The Kidzone by the New York Philharmonic is an interactive website for children to use to learn primarily about instruments, composers, and famous musicians. It includes games, videos, audio recordings, and text. Students can interact with games that allow them to match rhythms, sort instruments into families, build an instrument, create a graphic-based composition, and match instruments and composers. There is also information about children's concerts.

This is an awesome resource that's student-friendly and focuses on instruments of the orchestra, as well as composers. It creates a strong connection between concept and real-world scenarios. The website is designed around the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. There are engaging and interactive games and lessons for students to learn about the orchestra and test their knowledge.

Very engaging and visually appealing website from the New York Philharmonic. Unfortunately many of the links would not work; however, one really cool feature is that there are recordings of symphony performances that can be viewed in a classroom. Much better quality of video than many available videos on YouTube.

An online marketplace for teachers to buy and sell classroom resources. I have found many free and low cost worksheets, visuals and even lesson plans online. Resources include worksheets for pitch, rhythm, composers, specific songs, like the Star Spangled Banner and so much more. A valuable resource for a teacher who does not want to "recreate the wheel" OR who is creative and likes to "recreate the wheel" and earn a little cash doing it!

Teachers Pay Teachers (TPT), is a great resource for lesson plans, bulletin boards, and so much more! While most resources are free, some you do have to pay for.

This would be a great source for teachers who need the documentation for certain topics. This website provides every grade level, along with every subject being provided. There are lots of information on this source for free, and there are also many sources that are not free. But it depends on what you want or need. The purpose of this sources is to give teachers a wide range of things, that they may need in their classrooms.

A word cloud generator can be used to take students responses and show a visual of what descriptors students used when responding. This generator allows you to chance how the text is printed, color format and how many words are shown.

This site provides an immersive experience for students to get the feeling of what it's like to play in an orchestra. You can view live performances from different camera angles, as if you are playing in the orchestra. They also include functions that allow you to switch views and explore facts about the different instruments and orchestral sections. This would provide a great visual support for active listening group activities in the classroom; the sound and video quality is excellent. This would also be tremendously helpful for students of conducting.

This is a music theory learning website from the Sibelius Academy school in Finland. It includes a special focus on jazz theory and has audio and visual support to support the text.

I have used animations from this website to show my students a visualization of the duration and pitch of notes. Kindergartners were fascinated by these videos, and really enjoyed each one.

Jazz in America is an all encompassing Jazz education website. It offers everything from what jazz is and how it began to lesson plans that examine characteristics of all different jazz styles. The website discusses important performers and composers. It also looks at how jazz evolved. Audio and visual examples are provided. Assessments are also provided in this website.

Music Graphics Galore contains a plethora of free musical visuals, in various formats. Some icons also have animations in GIF format. These resources allow, especially for elementary, music teachers to add exciting musical visuals (borders, notes, instruments etc.) to anything they need. Icons which accompany musical content are useful in performance and responding music activities.

This website is the Chrome Music lab. There are activities to explore all the elements of music. Some of the activities are composition related. There are visual representations of sound as well. You need to use the Chrome browser for them to work. My students really enjoyed this site.

This is a site that helps music teachers teach across the curriculum by connecting music to math, science, and art. These are online experiments that are interactive and have explanations behind the experiments.

Created by Google developers, this site contains various apps associated with different musical elements with the premise that users would simply explore. Songmaker and Kadinsky allow the creation of musical ideas while others explore rhythm chords, and how sound functions. Each app is extremely easy to use and is beneficial in any general music setting.

Fun game for developing the young ear. This can be used as a visual for teaching melodic direction and can lead into a discussion about texture and form.

A compilation of play-along music recordings for students to use Boomwhackers or other similar instruments. Musication provides several free videos for elementary and middle school music students to learn to play along with the melody or chord structure of a given song. New videos are added often and students definitely enjoy playing along.

Musication has play-a-long videos for boomwhackers, hand bells, and simple percussion instruments. The videos are color coded and often have varying levels of difficulty. It provides a visual for melodic direction, durations, and harmony that helps students to see, hear, and experience music in a variety of ways.

This site helps build rubrics used for assessments.  You can design your own rubrics for playing tests, performances and projects.

This is a website that links to various rubric-creating formats, designed to save educators time and effort in making more visually-appealing assessment tools. There is a brief article that discusses the benefits of implementing a rubric in assessment, and there are multiple links to other articles that discuss the pros and cons of utilizing rubrics at various levels of education. Within the initial article are 25 different formats, some more topic-specific than others, to generate rubrics with pictures and descriptions. It is easy to use and much more efficient than creating a rubric from scratch.

This resource is a web-based program which can generate polyrhythms. The graphics help visualize the rhythms in a pleasing and logical way. Specific polyrhythms can be generated in many layers, or random ones may also be generated within specific parameters. This might be used as an enrichment tool for aural skills courses.

Home to the percussion divisions of WGI (Winter Guard International). The site contains visual and audio media links and downloads, schedules, ticket information, and live webcast information for WGI "The Sport of the Arts." WGI is one of the fastest growing musical activities in the United States, comprised both student (scholastic) divisions and professional (independent) divisions. WGI has mission of providing the highest level of music education possible, constantly pushing and setting new musical standards.

Learning chords for older piano students can be tedious until they can effectively play them in a song. The use of technology could help students learn this necessary music theory skill and make it more enjoyable.

Music Theory is a topic that can often be confusing when beginning to learn.  This website does a great job of breaking down the elements of music theory for anyone who is trying to gain deeper understanding of Music Theory.

This website is great for quick music theory handouts for students. It contains PDF worksheets to print and share with students. Excellent free resource!

A Zaption video focusing on the form and best practices used in Brahms' "Hungarian Dance No. 5 in G minor."

This 100 Years of Rock link contains a chronological display of how popular music has evolved.  It provides listening examples for dozens of American genres of music, from rock to country, blues, pop, and countless other sub-genres.  This link would make for interesting conversation with a History of Rock N' Roll class or classes about American music.  I especially enjoyed the listening examples because they give evidence to how much culture has influenced the different styles of American popular music.  I feel that students would very much enjoy this link because the listening examples cater to their interests, especially as the viewer scrolls toward the bottom of the page.

An amazing site for all instrumentalists that includes audio/video demonstrations of most woodwind, brass, string, percussion, and keyboard instruments. Examples of articulation, timbre in different registers, mutes, vibrato, special effects, and more are provided.

A great interactive way for students to learn the instruments of the orchestra, as well as fretted strings, without sitting through a lecture. What fun this would be as a scavenger hunt for the students with QR codes.

This site has amazing videos that demonstrate quality technique or a wide range of instruments.

Excellent for showing very young students the relationship between high and low pitches visually while creating their own compositions.
