    Good stuff - Isn't it a bigger challenge for impulse categories/FMCG to measure the RoI for social media spend than it is for more functional/"higher involvement" purchases like cars or for that matter "big skinny" ? Any thoughts, anyone ?

    I would agree that it is more difficult to track ROI on FMCG products social media campaigns but no more difficult than tracking the ROI of sales driven away from ecommerce. When there is a direct click through purchase, we are able to logically calculate an ROI but when you start trying to valuate how a campaign increases foot-traffic or brand equity, your ROI becomes more speculative.

This is a story from 60 minutes about how officers are using new tactics to catch gang members. If you look at page three in the article you will see how the enforcement agency is adapting to collecting and analyzing data to fight crime. Quote from the article "Parker had his students with their computer smarts develop software for intelligence collection. With it, the troopers are building a database of gang members." "And use the information to make maps of the gangs' social networks - who they know and who they associate with."     JP - very interesting article! It will be interesting if networks look to actually focus their attention to this metric vs. the traditional TV ratings metric, which I believe only focuses on a sample audience. You would have to think that Neilson's Twitter Rating system would provide much more accurate and timely results.
