The goal of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network-AACR Research Acceleration Network (RAN) Grants is to provide funding and strategic assistance to research projects with the potential to double survival for pancreatic cancer by the year 2020. These projects must be implemented by a multi-institutional team and include a clinical component with an endpoint relevant to improving the detection or treatment of pancreatic cancer. The RAN Grants will provide $1,000,000 in funding for direct and indirect expenses related to the research project over a one- to three-year time frame. In addition to the grant, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network will provide strategic project management support to help optimize project implementation and progress during the grant term.

The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network-AACR Innovative Grants represent a joint effort to promote and support innovative pancreatic cancer research. They aim to spur creative and cutting-edge ideas and approaches in pancreatic cancer research, including those successful in other areas of cancer that have justifiable promise for pancreatic cancer. The research proposed for funding may be basic, translational, clinical or epidemiological in nature and must have direct applicability and relevance to pancreatic cancer. These grants are available to full time, independent junior and senior investigators, including those with experience in other areas of cancer or biomedical/health science research who have promising ideas and approaches that can be applied to pancreatic cancer research.

The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network-AACR Fellowship represents a joint effort to encourage and support a postdoctoral or clinical research fellow who is in the first three years of his/her fellowship training (at the start of the grant term) to conduct pancreatic cancer research and establish a successful career path in this field. The research proposed for funding may be basic, translational, clinical or epidemiological in nature and must have direct applicability and relevance to pancreatic cancer.

Pathway to Leadership Grants support postdoctoral or clinical research fellows in the first five years of their fellowship at the start of the grant term, who have not already secured a full-time tenure track assistant professor position (or equivalent). The grants provide up to five years of support in two phases. The initial mentored phase lasts up to two years, during which time recipients are expected to work closely with their mentor(s) to develop their research. During the subsequent three years, recipients are expected to secure independent research positions.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is proud to announce our second year of The New Idea Award, a grant program designed to identify novel research strategies with high potential for high impact on the future of blood cancer treatment(s).  Specifically, this program supports academic researchers with innovative ideas for approaches that are substantially different from standard therapies and prognostic/diagnostic modalities, as well as ideas that may fundamentally change our understanding of blood cancer(s).  Successful awards will describe potentially paradigm-shifting ideas that take research in a substantially new direction, and thus preliminary data is not required.

The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network-AACR Innovative Grants represent a joint effort to promote and support innovative pancreatic cancer research. They aim to spur creative and cutting-edge ideas and approaches in pancreatic cancer research, including those successful in other areas of cancer that have justifiable promise for pancreatic cancer. The research proposed for funding may be basic, translational, clinical or epidemiological in nature and must have direct applicability and relevance to pancreatic cancer. These grants are available to full time, independent junior and senior investigators, including those with experience in other areas of cancer or biomedical/health science research who have promising ideas and approaches that can be applied to pancreatic cancer research. The grants provide $200,000 over two years ($100,000 per year) for direct and indirect expenses related to the research project, which may include salary and benefits of the grant recipient and any collaborators (grant recipient/collaborator salaries limited to 20 percent of the total grant), postdoctoral or clinical research fellows, graduate students and/or research assistants, research/laboratory supplies, equipment and publication charges for manuscripts that pertain directly to the funded project. It is anticipated that multiple Innovative Grants will be funded.

CAREER: The Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Program is a Foundation-wide activity that offers the National Science Foundation's most prestigious awards in support of junior faculty who exemplify the role of teacher-scholars through outstanding research, excellent education and the integration of education and research within the context of the mission of their organizations. Such activities should build a firm foundation for a lifetime of leadership in integrating education and research. NSF encourages submission of CAREER proposals from junior faculty members at all CAREER-eligible organizations and especially encourages women, members of underrepresented minority groups, and persons with disabilities to apply.

The purpose of this Dear Colleague Letter is to advise you about funding opportunities at the National Science Foundation for the research community to propose research projects or workshops that will gather data on the implementation and impacts of recent science policy initiatives including, but not limited to those noted earlier.  Especially encouraged are proposals that will: Develop new, or improve existing, analytical frameworks for evaluating the impacts of federal science policy initiatives; Explore different agencies' approaches to the implementation of particular policies to examine how variations in approach affect the achievement of intended policy outcomes; Collect case-study or quantitative data that facilitate identification of best practices in science and innovation policy implementation.

The Foundation encourages all theoretical and experimental research relevant to the study of cancer and the search for cancer causes, mechanisms, therapies and prevention. Candidates must apply for the fellowship under the guidance of a Sponsor-a scientist (tenured, tenure-track or equivalent position) capable of providing mentorship to the Fellow.  In addition to aiding in the planning, execution and supervision of the proposed research, the Sponsor's role is to foster the development of the Fellow's overall knowledge, technical and analytical skills, and capacity for scientific inquiry.  The Sponsor is also expected to assist the Fellow in attaining his/her career goals. Awards are made to institutions for the support of the Fellow under direct supervision of the Sponsor.  Candidates who have already accepted a postdoctoral research fellowship award are not eligible.

The AACR Team Science Award will recognize an outstanding interdisciplinary research team for its innovative and meritorious science that has advanced or likely will advance our fundamental knowledge of cancer or a team that has applied existing knowledge to advance the detection, diagnosis, prevention or treatment of cancer.

The AACR-Minorities in Cancer Research Jane Cooke Wright Lectureship was first presented in 2006. The lectureship is intended to give recognition to an outstanding scientist who has made meritorious contributions to the field of cancer research and who has, through leadership or by example, furthered the advancement of minority investigators in cancer research.

Through the generous contribution of an anonymous donor, the AACR established this award in 1979 to give recognition to a young investigator on the basis of meritorious achievement in cancer research. In accordance with the wishes of the donor, the recipient must be no more than 40 years of age by the time the award is received. The recipient of the 34th Annual AACR Award for Outstanding Achievement in Cancer Research will receive an honorarium of $5,000, presented a 50-minute lecture, and be given full support for the winner and a guest to attend the AACR Annual Meeting 2014, in San Diego, CA, USA (April 5-9, 2014.)

The prestigious Pezcoller Foundation-AACR International Award for Cancer Research was established in 1997 to annually recognize a scientist of international renown: who has made a major scientific discovery in basic cancer research OR who has made significant contributions to translational cancer research; who continues to be active in cancer research and has a record of recent, noteworthy publications; and whose ongoing work holds promise for continued substantive contributions to progress in the field of cancer.

This lectureship will recognize an individual scientist whose novel and significant work has had or may have a far-reaching impact on the detection, diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of cancer, and who embodies the dedication of the Princess to multinational collaborations. The recipient of the Eight Annual Lectureship will present a major, 50-minute lecture during the AACR Annual Meeting 2014 in San Diego, CA, USA (April 5-9, 2014). The lecturer will receive an unrestricted cash award of US $10,000, support for the winner and a guest to attend the AACR Annual Meeting, and a commemorative item serving as tangible witness to the singular honor of his/her selection.

The Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program supports active research participation by undergraduate students in any of the areas of research funded by the National Science Foundation. REU projects involve students in meaningful ways in ongoing research programs or in research projects specifically designed for the REU program. This solicitation features two mechanisms for support of student research: (1) REU Sites are based on independent proposals to initiate and conduct projects that engage a number of students in research. REU Sites may be based in a single discipline or academic department or may offer interdisciplinary or multi-department research opportunities with a coherent intellectual theme. Proposals with an international dimension are welcome. (2) REU Supplements may be included as a component of proposals for new or renewal NSF grants or cooperative agreements or may be requested for ongoing NSF-funded research projects.

The American Association for Cancer Research established this award in 2007 in honor of Margaret Foti, Ph.D., M.D. (h.c.), for her exemplary leadership of the AACR as its chief executive officer; for her sustained, outstanding work in fostering research, scholarly communications, education and training, science policy and public education; and for her extraordinary dedication and contributions to the conquest of cancer. This award recognizes a true champion of cancer research, an individual who embodies the sustained commitment of Margaret Foti to the prevention and cure of cancer. The award is given to an individual whose leadership and extraordinary achievements in cancer research or in support of cancer research have made a major impact on the field. Such achievements include contributions to the acceleration of progress in cancer research, raising national or international awareness of cancer research, or other demonstrations of a sustained commitment to the conquest of cancer.

The AACR and Eli Lilly and Company established this award in 1961 to honor Dr. G.H.A. Clowes, who was a founding member of the AACR and a research director of Eli Lilly. The Clowes Award recognizes an individual with outstanding recent accomplishments in basic cancer research. The recipient of the 54th Annual AACR G.H.A. Clowes Memorial Award will receive a $10,000 honorarium, give a 50-minute lecture during the AACR Annual Meeting 2014 in San Diego, CA, USA (April 5-9, 2014), and will be given support for the winner and a spouse to attend the Annual Meeting. The winner will also speak at the Eli Lilly and Company headquarters in Indianapolis, Indiana, at the invitation of the company later in 2014.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) encourages Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant applications from small business concerns (SBCs) proposing research for commercial development of novel cancer-relevant technologies. The proposed research projects are expected to focus on the development of highly-innovative technologies that improve molecular and/or cellular analysis of cancer with a significant likelihood for either overcoming persistent challenges or obstacles or opening entirely new fields for cancer research or clinical care. Applications should specify milestones relevant to both the development and commercialization of these technologies. This FOA complements the goals of the NCI's Innovative Molecular Analysis Technologies (IMAT) program by facilitating the path towards technology commercialization. Prior participation in the IMAT Program is not required for eligibility for this FOA. Applications are expected to indicate the significant attributes and advantages of the proposed technology over currently available technologies and conventional approaches.

The NIH Directors New Innovator (DP2) Award initiative supports a small number of early stage investigators of exceptional creativity who propose bold and highly innovative new research approaches that have the potential to produce a major impact on broad, important problems in biomedical and behavioral research. The New Innovator Award initiative complements ongoing efforts by NIH and its Institutes and Centers to fund early stage investigators through R01 grants, which continue to be the major sources of NIH support for early stage investigators. The NIH Directors New Innovator Award initiative is a component of the High Risk - High Reward Research Program of the NIH Common Fund.

The AAAS Early Career Award for Public Engagement with Science, established in 2010, recognizes early-career scientists and engineers who demonstrate excellence in their contribution to public engagement with science activities. A monetary prize of $5,000, a commemorative plaque, complimentary registration to the AAAS Annual Meeting, and reimbursement for reasonable hotel and travel expenses to attend the AAAS Annual Meeting to receive the prize are given to the recipient. Nominee must be an early-career scientist or engineer in academia, government or industry actively conducting research in any scientific discipline (including social sciences and medicine).  "Early career" is defined as an individual who has been in his/her current field for less than seven years and pre-tenure or job equivalent. Post-doctoral students are eligible for this award. Nominee will have demonstrated excellence in his/her contribution to public engagement with science activities, with a focus on interactive dialogue between the individual and a non-scientific, public audience(s). Types of public engagement activities might include: informal science education, public outreach, public policy, and/or science communication activities, such as mass media, public dialogue, radio, TV and film, science café, science exhibit, science fair, and social and online media.
