    I've used this site with students playing boomwhackers along with the animation. It's very easy for children to use and provides a great tool for visually representing sound and fractions (both in relation to the tube length and also the beats in the measures).

  • In fact, informal reviews of private teachers' instructions for practice reveal that teachers commonly assign only what to practice and how long to practice, with little attention given to specific proximal goals to be accomplished each day.
  • This is in stark contrast to assignments in many academic disciplines in school, where students are given sets of problems to solve, chapters to read, or essays to write, and the time devoted to homework is determined by the time required to complete the problems, read the chapters, or compose the essays. It seems readily accepted in other disciplines by teachers and students alike that all students will not devote the same amount of time to assignments, because individual learners work at different rates and different learners will not require the same amount of time to complete each assignment. This allows you to choose your instrument, the level for sight-reading, the time signature, and the key in which you wish it to produce a sight-reading exercise. This is very easy to use and will produce 8 new measures of sight-reading based on the aforementioned attributes.

    The Sight Reading Factory link is one of the best sight-reading websites I have come across to date.  Within the free demo, I was able to access sight reading exercises for a number of band, instrumental, and vocal practice lessons.  In my personal exploration of the demo, I first looked into locating sight reading exercises for piano.  I was able to edit the time signature and key signature before seeing the practice exercises.  This feature is GREAT for people who are learning to play/count in different meters or using accidentals in their piano playing.  The same can be said for people learning to utilize solfedge in their singing, utilize new fingerings in their instrumental playing, or simply challenge themselves.  The website offers multiple difficulty levels, making the use of this website in a secondary music school setting ideal.  Sight reading exercises and study are some of the major contributors to my development as a musician and educator.  Since the exercises are generated on command, the site provides unlimited sight reading exercises to its users, making its longevity a strong selling-point.

The technical support is great, and can problem solve quickly. Build sight-reading skills with the entire class, or create individual sight-reading assignments for students. Educators can generate custom sight-reading examples by easy selection of criteria. This site is worth the money and can be beneficial for student achievement in learning to read and sing musical notation.

    This site can be used for practicing sight reading. The possibilities of combinations of notes, short songs, and everything can be found here. I have even found that state all-state bands have used it to create their sight reading pieces for all state band. It does cost, but the price can be worth it even if just a teacher subscription is bought.
