  • It is also important for students to practice with a model and without a model. I give them a model about 50 percent of the time. In the very beginning, when it’s only three or four notes, the rhythm is not usually a problem

  • I use “sizzling” and “long tones.” Sizzling is great because you have the students create a natural resistance that simulates what it is like playing the horn

This is a great website for general music teachers, as well as any secondary teacher wishing to incorporate movement and improvisation into their classroom.     This website is for a podcast I have been listening to for a few years. The podcast is very interesting an informative. It give a different perspective on teaching band. Though I don't teach in a similar situation, things can be applied to my situation.

    This is a website geared for string musicians or educators. This website provides string teachers with many professional development opportunities! Educators are able to share information about their various programs, and offer suggestions to one another. There are so many teaching resources on this website and one of the best parts is as a member, you are able to watch the recorded sessions from the National Conferences which are sometimes hard to attend. These sessions are extremely important for string teachers to see what teachers from around the country are doing in their own program. It offers great opportunities for networking as well as for anyone who is seeking work in another location.
