The TBDRP's vision is to prevent the occurrence, better diagnose, and resolve or minimize the impact of Lyme disease and other tick-borne illnesses, with emphasis on burden of disease. The TBDRP's mission is to support research to understand the pathogenesis of Lyme disease and other tick-borne illnesses and to deliver innovative solutions to prevent, better diagnose, and treat their manifestations for the benefit of military Service members and the American public.

The mission of the MHRP is to protect military personnel from HIV and other emerging infectious diseases and improve global health by conducting research to develop vaccines, prevent new infections, and find cures. In support, the goals of the MHRP are as follows: · Build on RV144 (Vaccination with ALVAC and AIDSVAX to prevent HIV-1 infection in Thailand. N Engl J Med 2009 361(23):2209-2220) and execute an integrated vaccine development program. · Lead the field in acute infection and cure research. · Integrate MHRP's continuum of discovery, preclinical, and clinical research. · Perform clinical and population health research. · Strengthen external partnerships and enhance collaboration across the DoD. · Leverage MHRP's international capacity for research, clinical development, prevention, care, and treatment to advance national security and global health objectives. · Generate and translate diagnostic and knowledge products to inform health policy and reduce the burden of infectious diseases in the military. · Support professional development of military and civilian infectious disease research staff in order to build the next generation of scientific leaders.

Objectives: The grant groundbreaking or unconventional methodologies, whose risky outlook is justified by the possibility of a major breakthrough. Basic Science: If a proposal is rooted in basic science, applicants are encouraged to collaborate with investigators who can further the potential for translation of ideas and findings. Translational Science: If a proposal is translational by nature, applicants are encouraged to identify industry and clinical partners to assist in propelling their research toward clinical study. Clinical Science: For those looking to submit a clinical research proposal, applicants are encouraged to collaborate with individuals who could facilitate potential clinical implementation.

Applications to the Fiscal Year 2017 (FY17) Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Research Program (DMDRP) are being solicited for the Defense Health Agency (DHA) J9, Research and Development Directorate, by the U.S. Army Medical Research Acquisition Activity (USAMRAA) using delegated authority provided by United States Code, Title 10, Section 2358 (10 USC 2358). As directed by the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs (OASD[HA]), the DHA manages the Defense Health Program (DHP) Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation (RDT&E) appropriation. The execution management agent for this Program Announcement is the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP). The DMDRP was initiated in 2011 to provide support for research of exceptional scientific merit and to promote the understanding, diagnosis, and treatment of Duchenne. Appropriations for the DMDRP from FY11 through FY16 totaled $20 million (M). The FY17 appropriation is $3.2M.

The involvement of small businesses in translational aging research could substantially hasten the pace at which scientific advances are transformed into commercial products to improve or maintain the health and functional independence of older adults. Therefore, this funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is intended to encourage a greater involvement by small businesses through the SBIR mechanism in transforming scientific advances in aging research into novel devices, products, health care practices and programs that will benefit the lives of older adults. For the purposes of this FOA, T1 translational research on aging is defined as the application of basic and clinical biomedical or basic behavioral and social research findings towards the development of new strategies for prevention and treatment of age-related pathologies. T1 translational research approaches could include the development of new research tools or improving existing technologies to diagnose, prevent or treat age-related conditions, functional decline and disability.

TTSA supports hypothesis-driven translational studies. These studies should be associated with an ongoing or completed clinical trial and/or annotated biorepositories and focused on research for the next-phase clinical trial or future clinical application. The TTSA is intended to support advanced translational studies that have the potential for near-term outcomes that are based on results from clinical investigations. While funding for clinical trials is allowed, the TTSA is intended to fund correlative clinical research studies and not only a clinical trial. Research projects funded by the TTSA should address critical knowledge gaps in clinical outcomes, validate key research results, expand upon potentially transformative results, or investigate novel findings based on results from clinical research.

The purpose of this individual postdoctoral research training fellowship is to enhance the research training of promising postdoctoral candidates who have the potential to become productive, independent investigators in health services research, with a research interest in areas and priorities relevant to the mission of AHRQ.

The FY17 HRRP TRA mechanism is being offered in this first year of the program to support preclinical translational research that will accelerate the movement of promising initiatives relevant to hearing restoration into clinical applications. The ultimate goal of translational research is to move an observation forward into clinical application and accelerate the clinical introduction of healthcare products, technologies, or practice guidelines. Observations that drive a research idea may be derived from a laboratory discovery, population-based studies, or a clinician's first-hand knowledge of patients and anecdotal data. However, Principal Investigators (PIs) should not view translational research as a one-way continuum from bench to bedside. The research plan should involve a reciprocal flow of ideas and information between basic and clinical science.

The NIH Research Education Program (R25) supports research education activities in the mission areas of the NIH. The over-arching goal of this NIGMS R25 program is to support educational activities that complement and/or enhance the training of a workforce to meet the nation's biomedical, behavioral and clinical research needs. The intent of the FY19 PRARP CSRA is to support innovative or novel efforts to generate research resources, tools, or research efforts for researchers and/or practitioners in health sciences related to the PRARP's mission (see Section II.A, Program Description). The proposed work should innovatively challenge existing research paradigms or exhibit high levels of creativity within the contexts of the PRARP's mission and vision. The research innovations for the FY19 PRARP CSRA are expected to benefit the military, Veteran, and civilian communities. FY19 PRARP CSRA applications should be Innovation- and Impact-based.

Applications must articulate how results will lead to a clinical impact for Veterans with GWI even if a clinical impact is not an immediate outcome. All applications must focus on features of GWI and Veterans of the 1990-1991 Gulf War affected by GWI. It is the responsibility of the Principal Investigator (PI) to clearly and explicitly articulate the project's potential impact on GWI. The types of activities supported include, but are not limited to, expansion of limited data on candidate markers, mechanistic targets; therapeutics and interventions; validation and advanced research on druggable mechanistic targets, identification and development of leading compounds, and collection of preclinical data for repurposing an existing approved drug or for new Investigational New Drug (IND) application submissions to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The FY19 VRP IIRA is intended to support studies that will yield highly impactful discoveries or major advancements in the research and/or patient care of eye injury and/or visual dysfunction as related to military-relevant trauma. Research projects may focus on any phase of research (e.g., basic, translational, applied, clinical, observational), excluding clinical trials. The research idea or solution should be innovative or novel, or a significant advancement over existing ideas or solutions, as applicable.
