Contest For Early Pottermore Access Leads To Massive Traffic & eBay Action | paidCo... - 0 views

  •
Harry Potter e-books site Pottermore.com officially launches in October, but a "Magical Quill" contest that grants one million winners access to the beta site is drawing massive traffic. And beta accounts are popping up on eBay. For each of the seven days, a clue will be posted on the Pottermore homepage, leading those who solve it to the "Magical Quill"-the opportunity to register for early access to the site. A limited number of people are able to register each day, and the competition is designed to keep them glued to the site-though some winners immediately began selling their early-access accounts on eBay. (The bidding on one account is now up to $152.50.)

Access control system uses the human body for signal transmission - 1 views

  •
BodyCom is a new technology from Arizona-based Microchip that uses the human body as a secure communication channel. As the number of devices at our disposal continues to increase, authentication and security become more important than ever. The system communicates bi-directionally between a centralized controller and one or more wireless mobile fobs, using the human body as the transmission medium. So, a gun could only be used by the person with the right key fob, for example, or a pet door could be secured so only the right pet can open it. Neither RF antenna nor wireless transceiver are required by the system, which also offers low power consumption. Other potential applications include security systems, patient monitoring, and gaming profile management.

  •
"Koozoo is a platform that crowd-sources live video from public places to create a continuously broadcasting network. Members of the community can post and watch user-generated video feeds from places ranging from cafes to world landmarks. Whether you want to assess the wait time for coffee or see a real-time view of the beach, Koozoo's goal is to make "live views of the world's public spaces easily accessible to one and all." "Koozoo will usher in a new era that reads like science fiction today," said Trevor Darrell, professor at UC Berkeley in a statement. "For example, within a few years I expect Koozoo to let you take a virtual walk down the street in Tokyo or Paris in 3D, live, as you sit comfortably at home in California.""
