The purpose of this funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is to support mechanistic clinical studies aimed at understanding the impact of arts-based approaches in palliative care for symptom management. This FOA is intended to support mechanistic clinical studies to provide an evidence base for the use of the arts in palliative care for symptom management. The objective is to understand the biological, physiological, neurological, psychological, and/or sociological mechanisms by which the arts exert their effects on symptom management during and throughout the palliative care continuum. The goal is for the research supported under this FOA to develop an evidence-base that could be used as a basis for the uptake of arts-based therapies in palliative care settings, among individuals across the lifespan, with a wide variety of serious chronic conditions and their accompanying symptoms. This FOA is not intended to determine efficacy or the comparative effectiveness of interventions, or to assess interventions designed to treat the underlying cause of a particular disease state.

The U.S. Embassy to the Republic of Moldova seeks a qualified implementing organization that will manage the "Television Content Fund" program, which aims to increase the quality and quantity of locally produced content on Moldovan television through co-productions that expand investment and employment in the media space. The implementing organization will ensure the achievement of the program activities and objectives described in this Notice of Funding Opportunity and will be responsible for overall logistical coordination, management of funds, and coordination with the U.S. Embassy's Public Affairs Section on the initiatives within this funding award. The National Institute for Health Care Management Foundation is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to improving the effectiveness, efficiency, and quality of the U.S. healthcare system. Since 2012, the foundation has made grants to support innovative health services research that advances knowledge in the areas of healthcare financing, delivery, management, and/or policy.

Successful networks will apply machine learning techniques and be able to optimize total spectrum usage by determining when, where and how to utilize its resources. The networks for all participant teams will be evaluated in a series of competitive, tournament-style events.

The Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor (DRL) announces the availability of funding for programs that support Internet freedom under the ?Governing Justly and Democratically? Foreign Assistance program objective. DRL invites organizations interested in potential funding to submit statements of interest (SOI) outlining program concepts and capacity to manage projects that will foster freedom of expression and the free flow of information on the Internet and other connection technologies around the world. This announcement does not constitute a formal Request for Proposals: DRL will invite select organizations that submit SOIs to expand on their ideas via full proposal separately. This solicitation is focused only on aspects of Internet freedom programming related to technology development.

The NPS is the lead federal agency assigned the principal responsibility for administering three federal historic documentation programs: the Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS), the Historic American Engineering Record (HAER), and the Historic American Landscape Survey (HALS). The documentation programs and their associated collections are among the largest and most heavily used in the Prints and Photographs Division of the Library of Congress. The collections document achievements in architecture, engineering, and design in the United States and its territories through a comprehensive range of building types and engineering technologies.These federal documentation programs have recorded America's built environment in multi-format surveys comprising more than 556,900 measured drawings, large-format photographs, and written histories for more than 38,600 historic structures and sites dating from Pre-Columbian times to the twentieth century. Through this agreement, the NPS , Intermountain Region, is seeking to work with a cooperator to expand the documentation of heritage sites to include: producing 3D high definition digital documentation of resources through LiDAR scanning, photogrammetry and other state-of-the-art technologies, including 3D point clouds, 3D visualizations, 3D models, 3D reconstructions, 3D virtual tours and 3D animated fly-throughs; training and employing students to produce 3D digital documentation; developing educational and interpretive content associated with the 3D digital images; creating virtual learning opportunities through web-based applications for research; archiving and managing digital data in accordance with National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) standards; providing free access to the data via a website designed for use by the general public; and hosting and maintaining that website.

The Public Affairs Section (PAS) of the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan is pleased to announce an open competition for assistance awards through this Request for Grant Proposals (RFGP). PAS Kabul invites all eligible organizations (See Section III. Eligibility Requirements on page 5) to submit a proposal for a grant with the U.S. Embassy to enhance the capacity of three Afghan government media relations offices so that their media outreach increases in number and effectiveness and the gap between the Afghan public and their governemnt is narrowed. The grant's goals will be achieved by strengthening the capacity of the ministries to engage in proactive, effective, and truthful outreach to both public and private media. The three ministry media relations offices that this grant will train and support are: the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Public Health, and the Independent Directorate for Local Governance. This will be a one-year project, focused on training and production of new stories for a variety of different media. The successful applicant must have strong experience in communications, media training and public relations, with a broad track record in developing and placing stories about the real and measurable progress in Afghanistan with the Afghan media. The successful proposal also must show strong project management experience that demonstrates success in meeting both short- and long-term milestones. Success for this project also will be measured by the number of media activities, the number and impact of stories placed in the media, and the ability of the ministry press office to sustain and carry on this work after the award performance period has been completed.

Sundance Institute deepened its commitment to Native artists by launching a new Native Producers Fellowship, which identifies emerging Native producers and supports their professional development and the development of their projects. Responding to a crucial need to cultivate more Native American producers who can manage production; oversee packaging, financing, and distribution; and engage with the marketplace; this Initiative aims to support the sustainability and longevity of Native artists throughout their careers. Native Producing Fellowships will follow the model of Sundance Institute's Creative Producing Fellowships. The Initiative will identify two Fellows and support their attendance at the Sundance Film Festival in January, where they will participate in the Festival's Native Forum, and at Sundance Institute's Creative Producing Summit in the summer. Native Producing Fellows will be considered for ongoing support and opportunities within the Institute's Creative Producing Initiative and Creative Producers Lab after they participate in the Native Program's Producers Fellowship.

We are currently seeking two graduate interns to work closely with editors and other staff of the Civil War Governors of Kentucky Digital Documentary Edition (CWG-K). Through this competitive internship opportunity, successful candidates will learn the basic principles of documentary editing; assist in the identification, data collection, scanning, processing and transcription of manuscript documents; and gain expertise in the use of the CWG-K project document control-and-editorial-management application. As time allows, interns may have the opportunity to learn, acquire and exercise additional skills associated with documentary editing. The overall goal of the internship is to provide a high-quality, supervised professional practicum that introduces second-year and advanced American history graduate students to the field of documentary editing in order to enhance their education and future employability. Participating graduate students will gain a broad understanding of the goals of, planning for and skills necessary to undertake large documentary-editing projects, as well as what is involved in their daily operations. The internship will consist of 250 hours over the course of 10 weeks. This is a temporary position, with stipend, based in Frankfort, Ky. Employee benefits are not available. Housing is not provided.

Together with University Advancement, the Office for the Advancement of Research & Scholarship (OARS) is rolling out an new crowdfunding platform called HawksNest. Through HawksNest, alumni, family, and friends of the university can directly support the research, scholarship, and service projects of Miami University students, faculty, and staff. The Public Affairs Section (PAS) of the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan is pleased to announce an open competition for eligible organizations to submit applications to carry out a program to create and broadcast via television and radio a multi-language drama series set a few years in Afghanistan's future showing what could be possible if the nation embraced peace and reconciliation. This cooperative agreement will support the development, production, and television and radio broadcast of a Pashto- and Dari-language television and radio drama series set in Afghanistan's future following successful peace and reconciliation. It will show possibilities for Afghans as individuals, as communities, and as a nation under a lasting peace and reconciliation process. The drama will attempt to foreshadow the positive results of a successful peace reconciliation process: harmony between ethnicities, safe travel between provinces, job creation, economic growth, foreign investment, construction in the capital and provinces, and Afghanistan's role as a peaceful and independent nation on the world stage. Through flashbacks, the drama will also show pivotal times in Afghanistan's history as well as difficult and complex past decisions made by individuals, communities, and the nation that resulted in this peaceful and prosperous future. The series should acknowledge that conflict between characters and groups will remain, but demonstrate how those conflicts are managed peacefully.

The Los Angeles-based ECMC Foundation is accepting proposals from organizations or institutions interested in developing and managing a program to help a diverse cohort of journalists expand their awareness about postsecondary career and technical education. This competitive grant process will lead to the identification of one organization selected to receive funding. Proposed concepts should include a plan to recruit and select program participants, offer innovative programming to build a community of practice among participants, and provide ongoing support for journalists seeking to advance in their career and/or refine their skills. This opportunity provides funding to an organization to manage the below-mentioned programs that will be executed by the Centre for Excellence in Journalism (CEJ) at the Institute for Business Administration (IBA) to support scholarships, internships and journalism training workshops. The Centre for Excellence in Journalism (CEJ) offers Pakistan's only professionally-focused master's degree in journalism. The 1.5-year long Masters of Science in Journalism (MSJ) allows students to immerse themselves in all forms of journalism - digital, audio and video - and gain practical experience in a newsroom under the guidance of experienced instructors. This award will provide opportunities for CEJ students, including eight-week internships at U.S. media outlets in the final semester of their MSJ degree; partial scholarships (50% of tuition) to attend CEJ; and (3) thematic training led by specialists and professional journalists from the U.S. who will be brought to CEJ to lead the workshops.

The American Film Showcase (AFS) is the State Department's flagship film exchange program and is implemented by the University of Southern California's (USC) School of Cinematic Arts. AFS supports the exchange of U.S. films, filmmakers, and film experts in support of foreign policy priorities. The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy South Africa announces an open competition for organizations to submit applications to support the 2020 American Film Showcase in South Africa, with a specific focus on the use of documentary film for conveying human rights messages. Concept notes are requested from organizations that have the necessary capacity, experience, and knowledge to support the implementation of the AFS 2020 program in South Africa. Logistical and financial management capabilities, linkages with existing film events and programs, and a focus on innovative approaches will be critical components of a successful proposal. AFS brings award-winning contemporary American documentaries, independent films, and filmmaking know-how to audiences around the world, offering a view of American society and culture as seen by independent filmmakers. Funded by a grant from the State Department's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) and produced by the USC School of Cinematic Arts (SCA), the Showcase highlights the value of film in fostering understanding and cooperation, dialogue, and debate. Indiana University's African Studies Program invites applications for a short-term residency to conduct research in IU's Libraries/African Studies Collections. Indiana University's African Studies Collection ranks among the top tier of such collections in the U.S. It comprises more than 150,000 volumes of monographs and over 700 serial subscriptions as well as materials in other formats (e.g. posters, slides, film/video, audio tapes, etc). The focus of the collection is on the humanities and social sciences, supporting a wide range of students and faculty in such departments as history, anthropology, fine arts, theatre & drama, literature, folklore, ethnomusicology, communication and culture, linguistics, religious studies, education, political science, business, economics, journalism, and applied health science. This residency is intended for faculty members at Historically Black Colleges and Universities, or at other U.S. colleges / universities with limited Africa collections, to conduct research in Indiana University's libraries and special collections in support of curriculum development or publications. The successful applicant will receive an award that covers domestic travel, accommodations in Bloomington, and a modest per diem for up to two weeks of research. The award will cover expenses up to a maximum of $2,000 and must be used before August 01, 2014. The recipient is expected to reside in Bloomington during the period of her/his award.
