The purpose of the Mentored Research Scientist Career Development Award in Tobacco Regulatory Research (K01) is to provide support and protected time (three, four, or five years) for an intensive, supervised career development experience in biomedical, behavioral, and social science research that will inform the development and evaluation of regulations on tobacco product manufacturing, distribution, and marketing and that will lead to research independence. Research projects must address the research priorities related to the regulatory authority of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Center for Tobacco Products (CTP) as mandated by the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act (FSPTCA), Public Law 111-31. The awards under this FOA will be administered by NIH using funds made available through the CTP and the FSPTCA (P.L. 111-31).

The SBIR program, as established by law, is intended to meet the following goals: stimulate technological innovation in the private sector; strengthen the role of small business in meeting Federal research or research and development (R/R&D) needs; increase the commercial application of Federally-supported research results; foster and encourage participation by socially and economically disadvantaged small business concerns and women-owned business concerns in the SBIR program; and improve the return on investment from Federally-funded research for economic and social benefits to the Nation.

he purpose of RHOP is to promote rural health care services outreach by expanding the delivery of opioid related health care services to rural communities. The program will reduce the morbidity and mortality related to opioid overdoses in rural communities through the development of broad community consortiums to prepare individuals with opioid-use disorder (OUD) to start treatment, implement care coordination practices to organize patient care activities,[1] and support individuals in recovery through the enhancement of behavioral counselling[2] and peer support activities.[3] This program will bring together health care providers (i.e. local health departments, hospitals, primary care practices, and substance abuse treatment providers) and entities such as social service and faith-based organizations, law enforcement, and other community-based groups to respond multifaceted to the opioid epidemic in a rural community. The consortium must include at least three (3) health care providers.

Undertake research activities that would entail implementing and evaluating community-based efforts to fight the opioid overdose epidemic; and Support and promote the partnership of law enforcement and public health agencies, whose collaboration is critical to reducing overdose and other harms of opioid (mis)use. This ongoing opioid overdose epidemic presents new challenges to public health and public safety officials, medical professionals, local communities, and other stakeholders invested in curbing rates of accidental death. Preparing regional and community leaders to respond effectively to the public health emergency that is today's opioid overdose crisis (and be prepared to take on that crisis as it evolves tomorrow) is essential for achieving the shared goal of preventing fatal overdose and saving lives. ONDCP expects to award one Federal grant under the Combating Opioid Overdose through Community-Level Intervention Initiative for a 1-year period, beginning approximately September 2017. The successful non-Federal entity (NFE) will conduct research activities that entail implementing and evaluating community-based efforts to fight the opioid overdose epidemic. These activities will be focused on the regions of the United States with some of the highest rates of fatal and non-fatal opioid-related overdoses and will work to coordinate the often decentralized state and local efforts to assess and respond to opioid-related overdoses.

CDC announces the availability of funds for a regional, nonprofit organization to strengthen the quality, performance and sustainability of the U.S.-Affiliated Pacific Islands’ governmental and nongovernmental components of the public health system through the provision of capacity-building assistance. This FOA provides funding for activities that increase capacity for public health leadership, workforce, public health systems and other components of the public health system. For the five year project period the applicant is expected to increase capacity in at least three of the six areas: 1) USAPI public health leadership knowledge and skills; 2) organizational infrastructures and processes; 3) public health workforce competencies; 4) development and implementation of public health laws and policies; 5) dissemination of evidence-based practices; and 6) establishment of monitoring and surveillance systems. Projects of limited cost or scope that use widely accepted approaches and methods within well-established fields are better suited for the R03 small grant activity code.

The Food and Drug Administration announces its intention to accept and consider a single source application for award to the World Health Organization (WHO) for the Building Research Capacity in Global Tobacco Product Regulation Program. The purpose of the Program is to identify, support, develop, conduct, and coordinate research efforts relating to tobacco control laws and rules in foreign countries that will directly inform and support FDA's exercise of its authority to regulate the manufacture, distribution, marketing and sale of tobacco products in the United States. The Program will advance FDA's Center for Tobacco Products' (CTP's) mission by utilizing the World Health Organization's (WHO) Member States' expertise and extensive international contacts in global tobacco control, as well as WHO's own programmatic expertise, to inform and support adequate manufacture, distribution and market regulations of tobacco products for the protection of public health in the United States. The Program will also provide a universal public benefit by creating opportunities for collaboration and research development globally, thereby resulting in better-informed and effective tobacco product regulation around the world, and increased knowledge in the public sphere regarding tobacco use and its harms globally.

The opioid epidemic has disrupted public safety and significantly increased the burden on state and local law enforcement, substance abuse treatment delivery systems, mental health systems, child welfare and foster care, and the juvenile justice and criminal justice systems. Through this program, OJJDP is helping states and communities develop a data-driven, coordinated response to opioid abuse-related challenges that impact youth and community safety. Funding under this program may be used to support programs and services to youth and families impacted by both opioids and other substance use disorders.

This project will complement ongoing INL justice sector reform programs that support government agencies, public officials, and NGOs to promote access to quality legal services and emphasize practical skills and critical thinking ability through practical and clinical training. The purpose of this project is to improve access to legal aid in the Philippines.

Achieving racial equity and justice in the United States requires a sustained, multipronged intersectional policy approach that addresses both the immediate social conditions leading to poor health outcomes, but also the long-standing structures fostering such conditions. The goal of the Policies for Action call for proposals is to build the evidence base about how national, state, and local policies can improve racial equity in health and well-being in the United States.
