With Academic Commons, we seek to form a community of faculty, academic technologists, librarians, administrators, and other academic professionals who will help create a comprehensive web resource focused on liberal arts education.

Academic Exchange Quarterly, begun ten years ago as a traditional publishing print-format journal with key editors from the same college, will celebrate its 10th anniversary in Fall 2007. Currently, articles from Academic Exchange Quarterly are available in four formats: print, online, digital, and HTML version.

The American Councils Advanced Russian Language and Area Studies Program (RLASP) serves both graduate and undergraduate students. The academic program is designed to improve participants' oral, listening, reading, and writing proficiency in Russian language and to develop their knowledge of Russian history, politics, culture, and society. The academic year, semester, and summer programs provide approximately twenty hours per week of in-class instruction in Russian grammar, phonetics, conversation, and cultural studies at Moscow International University, the Russian State Pedagogical University (Gertsen Institute) in St. Petersburg, and the KORA Center for Russian Language in Vladimir. One day per week of the academic program is set aside for local cultural excursions.

The Michigan Corpus Linguistics team consists of researchers and students at the University of Michigan (U-M) English Language Institute (ELI). We create corpora of spoken and written academic English, provide corpus-based materials for EAP (English for Academic Purposes) teaching, and carry out research in different areas of corpus linguistics. On our website you find information about the corpora we make available, the projects we work on, and the training we provide to ELI visiting scholars and University of Michigan students.

SASLI offers elementary and intermediate levels of modern South Asian languages, as well as Sanskrit. SASLI prepares students for subsequent training domestically and abroad. SASLI is currently held on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Students may only register for one language per summer. This 8-week program offers the equivalent of two full semesters of academic study.

The National Association of Self-Instructional Language Programs (NASILP) is North America's only professional organization specifically established for the fostering of self-managed academic programs in the less-commonly taught languages (LCTLs).

"Since 2004, the annual ECAR Study of Undergraduate Students and Information Technology has sought to shed light on how information technology affects the college experience. We ask students about the technology they own and how they use it in and out of their academic world. We gather information about how skilled students believe they are with technologies; how they perceive technology is affecting their learning experience; and their preferences for IT in courses. The ECAR Study of Undergraduate Students and Information Technology, 2009 is a longitudinal extension of the 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008 studies. It is based on quantitative data from a spring 2009 survey of 30,616 freshmen and seniors at 103 four-year institutions and students at 12 two-year institutions; student focus groups that included input from 62 students at 4 institutions; and review of qualitative data from written responses to open-ended questions. In addition to studying student ownership, experience, behaviors, preferences, and skills with respect to information technologies, the 2009 study also includes a special focus on student ownership and use of Internet-capable handheld devices."

The International Journal of Virtual and Personal Learning Environments (official publication of Information Resource Management Association) provides readers with comprehensive coverage of developments in learning technologies for an international readership of educators, technologists and trainers. The journal is a primary source for academics, professionals, corporate trainers and policy makers in information and communication technologies. The journal publishes high quality contributions (papers, book reviews) on a range of fields associated with Course Management Systems (CMS), Learning Management Systems (LMS), Virtual Learning Environments (VLE), Social Networking Sites (SNS), Personalized Learning Environments (PLE), and 3D virtual worlds, including for example Second Life (SL).

"The Canadian Association for Japanese Language Education (CAJLE), established in Toronto in June 1988, actively promotes Japanese language education in Canada. We operate a variety of activities including an annual conference, lectures, workshops, and the publication of academic journals and newsletters."

"CorpusLAB is a new FREE site for language learners and language teachers. CorpusLAB is designed to promote language learning based on real English used in different settings. Students can use the site to take a variety of exercises created by teachers. Go to the Student pages and select a topic area (phrasal verbs, Academic English etc.). If you register, you will be able to keep track of your progress. Teachers can use the site in different ways. The central engine of the site is a series of exercise authoring tools. The exercises, which include fill-the-gap, multiple-choice, matching, reorder, and categorise, are designed in a way that promotes the learning of collocations and phrasal patterns. For example, the matching exercise allows up to five columns of items rather than the usual two. One of the aims of the site is to build up resources for specialised English: Medical English, English for Tourism, and so on. "

The goal of the eLanguage Project is to effectively utilize modern, web-based publishing technologies in order to provide researchers in the the academic discipline of Linguistics with a platform for the management of peer-reviewed, open-access electronic journals.

The Foreign Language Teaching Forum is an integrated service for FL teachers. Resources include this WWW site, the email LISTSERV Academic Discussion List (FLTEACH@listserv.buffalo.edu), list archives, and the FLNews server at the State University of New York College at Cortland. FLTEACH was founded in February 1994 and runs on a computer at SUNY Buffalo. The moderators, Jean LeLoup & Bob Ponterio, both teach at SUNY Cortland. Our broad topic is foreign language teaching methods for all levels and all languages. Specific areas of discussion include school/college articulation, training of student teachers, classroom activities, curriculum, and syllabus design. Students in teacher training programs, teachers both new and experienced, administrators, and other professionals interested in any aspect of foreign language teaching are invited to participate in our discussions.
