Improving Detection and Management of Glaucoma and Other Eye Diseases Among High Risk P... - 0 views

    The purpose of this notice of funding opportunity is to identify and implement innovative strategies to better engage, detect, and manage glaucoma and other eye diseases among vulnerable populations, in community-based settings, for replication and scaling in the US. This NOFO will be accomplished with two components; Component A: Community-Based Interventions with Vulnerable Populations and Component B: Coordinating Center to provide logistics and support to the research study. Glaucoma is the leading cause of irreversible blindness among African Americans and the second leading cause of blindness worldwide. An estimated 2.2 to 2.7 million people in the United States have the disease. Due to its asymptomatic nature, half of people with glaucoma are unaware of their condition, increasing the severity of the disease. However, once detected, appropriate treatment and management can slow glaucoma progression and preserve the remaining vision, but cannot restore lost vision. Given the low general population prevalence of glaucoma, broad general population screening appears not to be cost-effective, and the marginal results from glaucoma screenings in high-risk population, it is reasonable to reach out to groups with higher prevalence (African Americans over age 40, Asians, older people [aged 65+ years] especially older Hispanics, those with a family history of glaucoma, and those with diabetes).

    The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to encourage applications from the scientific community to support outstanding research related to the role of the gut microbiome in regulating metabolism and reproduction, and its impact on the fertility status. The overarching goal is to gain fundamental insight into the possible role of the gut microbiome in regulating reproduction through HPG, HPA, and HPT axes in the brain. The results of the study could lead to development of diagnostic markers (signature microbiomes) for reproductive and metabolic failure.     This is a Task Agreement under a Youth Master Cooperative Agreement P15AC00031. The Recipient with recruit 2 interns. The purpose of this project is to provide youth hands-on experience in natural and cultural restoration and toenhance the scientific communities knowledge adding to the study/ monitoring of bats. This is in regards to the White Nose Syndrome (WNS),a deadly disease that affects North American bats. The work done by the interns will help the management and provide for public awareness. The primary goal is to continue with a landscape project involving 22 acres that was started in 2017.The objectives are to re-seed with native grasses and forbs. This project incorporates these public purposes: The information, products and/or services identified or developed by this project will be shared through a variety of strategies to increase public awareness, knowledge and support for historic preservation and stewardship of the nation's cultural and historical heritage. The principal purpose of the project is to support the Government's objective to provide opportunities for youth to learn about the environment by spending time working on projects in National Parks. The NPS receives the indirect benefit of completing conservation projects.

    The American College of Cardiology's Accreditation Services help hospitals improve care for patients with acute coronary syndromes, heart failure, and atrial fibrillation. In 2016, ACC merged with the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care (SCPC), a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the care and outcomes of patients worldwide facing the same complications. To preserve the legacy of SCPC, an endowment was created to support future cardiovascular quality or performance improvement initiatives, particularly those that underscore the importance of accreditation. To advance that mission, ACCF is accepting proposals that support cardiovascular quality improvement of cardiovascular care and patient outcomes. Hence there is a need to be better prepared for such pandemics. We need to solve problems ranging from predictive analytics innovative devices for saving lives to technology for devising voting machines. The social and economic impact for the above areas is huge and some of the work can be transformative and save lives.     In an effort to support cardiovascular quality and performance improvement, the ACC provides funding opportunities that support future cardiovascular quality initiatives (QI) or performance improvement (PI), particularly those that highlight the importance of accreditation. Funding to support these projects is made possible by the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care (SCPC), which was a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the care and outcomes of patients worldwide with suspected acute coronary syndrome, heart failure, and atrial fibrillation through innovative cross-disciplinary processes. Its merger with the American College of Cardiology Foundation (ACCF) in 2016 provided an opportunity to leverage the accreditation strength of the SCPC into the large portfolio of services the ACCF offers. To preserve the legacy of the SCPC, an endowment was created to support future cardiovascular QI or PI, particularly those efforts that highlight the importance of accreditation.
