A tremendous resource for creating performing, understanding and responding to music with an iPad. Also, there are links for general administrative and productivity apps which are useful for other academic disciplines.  Additionally, there is a lot of information that is useful about hardware and connecting the iPhone/iPod touch/iPad. Great resource for using iPads in the music classroom, which is what is needed for me personally. 

This document comes from a Learning Station Session presented by Dr. William Bauer for the International Society for Technology in Education. The session centered around apps and tools that can be used on the iPad that match the music standards of creating, responding, and performing. The site contains a full list of apps and tools available for the iPad and they help make the iPad a music learning tool. 

Dr. Bauer provides a comprehensive list of programs and apps for the Ipad that can be used in the music classroom. These apps can provide ways to create music and transform the Ipad into an actual musical instrument. Dr. Bauer creates lists separated into apps that will create music, perform music, help with understanding music, ease administration, and other resources. This list cannot only help integrate technology into the classroom, but also show music in a different light.

Music education based websites from MTNA . This also offers parent resources when choosing music teachers. There are many beneficial websites that are excellent for teachers.

This is an itunes preview of Vic Firth Marching Percussion Video Podcasts. Each of these videos are free to view in itunes and many are from drum corps and other percussion professionals. These videos have interviews, lessons and performances. This is a great resource for percussion students for inspiration as well as showing them about DCI. 

Music blogs from music teachers.

Podcast for learning about jazz artists, specific albums and genres of jazz. There are currently 269 podcasts that are free and describe many different artists such as: Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins, Clifford Brown, Louis Armstrong, BIll Evans, Duke Ellington, plus many, many more. THe podcasts are created by Dr. Gordon Vernick, Associate Professor of Music at Georgia State. This is fantastic resource for students as well as educators. 

This is a great website for building a WebQuest. In addition, teachers can share, comment on, and build upon each others web quests.  

This site provides a myriad of links to several music education resources such as Pedagogy resources, power point presentations, songs, lesson plans, instruments, listening, and assessment resources.

Benefits of music education for children. 

PBS discusses the importance and benefits of music education. PBS explains that music facilitates learning in other subjects. Learning music taps into multiple skills sets. PBS explains the various categories that music helps benefit.

Language development, IQ, test scores, being musical

The ChoralWiki (CPDL) is a great resource for choral teachers and choir directors. There is access to free music, texts and translations, seasonal indices, and discussion forums for questions and answers about music, rehearsal techniques, and performance. 

Choral director on a budget? This website features over 20,000 scores by over 2500 composers! An amazing resource of free music available mostly in PDF format for use and downloading.

The Choral Public Domain Library is a free and legal source for free sheet music! This site offers printable scores of public domain music, often complete with text and translations when necessary. You can search this catalog by composer, title, arrangements, voicing, accompaniments, language, and genre. Complete with over 31,000 scores by over 3,200 different composers, there's a high possibility that any choral director might find something of use here!

Great blog with a lot of lesson plans and resources for elementary general music classrooms. It also has links to the blogger's pinterest account with more resources.

Compiled by the Library of Congress, Music and the Brain is a Podcast that has lectures, conversations and symposia about the connection between neuroscience and music. Kay Redfield Jamison is the project chair compiles scholars, composers, performers, theorists, physicians, psychologists and other experts to discuss topics such as: the future of music; music and grief; the mind of the artist and others. There are 20 podcasts and they are all free!

Jazz lesson for all instruments.

This website contains thousands of links to Smart Board games and activities for the music classroom. Some of the resources listed are free others can be used on a free trial based subscription or subscriptions are very low cost. 

TeacherVision.com is not a music education website exclusively, however, it provides many great resources that music teachers may find interesting or helpful. The site contains printables, graphic organizers, lesson plans, tips on classroom management, and great links to apps and software.

MagicMusicTutor.com has some really good materials available for free. I have had particular success with the free song arrangements for boomwhackers. There are also tutorial videos, music theory worksheets, virtual instruments, classroom ideas, guitar tutorials, a MIDI song library, and the site admin accepts requests for new materials.

This podcast series is about the role that music plays in the cognitive development of children and its importance in education. 

Blue Microphone website that describes their microphones (Desktop, Portable, USB, Handheld, iOS devices, including the YetiPro. I use the YetiPro and this is website is good for learning about future microphone purchases.

An app for the iPad that provides complete mastering for recordings. This app uses pre and post EQ as well as effects for making recordings sound polished and professional. Great to use for the band classroom when making recordings.
