The purpose of this announcement is to support research to rigorously evaluate the effectiveness of primary prevention strategies for the perpetration of sexual violence. The National Center for Injury Prevention and Control's research priorities for sexual violence prevention include evaluating the efficacy and effectiveness of programs, strategies, and policies across all levels of the social ecology to prevent and interrupt the development of sexual violence perpetration. In addition, the Center's research priorities highlight the need to identify effective programs, strategies, and policies that might prevent multiple types of violence concurrently, including sexual violence, intimate partner violence, and other forms of violence, and evaluating the economic efficiency of such programs, strategies and policies. Research funded under this announcement will address these priorities by rigorously evaluating programs, strategies, or policies for their impact on rates of sexual violence perpetration in one of two areas: (a) strategies that engage boys and men, or (b) structural, environmental, and/or policy interventions. Although the primary focus of research conducted with these funds should be on reducing sexual violence perpetration, the inclusion of other violence-related outcomes (e.g., dating/intimate partner violence) is also encouraged.

The Ecology and Evolution of Infectious Diseases program supports research on the ecological, evolutionary, and socio-ecological principles and processes that influence the transmission dynamics of infectious diseases. The central theme of submitted projects must be quantitative or computational understanding of pathogen transmission dynamics. The intent is discovery of principles of infectious disease transmission and testing mathematical or computational models that elucidate infectious disease systems. Projects should be broad, interdisciplinary efforts that go beyond the scope of typical studies. They should focus on the determinants and interactions of transmission among humans, non-human animals, and/or plants. This includes, for example, the spread of pathogens; the influence of environmental factors such as climate; the population dynamics and genetics of reservoir species or hosts; or the cultural, social, behavioral, and economic dimensions of disease transmission. Research may be on zoonotic, environmentally-borne, vector-borne, or enteric diseases of either terrestrial or freshwater systems and organisms, including diseases of animals and plants, at any scale from specific pathogens to inclusive environmental systems. Proposals for research on disease systems of public health concern to developing countries are strongly encouraged, as are disease systems of concern in agricultural systems. Investigators are encouraged to involve the public health research community, including for example, epidemiologists, physicians, veterinarians, food scientists, social scientists, entomologists, pathologists, virologists, or parasitologists with the goal of integrating knowledge across disciplines to enhance our ability to predict and control infectious diseases.

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to increase the identification of HIV positive persons through targeted HIV counseling and testing (HCT), assist in spouse and child disclosure of HIV status, and improve linkage and enrollment of all newly identified HIV clients to HIV/AIDS care, treatment and support services. Linkage is defined as the process of identifying new HIV positive clients through a bidirectional relationship among index case testing service outlets and HIV/AIDS care and treatment facilities, enrolling newly diagnosed HIV clients into appropriate chronic care by using referral slip and/or escorting of all newly identified HIV clients to appropriate care, treatment and support services. The care and support services will serve to improve clients ART adherence, and overall quality of life of persons living with HIV (PLHIV) and their families. This in turn will reduce new HIV infections, improve the quality of life for PLHIVs, and mitigate the negative health, psychological, social, and economic impacts of HIV infection in the long term.

The national response to the HIV epidemic in Swaziland has undergone dramatic changes and achieved major milestones up to date. As the epidemic matures in Swaziland and the country shifts from emergency response to scale-up of prevention interventions and universal access to care and treatment, the technical needs of the country are also evolving. Monitoring trends, identifying and addressing knowledge gaps, and strengthening the country's long-term capacity to use epidemiological tools to produce strategic information are now recognized as important priorities moving forward. Currently, Swaziland lacks coordinated infrastructure and capacity to formulate and address research questions that will inform programmatic and policy decisions. In addition, the country needs a robust epidemiological surveillance system for communicable and non-communicable disease to enable the detection of and efficient response to disease outbreaks. The overall goal of this FOA is to strengthen the capacity of Ministry of Health (MoH) and Ministry of Economic Planning and Development (MoEPD) to produce and effectively use epidemiological, surveillance, and research data in the Kingdom of Swaziland.

Nanomanufacturing is the production of useful nano-scale materials, structures, devices and systems in an economically viable manner. The NSF Nanomanufacturing Program supports fundamental research in novel methods and techniques for batch and continuous processes, top-down (addition/subtraction) and bottom-up (directed self-assembly) processes leading to the formation of complex heterogeneous nanosystems. The program supports basic research in nanostructure and process design principles, integration across length-scales, and system-level integration. The Program leverages advances in the understanding of nano-scale phenomena and processes (physical, chemical, electrical, thermal, mechanical and biological), nanomaterials discovery, novel nanostructure architectures, and new nanodevice and nanosystem concepts. It seeks to address quality, efficiency, scalability, reliability, safety and affordability issues that are relevant to manufacturing. OFDA's mandate is to save lives, alleviate human suffering, and reduce the social and economic impact of disasters worldwide. In order to achieve this goal, USAID/OFDA seeks to fund one or more organization(s) to support the development of local humanitarian organizations operating inside Syria and strengthen their ability to implement successful disaster response activities in conflict-affected communities. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites applications for specialized Alcohol Research Centers using the P50 mechanism. The overall purpose of the NIAAA Alcohol Research Center program is to provide leadership in conducting and fostering interdisciplinary, collaborative research on a wide variety of topics relevant to the Institutes mission. The purpose of this FOA is to fund a single coordinating center to formalize and centralize support for the HEAL Preventing Opioid Misuse and Opioid Use Disorder in Older Adolescents and Young Adults (ages 16-30) initiative administered by NIDA. The coordinating center will provide administrative and scientific, technical, and logistical support for coordination of common data elements, data harmonization, data sharing across projects; methodological and statistical support in the areas of study design, complex statistical analyses, economic analyses, implementation research; coordination of stakeholder and partnership engagement activities; developing and coordinating a HEAL prevention initiative publication and dissemination plan, providing logistical support for in-person meetings, conference calls, and webinars that include HEAL prevention grantees, funders and stakeholders. In addition, the coordinating center also will assist with collecting data on prevalence, incidence, risk and protective factors, and contextual factors in the identified populations and settings that will inform HEAL prevention research projects.

Systems for Action (S4A) is a national program of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation that aims to discover and apply new evidence about ways of aligning the delivery and financing systems for medical, social, and public health services that support a Culture of Health. This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) invites applications for the next five-year cycle of the National Health and Aging Trends Study (NHATS), the leading nationally representative, longitudinal data resource in the US for research on trends, dynamics, and disparities in late-life disability, and for studies of the social and economic consequences of late-life disability for individuals, families and society, including caregiving and end-of-life issues. NHATS has conducted seven annual rounds of data collection to date (an eighth round is in process) and is linked to the separately funded National Study of Caregiving (NSOC). The goals of the next cycle are to: 1) Continue the current structure and design elements of NHATS; 2) Permit studies of long-term trends in disability prevalence; 3) Enrich measurement of cognitive capacity; 4) Enhance measurement of physical activity and sedentary behavior; 5) Continue linkages with administrative records; and 6) Augment data dissemination and user support.

The Rita and Alex Hillman Foundation supports nurse-led healthcare innovation and research, with the goal of improving patient care in hospitals, clinics, homes, and communities. Nurses operate at the junction of public policy, medical science, systems-based healthcare delivery, and one-on-one patient care. Drawing on its knowledge of this unique and important role, the foundation believes it has valuable insights with respect to relevant modes of research and alternative models that can lead to more equitable, patient-centered health care. To that end, the foundation is accepting applications for its Hillman Emergent Innovation Serious Illness and End of Life Emergent Innovation program. The U.S. Ambassador's Special Self-Help (SSH) program is a grass-roots assistance program that allows U.S. embassies to respond quickly to local requests for small community-based development projects. This Self-Help fund provides small, short-term grants (one year) to community groups that are working to improve the basic economic and social conditions of their villages or communities. The fund provides grants for activities such as construction of classrooms, construction of ventilated pit latrines, construction of community centers and health clinics, boreholes for access to clean water, school equipment and supplies, medical equipment, solar heating and agricultural kits, among others listed in our guidelines.

The American Psychological Foundation is accepting applications for its Visionary Grants program. Through the program, grants of up to $20,000 will be awarded to programs that use psychology to address social problems in one of four priority areas: violence prevention; understanding the connection between behavior and health (e.g., wellness, diabetes, obesity); understanding and eliminating stigma and prejudice (e.g., race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, age, disability, and socioeconomic status); and applying psychology to vulnerable, at-risk populations (e.g., serious mental illness, returning military, those who are incarcerated, and the economically disadvantaged).
