Where are the bike lanes in Lego world? - The Verge - 0 views

  •
"Marcel Steeman, a regional councilor in the Netherlands, was playing Lego with his kids a few months ago when he noticed something strange. "There were Lego cyclists, but I wondered where they had to cycle," he told DutchNews.nl. "If you are Dutch you are used to having cycling lanes." The streets in Lego's city sets had space for cars, trains, even tiny storm drains but no designated space for zero-emission, human-powered vehicles like bikes. Even worse, it appeared that Lego's streets were becoming more hostile toward pedestrians over time. As compared to Lego sets from years ago, the cars seem to have grown larger - evolving from four- to six-studs wide - and the roads appeared to be getting wider, while the sidewalks were getting more and more narrow. LEGO'S CITIES SHOULD REFLECT STREET LIFE THAT PRIORITIZES ALL ROAD USERS Steeman said he believed that Lego's cities should reflect street life that prioritizes all road users, especially ones not powered by internal combustion engines. As a toy that can directly affect a child's understanding of the built environment, Lego is in the unique position of being able to forcefully advocate for streets that are safer and more environmentally friendly than the ones we have in the real world."

The people wanted Lego bike lanes, and Lego is finally listening - The Verge - 0 views

"A thousand years ago, back in 2019, a regional councilor in the Netherlands named Marcel Steeman undertook a seemingly impossible challenge: convince the makers of one of the most popular toys in the world to do something a little different. He wanted Lego, the toy production company based in Billund, Denmark, to add bike lanes to their tiny, brick-made cities. For years, the streets in Lego's city sets - once called base plates - had space for cars, people, even tiny storm drains, but no designated lanes for zero-emission, human-powered vehicles like bikes. Even worse, it appeared that Lego's streets had become more hostile toward pedestrians and cyclists over time. As compared to Lego sets from years ago, the cars seem to have grown larger - evolving from four- to six-studs wide - and the roads appeared to be getting wider, while the sidewalks were getting more and more narrow."

"Cyclists are sometimes difficult to spot, but there's no way you'll be able to miss somebody wearing one of these bike helmets. After all, how many human LEGO figures do you see on the roads every day? We're guessing not many."

"Les explications sur les Lego Fusion sont là. C'est une des réponses possibles à la question : "vers une révolution des modes de conceptions automobiles ?" Et c'est surtout le croisement parfait de : - côté conception : - la voiture comme plateforme collaborative ? - peut-on penser la voiture sans les jeux vidéo ? - côté construction : - l'amorce de la prochaine révolution automobile ? - et si c'était cela la mobilité post-fordiste ?"

"Add the new sustainable transportation system to your CITY Pollution is a very serious problem in our cities, and we need sustainable transportation systems to fight it. This bicycle rental system is the perfect complement to combat pollution in our cities. With the two bicycle parking stations, citizens can rent and return a bicycle. When you want to pick up a bicycle, go to the column with the computer and enter your user code. You can pick up the bicycle now. Simply connect the bike to the rack and the system will detect that you have returned it. An employee of the rental system may add bicycles to stations that are empty. With his electric vehicle and trailer he can transport up to 5 bicycles. When the battery of the vehicle runs out, you can go to the electric charger to recharge it."

TRANSIT-CITY / URBAN & MOBILE THINK TANK: LA RUE COMME USINE DU FUTUR ? - 0 views
