Great elementary music exploration site!

SFSKids is an interactive website for kids. This website offers listening, playing, performing, conducting and composing opportunities. 

The San Francisco Kids website offers students many musical activities from listening, performing, composing and even conducting. I think that my elementary music students would love this site, and that it would also work well on the SMARTboard in class. I think the visuals would keep students engaged, and excited about music learning.

This is a great website for teaching beginning composition!

This composition site through Classics for Kids gives two levels of composing- beginner and advanced. A great variety of notes to be used (there are dotted rhythms in the advanced level), and students can drag the notes/rests easily to where they'd like to on the staff. This site is great for teaching composition, beats, time signature, treble clef staff and notes.

This website is a game designed to introduce instruments to students (K-5) in a fun and interactive way.  Benjamin Britten's composition "A Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra" is used as the basis for this adventure.

This website is a game developed by Carnegie Hall that helps younger students learn the instruments of the orchestra. The game uses Benjamin Britten's Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra. This interactive game helps students understand the layout of an orchestra, the ranges of the individual instruments, and how they sound individually and together in an ensemble. This is an excellent tool for elementary music!

This is a great resource for teachers and students that connects to music history. This could serve as a review resource or a quick introduction for whatever musical period is being studied. If offers great facts as well as information about instruments from that time. It could also be used as a WebQuest assignment for sub-plans.

This website offers a multitude of resources designed for music-making. This specific organization is devoted to offering musical programs to students who are in the 80% of the population that are not involved in performing ensembles. It offers curriculum, lesson plans, and interactive activities for guitar, piano, drums, bass, ukulele, composition, voice and more. There are free PDF songbooks and lesson plans that are connected to the program, that are extremely helpful towards teacher and student interest. The best part of the program is that the majority of the music is examples that students know already - a lot of pop, rock, and even hip-hop. It connects the bridge between traditional musical concepts with music of today.

Little Kids Rock has a multitude of resources for creating a modern band in your classroom. There are songs loaded on the website that include tab for ukulele, guitar, and bass. There are also drum set patterns included. This website serves to expose educators and students modern band and provides lesson plans to go along with the popular songs. Little Kids Rock also provides workshops on how to effectively teach a modern band program.

This website offers many lessons for instruments that students may be interested in playing (piano, guitar, songwriting, drums,etc). The website offers video lessons as well as current play-along songs for students to put their newly learned skills to work.

Websites for Kids offers links to variety of sites that include performer-based, symphony-based, music game/theory/history/listening, teacher and other resources. Included in some of the links are resources that include games, aural training, music theory/history, composition, music technology, and audit/video about performances. This is a motivating site for learners to engage in a variety of activities.

This is the Dallas Symphony's kids page. They have great videos and resources about the instruments of the orchestra and composers. There are lesson plans available as well. This is probably geared more toward younger students.

The Dallas Symphony Orchestra's purpose for creating this site is to compile a variety of interactive games and resources for kids to access and explore orchestral instrumentation and sound. The games and interactive information is engaging and informative, especially for the young general music student as well as beginning instrumentalists.

The Dallas Symphony Orchestra has compiled a website for teachers and students. The materials from this site will enhance certain musical concepts being taught in class to increase students' levels of engagement. There are videos and songs to enhance music lessons, as well as ideas and materials for lesson plans. The DSO page also provides multiple resources and links to other educational outlets for students in elementary school, as well as accompanying teacher resources and activities for their students.

The San Francisco Symphony's purpose in creating this site was to compile a variety of interactive games and resources for kids to access and explore orchestral instrumentation and sound. There are engaging music activities for all ages and a calendar of events for live exploration and learning.

This website from PBS gives students (K-5) an opportunity to play games associated with different types of music.  Art and music are combined in some instances to appeal to this age group.  Non-traditional composition is also covered in these games in particular genres of music.

This is a fun and interactive way for pre-school or lower elementary aged kids to learn about music. They can explore many timbres of sound with familiar characters. I use this with my own children and it's a hit!

This website has a wide selection of music games for the young musician. Games are flash-based and are in a variety of musical genres. Many games require the user to compose in a specific style. Would work well on Chromebooks or computer lab.

This is a kids Jazz website. Learn a little bit about the history of jazz, where it comes from and the basic form that goes with it. Play games and watch videos to help internalize the jazz form.

An awesome listening activity for Pre-school aged students. Five listening excerpts from classical music related to water. Each example includes ideas of what to listen for while listening. Additional examples are included for possible extension. Teachers can add movements to each example for a kinesthetic activity.

This is a youtube video made for 3rd graders about music from around the world. I think it would be really easy to have kids make videos like this themselves, so I'm posting it more as an idea to be replicated than to actually use. I think some of the information is slightly inaccurate, but the idea is fantastic

This community website is for children to share songs, build communities themselves, and create ideas with other children which will allow growth as a students and music lover. The purpose of this site is to give adults and students feedback on events happening, gatherings of music lovers, and to give insight into the quality of music. This site includes children's links to other websites such as Kids Music Connection and Children's Radio List. It also articles that include songs to sing, literacy learning, and events that take place within different regions of the United States.

My mentor showed me this website a few years ago. We both use it in our classrooms as a center for our elementary level general music classes.

This website is a great source for teaching about music, opera and could even integrate literature with story line, characters, setting, etc.
