This website offers a multitude of resources designed for music-making. This specific organization is devoted to offering musical programs to students who are in the 80% of the population that are not involved in performing ensembles. It offers curriculum, lesson plans, and interactive activities for guitar, piano, drums, bass, ukulele, composition, voice and more. There are free PDF songbooks and lesson plans that are connected to the program, that are extremely helpful towards teacher and student interest. The best part of the program is that the majority of the music is examples that students know already - a lot of pop, rock, and even hip-hop. It connects the bridge between traditional musical concepts with music of today.

Little Kids Rock has a multitude of resources for creating a modern band in your classroom. There are songs loaded on the website that include tab for ukulele, guitar, and bass. There are also drum set patterns included. This website serves to expose educators and students modern band and provides lesson plans to go along with the popular songs. Little Kids Rock also provides workshops on how to effectively teach a modern band program.

This website offers many lessons for instruments that students may be interested in playing (piano, guitar, songwriting, drums,etc). The website offers video lessons as well as current play-along songs for students to put their newly learned skills to work.

The American String Teachers Association is filled with helpful resources for string teachers specifically. The "teaching resources" page includes tips for working on string specific content such as bowing technique and left and right hand position.

This website offers a wide variety of music titles to be used in a choral, general music, or individual lessons classroom. Although many of the scores need to be paid for, there are many free ones available as well.

This resource is very beneficial for the improvement of sight-reading skills. Users can choose different levels, keys, time signatures, and specific rhythms to help develop sight-reading proficiency. This is a valuable resource for both classroom and private music educators

The Sight Reading Factory generates excerpts of music based on parameters entered by the user. It is especially useful for practicing specific areas of music-reading skills (e.g. bass clef, odd-meters, difficult rhythms), or reinforcing general concepts of reading traditionally-notated music. While the site is good for the practice of mechanics, one might argue that robotically-created music is less useful for the development of musicality (or that computer-composed music isn't "music" at all). Excerpts can be generated for individuals singing or playing instruments, or for ensembles. There is also a section for solfege pattern practice. This resource creates sheet music excerpts for reading practice, without much regard to form or structure--it does not generate full works of literature for performance.

This website offers specific melodies created to assist students in learning Sight Reading skills. Paying for a membership would be beneficial in order to fully use the website, but not necessary to access activities for classroom use.

Auralia is a comprehensive LMS of 43 topics for ages beginners to advanced in music aural theory. Instruction and testing is sequential and logical with a nonthreatening, easy to use interface. The student and/or educator set the pace of learning. Feedback is formative and immediate with questions that keep the student focused on the concept and aware of progress. Learning reinforced through repeated emphasis on hearing, seeing and notating the aural theory concept, e.g., intervals, chords, progressions.

Music Blog by Dale Duncan, a middle school choral director. Dale shares tips and resources on his blog regarding middle school choral pedagogy and also sells a sight singing method called S-Cubed that he has developed with his choral programs and has seen great success.

Blog, videos, and resources by Joe Gilder regarding Audio Recording, mixing, mastering, songwriting, and music technology. Geared to home studio enthusiasts, the materials on this site can be of great value to music teachers as well as students in music technology classes as well as general music classes diving into songwriting or audio.

Allows you to watch performances from different angles in order to see the conductor and different instrumentalists. Allows for a unique view of an orchestra where you can be up close to the people playing in a way that the full view of an orchestra doesn't allow. The interactive nature of being able to change camera angles is also engaging, and would get students interested in seeing the different facets of a whole symphonic performance.

IPA Source is an excellent resource for any choral director, especially if you include foreign language pieces in your repertoire. Not only does this site offer IPA translations and guides for your knowledge, but you can even use it as a resource to teach your students the International Phonetic Alphabet. This resource is not entirely free, but the subscriptions are relatively affordable for educational institutions.

The Kidzone by the New York Philharmonic is an interactive website for children to use to learn primarily about instruments, composers, and famous musicians. It includes games, videos, audio recordings, and text. Students can interact with games that allow them to match rhythms, sort instruments into families, build an instrument, create a graphic-based composition, and match instruments and composers. There is also information about children's concerts.

This is an awesome resource that's student-friendly and focuses on instruments of the orchestra, as well as composers. It creates a strong connection between concept and real-world scenarios. The website is designed around the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. There are engaging and interactive games and lessons for students to learn about the orchestra and test their knowledge.

Very engaging and visually appealing website from the New York Philharmonic. Unfortunately many of the links would not work; however, one really cool feature is that there are recordings of symphony performances that can be viewed in a classroom. Much better quality of video than many available videos on YouTube.

The ChoralWiki (CPDL) is a great resource for choral teachers and choir directors. There is access to free music, texts and translations, seasonal indices, and discussion forums for questions and answers about music, rehearsal techniques, and performance. 

Choral director on a budget? This website features over 20,000 scores by over 2500 composers! An amazing resource of free music available mostly in PDF format for use and downloading.

The Choral Public Domain Library is a free and legal source for free sheet music! This site offers printable scores of public domain music, often complete with text and translations when necessary. You can search this catalog by composer, title, arrangements, voicing, accompaniments, language, and genre. Complete with over 31,000 scores by over 3,200 different composers, there's a high possibility that any choral director might find something of use here!

Fun and (mostly) kid friendly website with links for kids to learn more about music and composers with somewhat of a piano focus. Uses the Dr. Who "Tardis" to travel through time and space to meet different composers, which could a cool "hook" for students with an interest in the Dr. Who BBC show.

This site offers a 10 part series of 75 interviews and over 500 pieces of music on the growth and development of jazz. Begins in the New Orleans and takes the viewer through to Lincoln Gardens, Southside Chicago.

Great resource for teachers with students who would like to pursue a career as a music teacher. Also contains helpful links to a variety of associations for current music teachers. Although there are resources (like lesson plans) available, I was disappointed in how few of the arts lesson plans pertained to music.

This website offers information about hearing and how to preserve your hearing, which can be a useful lesson for many student musicians.

Pertinent information about ear health as it pertains to listening to audio with headphones and preventing ear loss. Could be a good resource for music teachers who engage in individual listening assignments, helping students to understand the importance of turning the volume down when things get too loud, etc.

These TED Talks focused on Education are an excellent resource for any educator, including Music Educators. These podcasts are an efficient way to learn new information while commuting, doing chores around the house, and even dutifully listening while taking notes. These podcasts range in topics, and cover anything from specific concepts to worldwide educational trends.
