Folk Song Collection that may be used to help find songs for teaching almost any musical concept. Primary and Secondary Sources with authentic notation and referenced material.

The American Folk Song Collection is a website that music educators can use to search for hundreds of folk songs. Each song includes a PDF of lyrics, melody, game/dance directions, song analysis, rhythms, and original source (some also include recordings). The website also includes basic information about the Kodaly approach.

The Kodaly Center website is a valuable resource for all music teachers and especially those teaching elementary general music. The website contains videos about the history and philosophy of Kodaly, as well as recent news and upcoming events being held at the Center. The most impressive feature of this site is the pubic domain library of songs and the precise ways they are categorized. Songs can be searched and categorized by: Origin, region, state, subject, song type, grade level, tonal Center, scale, tone set, melodic range, melodic element, melodic motive, rhythmic element, meter, form, formal analysis and game type. Once you find a song you can see all of this detailed information as well as (in most cases) listen to the song, often sung by a child or group of children.

This is the entire American Folk Song collection. This excellent resource can be used by educators to print out folk songs to use to teach their students specific music skills such as singing, audiating, pitch, and rhythm. The website even gives activity ideas to use for each specific song.

"What is Jazz?" is a four-part lecture about jazz by Dr. Billy Taylor presented at the John F. Kennedy Center. Dr. Bill Taylor is a noted jazz pianist, historian, and educator. His four-part lecture dives into the history of jazz and the most important moments of jazz history. The first lecture Centers around the origins of jazz in the African-American experience of slavery to the civil rights movement. This lecture explores the development of repertoire and techniques used in jazz performance. The second lecture discusses the techniques and traditions of jazz improvisation. The third lecture discusses the evolution of swing and rhythm/harmony with the inclusion of examples by a piano. The fourth lecture discusses the role of jazz in American culture and history, as well as the impact it has had on the world. 

The Center for Music Learning was established by the University of Texas at Austin as an online collective of information that is useful for music educators from a variety of disciplines. Users can find useful pedagogical information, access research, and connect with other educators across multiple disciplines in music. 

The Kennedy Center ArtsEdge site contains a wealth of lessons, activities, and supporting information to enhance arts education. There is an extensive media library containing audio stories, performance clips and other viable information for students.

This YouTube Channel is dedicated to jazz music education, sponsored by Jazz at Lincoln Center. It is filled with videos about jazz pedagogy and heritage. This is a great site for music educators to keep their jazz education up-to-date, and for students who have an interest in jazz music. Students are able to take video lessons or learn about different styles and composers of jazz. What a great resource about America's own style of music.

This is a great interactive music website to use with elementary students as a center or as a class.

My mentor showed me this website a few years ago. We both use it in our classrooms as a center for our elementary level general music classes.
