This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) encourages research on how the healthcare delivery system enhances or inhibits the effectiveness of a provider's recommendation of the adolescent human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine. Characteristics of the provider, parent/patient, and clinical setting, can all affect whether a provider makes a recommendation, and whether that recommendation results in uptake of the HPV vaccine. This research requires expertise in cancer prevention, adult and childhood behavior, immunization promotion, and healthcare delivery.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) encourages collaborative applications that will contribute to the identification and characterization of patients at risk of developing cancer treatment-related cardiotoxicity. The primary intent is to mitigate cardiovascular dysfunction while optimizing cancer outcomes. To accomplish this, methods that evaluate cardiac risk prior to treatment and integrate evidence-based cancer treatment regimens with screening, diagnostic, and/or management strategies are sought. Research applications should focus on mitigation/management of adverse effects associated with anti-cancer treatments including: cytotoxic chemotherapies, targeted agents, immunomodulatory therapies and radiation (that occur during cancer treatment and/or long-term survivorship) as defined by cardiac specific common terminology criteria for adverse events (CTCAE).

The McGovern Institute for Brain Research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology was established in 2000 by Patrick J. McGovern and Lore Harp McGovern, with the goal of improving human welfare, communication, and understanding through their support for neuroscience research. The institute has announced a call for nominations for its twelfth annual Edward M. Scolnick Prize in Neuroscience. Now in its fifteenth year, the Scolnick Prize is designed to recognize outstanding advances in the field of neuroscience. The prize, which is endowed through a gift from Merck to the McGovern Institute, consists of a $150,000 award, plus an inscribed gift. In addition, the recipient will present a public lecture at the McGovern Institute in spring 2018. A gala dinner for the recipient and invited guests follows the prize lecture. Candidates for the award must be nominated by individuals affiliated with universities, hospitals, medicals schools, or research institutes, with a background in neuroscience. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is associated with the Beau Biden Cancer MoonshotSM Initiative that is intended to accelerate cancer research. The purpose of this FOA is to establish Centers of collaborating investigators with the goal of identifying and advancing research opportunities for translating immunotherapy concepts for children and adolescents with cancer toward clinical applications. Specifically, this FOA targets the following area designated as a scientific priority by the Blue Ribbon Panel (BRP): Recommendation (B) that calls for the establishment of a pediatric immunotherapy translational science network. The network was envisioned by the BRP as focusing on identifying new targets for immunotherapies, developing new pediatric immunotherapy treatment approaches (e.g., cancer vaccines, cellular therapy, combinations of immunotherapy agents, and others), and defining the biological mechanisms by which pediatric tumors evade the immune system. The Pediatric Immunotherapy Discovery and Development Network (PI-DDN) Centers will address and implement these BRP recommendations.

ENTELLIGENCE, in partnership with Actelion Pharmaceuticals US, supports basic science, translational, and clinical research in the field of cardiopulmonary medicine. The program provides opportunities for individual young investigators to promote quality medical care and enhance patients' lives by supporting research in pulmonary hypertension. To that end, ENTELLIGENCE is accepting applications for its thirteenth annual Young Investigator grant program. Established in 2005, the program provides opportunities for promising young investigators to promote quality medical care and enhance patients' lives by supporting research (basic science, clinical, or translational) in the area of pulmonary hypertension specifically related to expanding knowledge of pulmonary vascular pathobiology pathways. In 2018, the program will award a one-year grant of up to $100,000 to fund a mentored project.

The purpose of the funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is to encourage research on the etiology of depressive symptoms that occur in the context of a sudden onset acute illness. Although it is known that depressive symptoms may linger and affect functional recovery long after physical recovery from an acute insult, there is a gap in knowledge about the pathobiology that may underlie these incident depressive symptoms. A greater understanding of the etiological factors that contribute to and/or mitigate a trajectory of depressive symptoms may inform a personalized, holistic approach to managing recovery from acute illness.

Grants are made by the Board of Trustees of Ohio Cancer Research taking into account studies and recommendations of the Scientific Review Committee. Grants are available to investigators in either nonprofit or for-profit institutions, offices or clinics within the State of Ohio. However, grants to investigators working for profit-making organizations may not include funds for capital equipment. Grants are made with the stipulation of their use by a particular individual or group who are known as the principal investigator in support of a specific program of research under his/her/their direction. Full professors or their equivalent are not eligible. Only tenure track, junior faculty or equivalent scientific staffs are generally considered as appropriate. Postdoctoral fellows, Research, research assistants, and graduate students are ineligible to apply as P.I.'s, but they may be included as support staff. The P.I. must show evidence of independence. Applicants must be within six years of their first independent research or faculty appointment. Well established investigators should not submit projects related to their current area of research. Investigators previously funded by Ohio Cancer Research must provide justification that this application is significantly different from the previously funded project. Information regarding the results of the previously funded proposal and the P.I.'s success in obtaining further national funding must also be provided. Grants awarded by Ohio Cancer Research are made to support research activities broadly related to cancer and leukemia. Certain types of projects are not recommended for support. Among these are purely clinical work of a non-research nature and requests for the sole purpose of equipping a laboratory.

Career Development Award supports early-career, independent investigators to conduct impactful research under the mentorship of an experienced lung cancer researcher as an opportunity to obtain the funding, mentoring, and experience necessary for productive, independent careers at the forefront of lung cancer research. This award is intended to support impactful research projects with an emphasis on discovery. Submissions from and partnerships with investigators at military treatment facilities, military labs, and Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) medical centers and research laboratories are strongly encouraged.Preliminary data are not required. Founded in 1996, the Marsha Rivkin Center for Ovarian Cancer Research provides funding for multiple efforts, including funding for innovative research pilot studies, scholar grants to up-and-coming investigators to encourage careers in ovarian cancer research, conducting public early detection screening for ovarian cancer, and producing nationally and internationally attended research symposia on ovarian cancer. To that end, the center is accepting applications for pilot study projects in ovarian cancer research. Through the center's Pilot Study Program, approximately ten one-year $75,000 grants will be awarded to support investigator-initiated projects in all areas of ovarian cancer research. Projects designed to analyze data from already funded clinical trials also will be considered. Priority will be given to proposals that are innovative, multidisciplinary, likely to lead to submission of grant applications for independently funded investigations, and have translational research potential.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites grant applications for the Outstanding Investigator Award (R35) in any area of cancer research. The objective of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Outstanding Investigator Award (OIA) is to provide long-term support to accomplished investigators with outstanding records of cancer research productivity who propose to conduct exceptional research. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) encourages applications that develop and test multilevel interventions to improve follow-up to abnormal screening tests for breast, cervical, colorectal, or lung cancers. Improving follow-up to abnormal screening tests is dependent on factors at the patient, provider, clinical team, clinic, healthcare institution, or community setting levels. Appropriate applications for this FOA should propose to intervene at two or more levels, and measure outcomes at three or more levels, while accounting for interactions that occur between and across levels.

The purpose of the NLA Junior Faculty Research is to encourage scholarly advancement of Junior Faculty in the pursuit of a career related to hyperlipidemia and other lipid disorders in humans. The NLA will fund eligible institutions to provide $70,000 per year in salary support for those actively involved in clinical and/or basic science that provides promise of developing new information in fields of study that could advance the diagnosis and management of lipid disorders such as biochemistry, physiology, or genetics as well as interventions that improve therapy. The institutions eligible shall be nonprofit and offer an environment that would logically support a young faculty member with appropriate equipment, space and experienced faculty for proposed studies. The proposal will identify a specific candidate with training and strong signs of early success in an appropriate area of research and with a plan for developing appropriate experiments or clinical studies. To be eligible, an applicant is expected to hold or be eligible for a doctoral level degree (PhD, PharmD or MD) prior to the date of the scheduled award. There must be a record of accomplishment in a relevant research area as manifest by publications or a PhD thesis of high quality. The application for the Basic Science Award may focus on any aspect of lipid metabolism that has relevance to human disease. This may include experiments at the laboratory bench involving structural chemistry, biochemistry, physiology or genetics.

The NIH Research Education Program (R25) supports research education activities in the mission areas of the NIH. The over-arching goal of this NCI R25 program is to support educational activities that complement and/or enhance the training of a workforce to meet the nation's biomedical, behavioral and clinical research needs. To accomplish the stated over-arching goal, this FOA will support creative educational activities with a primary focus on Curriculum or Methods Development. Applications are encouraged that propose innovative, state-of-the-art programs that address the cause, diagnosis, prevention, or treatment of cancer, rehabilitation from cancer, or the continuing care of cancer patients and the families of cancer patients.

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to: identify new, information technology (IT)-enabled delivery models that support systematic screening and treatment of depression in cancer patients; test the feasibility of implementing these new delivery models in a variety of oncology practice settings, especially those serving under-served populations; and test the usability and potential effectiveness of the IT-specific components of these new delivery models. The purpose of the Academic Research Enhancement Award (AREA) program is to stimulate research in educational institutions that provide baccalaureate or advanced degrees for a significant number of the Nation's research scientists, but that have not been major recipients of NIH support. AREA grants create opportunities for scientists and institutions otherwise unlikely to participate extensively in NIH research programs to contribute to the Nation's biomedical and behavioral research effort. AREA grants are intended to support small-scale research projects proposed by faculty members of eligible, domestic institutions, to expose undergraduate and/or graduate students to meritorious research projects, and to strengthen the research environment of the applicant institution.
