Drum corp is something that many high school students dream of becoming a part of.  Many students in marching bands around the world dream to become a DCI champion.  Vic Firth teamed up with the Cadets and have made videos with the music from their 2015 production, "The Power of 10" featuring the selection "Waltz".  Students can play along whether they are in the front ensemble, snare line, bass line, or tenor line.

How to make accommodations for music students with special needs has always been a topic of conversation; however, as author Mary Rogelstad suggests, we have nothing to fear; among her list of recommended strategies for effective differentiation are items like teaching lessons that appeal to multiple senses and varying the speed of the content, or repertoire, to be learned and performed. As you can see, Rogelstad provides a sort of manual that helps us help our students to reach their maximum potential.

One fascinating information I picked from this book is the use of classroom mobile phones. Almost every student in high school has access to a mobile phone. These mobile phones have a new software called "blue tooth" which enables one to share a file from a phone to a computer or to another person's phone. This tool can be utilised in class during composition, for students to share their compositions and get feedback from each other. These compositions can then be sent to a computer and students edit their compositions using soft wares like Audacity.

MuseScore3 is full-featured, open-source music notation software. This software is installed directly on a computer, and has compatible versions for PC, Mac, and Linux operating systems. There is no online or "cloud" version of this software. Although MuseScore is free, it is a professional music notation alternative to Finale and Sibelius and is capable of producing high-quality musical scores in a variety of formats. MuseScore also has full capability to produce audio playback, export to audio, and generate MIDI files.

This application is easily accessible and is free of charge. It is a software that is updated almost every month to make the features better. Muse Score has an easy to use interface and is a good tool to use in class for children to write down their simple compositions. Students are able to play back their compositions to their classmates, print them out, and/or even share them online. While using MuseScore, students learn many different musical concepts like dynamics, timbre, form, texture, structure, melody, repetition, phrasing, rhythm, tone, to mention but a few. MuseScore enhances the musicianship of students.

MusicTheory.net is a great website to teach theory to students. It has lessons on a variety of topics, interactive exercises to support the theory topics, and tools that could be used in conjunction with other activities in the classroom. There are also apps available for devices. The best part is that the exercises can be customized (scroll down to the bottom of the exercise or tools pages) with a permanent link so that students can take quizzes or have additional practice for specifics without having to change the settings for themselves. For example, note identification can be customized to the clef and range of a specific instrument and sent to those students for practice or quizzes.

This website is very helpful when teaching students to play guitar chords. Students are able to search for the song they would like to play and see what chords are needed to play. When the mouse moves over the chords, a chart pops up to show the student how to play the chord.

This is a quick way of printing out sheet music for students. If students want to print out sheet music at home, they can use this website. This helps encourage students to work on compositional skills. It has different pre-sets for different instruments.

The purpose of this website is to provide a young music student with resources to support music learning. The learning focuses mostly on recorder, pitch identification, and aural identification. Also, there are videos that are available for students to sing along. Overall the site is a kid-friendly that is easy to navigate. The website would be a good resource for recorder skills, aural skills and pitch identification. Elementary or beginning student would benefit from using the site.

NATS is an organization designed specifically for that purpose. It provides information for their events, the opportunity to find vocal coaches, and vocal literature that would enhance any instructor's library.

An all-encompassing website for choral directors in the United States. Provides information regarding competitions, professional development, instruction and many other areas. Journals inform teachers of latest news in the field of vocal teaching.

The purpose of the resource is to provide singing teachers multiple resources and professional development. NATS is an organization geared towards private lesson and studio teachers who work in a variety of settings and teach a variety fo students. Membership is costly but resource include access to journals and ability to register students for scholarship competitions.

MusicFirst suggests this LMS comprehensive aural theory software designed for grades K-12 and beyond. Since it was created in 1990, it has been monitor and enhanced to provide a tool for educators and students. It is cloud-based, supported by educators with decades of knowledge and skill in integrating technology into the music classroom. Auralia promotes student ownership of learning through the appropriately paced lessons and exams which provide immediate formative feedback.

The website also contains fingering charts for cellists, technique information, information on how to care for the cello, information on the history of the cello and a page for Christmas music.

It is a similar structure to Viola Online, with slight variations in what is offered for the instrument. There is also a link to a store for all these websites for purchases for the instruments.

There are students who love music, but they do not want to sing or play an instrument. Music technology classes allow these students the opportunity to be creative while participating in their love for music. This blog discusses the importance of music technology classes and how fostering this skill can lead to a career in the ever growing music industry.

Students get to interact with the different instruments of the orchestra while learning different facts about the instrument families and working towards a goal of completing the orchestra at the end of the game.

This website is the Chrome Music lab. There are activities to explore all the elements of music. Some of the activities are composition related. There are visual representations of sound as well. You need to use the Chrome browser for them to work. My students really enjoyed this site.

Created by Google developers, this site contains various apps associated with different musical elements with the premise that users would simply explore. Songmaker and Kadinsky allow the creation of musical ideas while others explore rhythm chords, and how sound functions. Each app is extremely easy to use and is beneficial in any general music setting.

As a bassoon player I often have people approach me about how I can play such an impossible instrument and how do I recruit? This article is short but has many good thoughts on how to recruit and have success in starting a double reed student. The main sections is how to garner interest to get students to play the instrument, the personality of a double reed player, and how to help students be successful once they've started playing a double reed. There is a search engine that allows for an easy look-up of any artist, and accompanying this search is a timeline of major events, a brief history of the artist's life, and insight that the general public may not know about the artist. There is also research and insight about individual songs that the artist released or collaborated on. Songfacts can be a great resource to give more context about music that students are learning to in and out of class. It can engage students in listening to music more actively if they are intrigued about the artist's life, struggles, achievements, vision, and motivation for creation.

A nice aspect of this site is that it provides information not only in the form of text, but also graphs and charts. This makes the information presented easy to comprehend for a larger audience. Teachers can use the informaion from these research studies and blogs to ensure that their music program is genuinely helping all of the students and to educate themselves on the importance of music education/its place in todays changing views on the arts as a core subject.
