The purpose of the Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to support pilot research projects using a "Traceback" approach to genetic testing women with a personal or family history of ovarian cancer and reaching out to family members to identify unaffected individuals at increased risk for cancer in different clinical contexts and communities, including racially/ethnically diverse populations.

Founded in 1999 by a group of forty-one survivors and family members impacted by colorectal cancer, the Colorectal Cancer Alliance is a network of eight hundred thousand patients, family members, caregivers, and survivors dedicated to the prevention of colorectal cancer. In support of that mission, the alliance is accepting applications to its Chris4Life Research Program. Through the program, the alliance will award a single grant of $150,000 over two years to an innovative project with substantial potential to advance the prevention of colorectal cancer. The focus of eligible projects may include but are not limited to high-risk populations, specific risk factors, effective screening and early diagnosis, and biomarkers. Funds may support research-related expenses, including supplies, the purchase of software and equipment, and publication directly related to the project. Research scientists working at any academic or nonprofit institution are eligible to apply; however, all research must be conducted in the United States. The DeGregorio Family Foundation for Gastric and Esophageal Cancer seeks to promote and facilitate collaborative research on the pathogenesis, early diagnosis, and treatment of upper gastrointestinal malignancies. To that end, the foundation has issued a Request for Proposals for its ninth annual funding opportunity for gastroesophageal malignancies. Through the RFP, grants of up to $250,000 will be awarded in support of innovative, high-quality translational and bench research that improves the understanding of the biology of these diseases, identification of potential novel therapeutic targets, and/or the development and evaluation of novel biomarkers for early diagnosis and treatment. Pre-clinical research, basic mechanistic studies, genomic/epigenomic studies, and epidemiologic studies are eligible for support.

This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) seeks to expand knowledge and increase the evidence base for palliative care (PC) in advanced rare diseases, including rare cancers, and to improve physical and psychosocial well-being and quality of life among seriously ill individuals and their family caregivers.

OCRFA's Woman to Woman is a peer-to-peer support program for women with gynecologic cancers. The programs pairs gynecologic cancer patients with trained survivor volunteers who provide one-on-one emotional support and mentoring to women when they need it most. From the moment of diagnosis through the end of treatment, Woman to Woman survivor volunteers have helped hundreds of women and their families cope with gynecologic cancer.

The PRCRP Idea Award with Special Focus mechanism is intended to support innovative, untested, high-risk/potentially high-reward concepts, theories, paradigms, and/or methods in cancer research that are directly relevant to service members, their families, and other military beneficiaries. The proposed research project should include a well-formulated, testable hypothesis based on strong scientific rationale and study design. The Idea Award with Special Focus is not intended to support a logical progression of an already established research project. The proposed research project should be novel and innovative. Innovative research may introduce a new paradigm, challenge existing paradigms, look at existing problems from new perspectives, or exhibit other uniquely creative qualities. Research that is an incremental advance upon published data is not considered innovative and will not be considered for funding under this award mechanism. Inclusion of preliminary data is discouraged. The outcome of research supported by this award should be the generation of robust preliminary data that can be used as a foundation for future research projects to understand the mechanisms of initiation, or progression of cancer. This award is not intended to support ongoing research in the applicant's laboratory; therefore, inclusion of preliminary data other than serendipitous findings or in very small numbers is not consistent with the exploratory nature of this award.

The New Scholars Program supports projects to help early- to mid-career women scientists balance family responsibilities with demanding academic careers. New Scholars seeks to actively address the attrition rate of talented women scientists caused by work-life balance issues.

The Career Development Award supports early-career, independent investigators to conduct impactful research under the mentorship of an experienced lung cancer researcher as an opportunity to obtain the funding, mentoring, and experience necessary for productive, independent careers at the forefront of lung cancer research. This award is intended to support impactful research projects with an emphasis on discovery. Submissions from and partnerships with investigators at military treatment facilities, military labs, and Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) medical centers and research laboratories are strongly encouraged. Key elements of this award are as follows: * Principal Investigator (PI): PIs must be research- or physician-scientists at an early stage of their independent research careers. PIs must be within 5 years of their first faculty appointment (or equivalent), and exhibit a strong desire to pursue a career in lung cancer research. * Mentorship: The mentor must be an experienced lung cancer researcher as demonstrated by a strong record of funding and publications in lung cancer research. In addition, the mentor must demonstrate a commitment to developing the PI's career in lung cancer research. * Career Development: A Career Development Plan is required and should be prepared with appropriate guidance from the mentor. A clearly articulated strategy for acquiring the necessary skills, competence, and expertise to have a career at the forefront of lung cancer research should be included. The plan should outline how the PI will gain experience and training in lung cancer research. Because career development is the focus of this award, the PI's institution must demonstrate a commitment to the PI through a minimum of 40% protected time for the proposed research, though more protected time is highly desirable. * Impact: Research that has high potential impact may lead to major advancements and significantly accelerate progress toward eradicating death

The NIH Research Education Program (R25) supports research education activities in the mission areas of the NIH.The over-arching goal of this NCI R25 program is to support educational activities that complement and/or enhance the training of a workforce to meet the nation's biomedical, behavioral and clinical research needs. To accomplish the stated over-arching goal, this FOA will support creative educational activities with a primary focus on Courses for Skills Development. Applications are encouraged that propose innovative, state-of-the-art programs that address the cause, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of cancer, rehabilitation from cancer, and the continuing care of cancer patients and the families of cancer patients, in accordance with the overall mission of the NCI.

Together with University Advancement, the Office for the Advancement of Research & Scholarship (OARS) is rolling out an new crowdfunding platform called HawksNest. Through HawksNest, alumni, family, and friends of the university can directly support the research, scholarship, and service projects of Miami University students, faculty, and staff. This is how HawksNest works: * Any Miami University student, faculty, or staff member may complete an online application to have a project considered for funding. * An internal review team assesses applications and posts approved projects on HawksNest for a maximum of 45 days. * Potential donors visit the site to learn about and pledge funds to approved projects. * Once a funding goal has been met, the project can begin! * Project managers use the site to keep donors up-to-date with information on the project's progress.

The proposed program's purpose is to increase the availability of supportive services for young breast cancer survivors (YBCS), young women with metastatic breast cancer (mBC), and their caregivers and families by supporting organizations and entities that serve this population. The awardees will address strategies relevant to the target audience. These include: the establishment of a network of survivors and caregivers to facilitate policy, system, and environmental change interventions that increases access to lifestyle programs, clinical preventive services, and cancer care among survivors; development and implementation of innovative technological educational opportunities for health care providers on topics relevant to the delivery of appropriate treatment and care of YBCS and mBC; and utilization of patient navigation and community health worker program strategies to reach underserved populations to enhance their access to and utilization of YBCS services and programs. To this end, activities funded by this NOFO, are intended to support organizations in closing the disparity gap needed to support young breast cancer survivors. Specifically, organizations will implement strategies that aim to reduce disparities observed in survival and quality of life due to race, ethnicity, or other social determinants of health. This NOFO will also support organizations in providing support services/programs to YBCS and mBC; and provide resources for health care providers in caring for all YBCS and mBC regardless of race, ethnicity, age, or sexual orientation during the period of performance of 09/30/2019-09/22/2024.

The CDC, Division of Cancer Prevention and Control (DCPC) announces the availability of Fiscal Year 2019 funds to implement DP19-1905, The CDC Cancer Genomics Program: Translating Research into Public Health Practice. This program addresses the utilization of cancer genetic services as a strategy for cancer prevention and control. The primary outcomes of this NOFO are to increase screening of cancer family history and to increase the use of genetic counseling and testing for Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer (HBOC) and Lynch Syndrome (LS) among individuals meeting recommendations for referral. This funding opportunity supports the implementation and evaluation of public health activities within four core strategies to build the evidence base and disseminate best practices. These priorities will be accomplished by funding up to 5 awardees to develop, implement, and evaluate state-level programs in cancer genomics. Funding will support applicants that demonstrate: Appropriate experience with surveillance systems, partners and similar work in cancer genomics Appropriate organizational capacity to perform, implement, and evaluate activities and strategies An approach that is consistent with the strategies and outcomes described in the NOFO An ability to collect data towards key performance measures and outcomes Innovative methods and approaches to program and strategy implementation

The FY19 PRCRP Idea Award with Special Focus supports innovative, untested, high-risk/ potentially high-reward concepts, theories, paradigms, and/or methods in cancer research that are relevant to active duty Service members, Veterans, other military beneficiaries, and the American public. The "Special Focus" of this award mechanism is on exposures, conditions, or circumstances that are unique to the military, disproportionately represented in a military beneficiary population, or may affect force readiness. Cancers or circumstances with cancer risk that may affect the Service members' support system (military families) are of special importance for total mission readiness. The advancement of knowledge in cancer research, patient care, and/or treatment options in the Military Health System (MHS) is critical to active duty Service members, Veterans, other military beneficiaries, and the American public. Relevance to military health should be articulated with respect to the overall MHS, the FY19 PRCRP Military Health Focus Areas in Section II.A.2, and the mission of the DHP and the FY19 PRCRP.

To that end, one-year grants of up to $50,000 will be awarded to new and established investigators for laboratory, translational, or clinical research related to acute leukemia. Renewal of initial research support may be considered for one or more additional years based on productivity.

The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) is seeking a Data Coordinating Center (DCC) for biospecimen and consent related activities for the Sudden Death in the Young (SDY) Case Registry. SDY is a tragic event with longstanding impact on families and communities. Although the causes of SDY are myriad, sudden unexpected infant death (SUID), sudden cardiac death and sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP) are three examples that have inspired public health efforts at prevention. Yet fundamental gaps in knowledge about incidence, mechanisms, and risk factors for SDY limit the identification of effective prevention efforts. This acquisition is for one contract for a SDY Data Coordinating Center with subcontracts and/or other mechanisms as needed to accomplish all necessary work described in the Statement of Work.

The Lung Cancer Research Foundation's pilot grant program provides funding for innovative research focused on the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and cure of lung cancer. Grants of up to $150,000 over two years will be awarded in support of projects in one or more of the following areas of lung cancer research: lung cancer biology; prevention and screening for early detection; identification of new biomarkers and the development of targeted therapies; development of more effective and less toxic therapies; supportive measures for people with lung cancer and their families; and quality of care and outcomes research.
