Apple Threatens Search Giants' Mobile Ad Shares - BusinessWeek - 0 views

  • On June 7, Cupertino (Calif.)-based Apple said it had $60 million in iAd commitments from marketers, including food and personal-care product maker Unilever (UN), electronics retailer Best Buy (BBY), and satellite-television service provider DirecTV (DTV). Unilever, whose first iAd made its debut in July, is "extremely happy" with the results of its ad campaigns, Rob Master, the company's North American media director, says in an interview. More than 20 percent of people who click on Unilever iAds—which feature video and an interactive game—check out the ad a second time, he says.

Cody app makes a play as virtual coach for casual fitness fans - Tech News and Analysis - 0 views

  •
Cody also acts as a kind of virtual coach. When users first load the app, they're asked to identify their goals - from losing weight to building muscle tone to de-stressing. For now, the app just surfaces original content about workouts, healthy living and other topics that match up with those goals. But, ultimately, Javid said, the plan is for Cody to learn from users' activity and recommend articles, workouts, people or places that fit their interests. In time, he added, the app could integrate with fitness tracking devices to get an even more comprehensive view of each user.

Facebook Home offers a fresh take on Android UI (Photos) - 2 views

  •
It should come as little surprise to industry observers that Facebook plans to unveil both a rich, skinned version of its Android app at a press event tomorrow, along with the first hardware to run that experience out of the box. The phone, by HTC, is appropriately named "First"-appropriate because of its status as the première phone to undergo Facebookification and its similarity to the name of HTC's newest flagship, the One. Microsoft to Sell Skype Ads Overseas | ClickZ - 0 views

  •
Advertisements in Skype first appeared in March. Initial advertisers included Groupon, Universal Pictures and Visa. These ads appeared in the U.S., the U.K. and Germany. In a blog post at the time, Skype assured users its plan was to only show ads from just one brand per day in each market where advertising was sold. It also said the ads would not disrupt users' Skype experience with pop-ups or banners in the middle of calls.

Video: The Future Of The Remote Control In The Age Of Internet TV - 0 views

  •
The remote control must die; but what's next? One company at the apex of that question is Philips, which, unbeknownst to many onlookers, already makes remote controls for an array of TV makers, set-top box vendors and pay-TV operators like BSkyB. Philips now offers its own Wiimote-like gesture stick to screen makers like HP; (NYSE: HPQ) a motion-sensitive, qwerty-equipped uWand; candybars with integrated laptop trackpads and, yes, plain 'ol candybars for internet TV operators who still want them. All of this means the TV input segment is about to embark upon the same kind of innovative period of disruption and competing standards that the TV space is now wrestling with and which the internet itself before it first unleashed.

Your E-Book Is Reading You - WSJ.com - 0 views

  • It takes the average reader just seven hours to read the final book in Suzanne Collins's "Hunger Games" trilogy on the Kobo e-reader—about 57 pages an hour. Nearly 18,000 Kindle readers have highlighted the same line from the second book in the series: "Because sometimes things happen to people and they're not equipped to deal with them." And on Barnes & Noble's Nook, the first thing that most readers do upon finishing the first "Hunger Games" book is to download the next one. In the past, publishers and authors had no way of knowing what happens when a reader sits down with a book. Does the reader quit after three pages, or finish it in a single sitting? Do most readers skip over the introduction, or read it closely, underlining passages and scrawling notes in the margins? Now, e-books are providing a glimpse into the story behind the sales figures, revealing not only how many people buy particular books, but how intensely they read them.

Movie Crowdsources Set of 87 Posters Through Instagram | Adweek - 0 views

  •
Behold the world's first crowdsourced movie-poster campaign created through Instagram! It's the pinnacle of creative achievement! Sigh … humankind's obsession with the ubiquitous photo app continues, this time in Canada, where ad agency Taxi teamed with the Instagramers Montreal collective to create 87 posters promoting the new film J'Espère Que Tu Vas Bien, which roughly translates to Instagram Isn't So Great. Actually, it means I Hope You're Well, and the number of posters corresponds to the 87-minute running time of the movie, an experimental piece-entirely improvised, with no script written beforehand-that follows two friends as they saunter around Montreal. The Instagramers walked for 87 minutes, visiting locations used in the film, and submitted more than 600 shots all told.

Exclusive: Shazam launches partnership with WWE, reveals TV music data - 1 views

  •
While Shazam for TV has continued to grow, Shazam's music footprint still has a big affect on social TV. It's no surprise that many times users take out Shazam to uncover a song they're listening to on TV. Even for a recent WWE  episode there were over 1,000 tags, without any call-to-actions on TV. The most popular songs were:  "Voices," "Break the Walls Down," "Radio" and "I Came to Play," which are the entrance anthems for:  Randy Orton, Chris Jericho, Zach Ryder and The Miz, respectively. Additionally Shazam has shared with Lost Remote some of the most Shazamed songs during TV from June. British dubstep band, Nero, gained 100K tags since 7 June 2012 when the record was first used in the new ad campaign for HP dm 4 Laptop. Keeping with British acts Alex Clare's 'Too Close' gained 312K tags this month thanks to the record's inclusion in Internet Explorer ads. Some of these tags have been driven by radio, but generally we've seen that big spikes in traffic for 'Too Close' coincide with TV play. So far 'Too Close' has been tagged over 2 million times worldwide! Lumineers 'Ho Hey' scored 91K tags this month thanks to the inclusion of 'Ho Hey' in the new Bing commercial. Dire Straits 'Walk Of Life' gained 31K tags thanks to its use in a Burger King ad. TV shows also drove huge engagement this month. Suits (Caught A Ghost 'Time Go' was used and scored 12K tags) and Pretty Little Liars (The Strange Familiar 'Unwanted' 4K tags) both scored highly. The Middle East 'Blood' saw a huge rise in tags when HBO broadcast the film Crazy Stupid Love which uses the track. 'Blood' scored 29K tracks in June.
