The Breakthrough Fellowship Award mechanism is being offered for the first time in FY16. The Breakthrough Fellowship Award supports recent doctoral or medical graduates in pursuit of innovative, high-impact breast cancer research during their postdoctoral fellowship and allows them to obtain the necessary experience for an independent career at the forefront of breast cancer research. Those individuals should be exceptionally talented researchers who have demonstrated that they are the "best and brightest" of their peers. Applicants for this award must exhibit a strong desire to pursue a career in breast cancer research, with clear evidence for a researcher development plan that will lead to a successful independent career in breast cancer. Applicants must also demonstrate that the proposed research has high potential to lead to or make breakthroughs in breast cancer.

The Prevent Blindness Ohio Young Investigator Student Fellowship Awards for Female Scholars in Vision Research provides training support for future generations of outstanding female scientists committed to pursuing biomedical, behavioral or clinical research careers relevant to the mission of Prevent Blindness Ohio - to prevent blindness and preserve sight.  The fellowship awards provide partial support to younger investigators, promoting the development of scientific skills that will lead to more substantial funding from other sources.

The training of a new generation of psychiatric academicians is a major objective of the Society of Biological Psychiatry.  Participation in professional meetings, where new information is exchanged and contacts are made, can have a critical impact on the career of a developing clinician-scientist. Prevent Blindness Ohio is accepting applications for its 2014 Young Investigator Student Fellowship Awards for Female Scholars in Vision Research. The Fellowship Program is designed to provide support for outstanding female scientists committed to pursuing biomedical, behavioral or clinical research careers relevant to the mission of Prevent Blindness Ohio - to prevent blindness and preserve sight. 

The purpose of this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) is to support the applicant's management of domestic fellowships for students or recent graduates of CEPH-accredited schools or programs of public health or CCNE-accredited baccalaureate and higher degree colleges of nursing. Fellowships and other similar experiential placements are vital to CDC's strategic interests to ensure students and emerging health professionals receive adequate hand-on experience in public health practice at CDC's domestic offices, at state, tribal, local, and territorial health departments, and at other community-based settings. For the purposes of this NOFO, fellowships are for recent graduates within five years of graduation. The overall goal is to create the opportunities for academia to develop qualified, knowledgeable and experienced students and emerging health professionals suitably prepared to serve in governmental public health practice, or able to apply public health concepts in various healthcare or other settings, to collectively meet the challenge of improving the population’s health. An application that exceeds the upper value of the specified dollar range will be considered non-responsive and will not receive further review.

Each ACT Fellowship will provide up to $220,000 for up to thirty-three months in support of a systematic and sustained course of study in an empirical science such as physics, psychology, biology, genetics, cognitive science, neuroscience, or sociology. Acceptable courses of study might include a plan to audit undergraduate and graduate-level courses, a plan to spend time in residence at a research lab, or a plan to earn a degree in an empirical science. This iteration of the program also will permit applicants to request that up to one year of the ACT Fellowship be used to support a small-scale pilot scientific research project that improves or enhances the capacity, skill, and talent of the fellow to investigate the above-described Big Questions. Fellows may undertake their study at their home institution or another institution. All fellows must have a faculty mentor in their cross-training discipline.

The Hertz Fellowship provides financial and lifelong professional support for the nation's most promising graduate students in science and technology. The fellowship includes up to five years of funding, valued at up to $250,000, and the freedom to pursue innovative projects wherever they may lead. The Society of Toxicology, a professional and scholarly organization of scientists who practice toxicology in the United States and abroad, is committed to creating a safer and healthier world by advancing the science of toxicology. The Society promotes the acquisition and utilization of knowledge in toxicology, aids in the protection of public health, and facilitates disciplines. The Society is accepting applications for the 2014 Syngenta Fellowship Award in Health Applications of New Technologies. The award, presented to either a third year (or later) graduate student or a postdoctoral trainee, is designed to support mode-of-action research aimed at characterizing dose-dependent effects of xenobiotics on mammalian systems in such a way that the causal sequence of key events underlying toxicity is elucidated. The work should permit a quantitative basis for extrapolation of the results from animal bioassays or animal models (in silico, in vitro) to humans at relevant human doses. The award consists of a plaque, $15,000 in fellowship funds, travel support to the SOT Annual Meeting to accept the award and for travel to a Syngenta facility to present the results. This is a one year, non-renewable award.

The Directorate for Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences (SBE) offers Postdoctoral Research Fellowships to encourage independence early in the Fellow's career through supporting his or her research and training goals. The research and training plan of each Fellowship must address important scientific questions within the scope of the SBE Directorate and the specific guidelines in this solicitation. The Beckman Center for the History of Chemistry at the Chemical Heritage Foundation, an independent research library in Philadelphia, is inviting applications for short- or long-term fellowships in the history of science, technology, medicine, and industry. The research collections at CHF range chronologically from the fifteenth century to the present and include six thousand rare books, significant archival holdings, thousands of images, and a large artifact and fine arts collection, supported by over one hundred thousand reference volumes and journals. Within the collections there are many areas of special strength, including alchemy, mining & metallurgy, dyeing and bleaching, balneology, gunpowder and pyrotechnics, gas-lighting, books of secrets, inorganic and organic chemistry, biochemistry, food chemistry, and pharmaceuticals.

This TRI RFA is soliciting applications for its Postdoctoral Fellowship Program. Postdoctoral Fellowships will be competitively awarded in any laboratory in the U.S. conducting biomedical/biotechnological research aligned with TRI's mission and goals (Section A). Applications will be screened for compliance and undergo a scientific/technical peer-review by an external peer-review committee consisting of a number of eminent scientists that are familiar with space biomedical/biotechnological research. Relevance to TRI's and NASA's programmatic needs and goals will also be evaluated by TRI management. Selections will be performed by the TRI Selection Official. The award is for two years of funding with an optional, competitively awarded third year of funding that may be available depending on existing TRI resources. Requests for a third year of funding will take into account the awardee's performance during the first two years of funding and be evaluated via external peer-review and also by TRI's Executive Council (TRIEC). All researchers, regardless of support by NASA or TRI, can serve as Mentors for this competitive funding.

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health Policy Fellows program is designed to provide a comprehensive fellowship experience at the nexus of health science, policy, and politics in Washington, D.C. The program provides an opportunity for exceptional mid-career health professionals and behavioral and social scientists with an interest in health and healthcare policy. Fellows participate in the policy process at the federal level and use that leadership experience to improve health, health care, and health policy. Exceptional candidates from academic faculties and nonprofit healthcare organizations are encouraged to apply. Applicants may have backgrounds in the disciplines of allied health professions, biomedical sciences, dentistry, economics or other social sciences, health services organization and administration, medicine, nursing, public health, social and behavioral health, or health law. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Up to six grants of a maximum of $165,000 will be made in 2018. Each fellow will receive up to $104,000 for their stay in Washington (September 1, 2018, through August 31, 2019) in salary, plus fringe benefits or a fellowship stipend.
