The Mathematics Word Wall was developed by Michele S. Weiner, Regional Center  II Instructional Supervisor. Teachers  who attended Regional Center II's  mathematics inservices received their own copy.  There have been additional  requests from teachers, who did not attend, to receive a copy. Therefore, we have  attached a copy of the Mathematics Word Wall to be used as a resource in the  classroom.  

Why use Web 2.0 tools in science and math classes? The primary reason is they facilitate access to input and interaction with content through reading, writing, listening, and speaking. These tools offer enormous advantages for science and math teachers, in terms of helping their students learn using Web 2.0 tools. For example: * Most of these tools can be edited from any computer connected to the Internet. Teachers can add, edit and delete information even during class time. * Students learn how to use these tools for academic purposes and, at the same time, can transfer their use to their personal lives and future professional careers. * RSS feeds allow students to access all the desired research information on one page. * Students learn to be autonomous in their learning process.

Tips and tricks for the iPod Touch are needed to assist teachers in making the process easier when using this digital device for teaching and learning. As these digital devices become more widespread in classrooms, the need for more efficient use of these tools is coming to the forefront. This evolutionary course of action is resulting in more efficient and time saving strategies. The purpose of these 10 tips and tricks is to provide teachers, both novice and experienced, with features and applications (apps) designed to make an iPod Touch's functions easier to use. These features and apps offer the ability to customize this device to resolve management issues and integrate efficiently with other digital devices, such as a Mac laptop.

Math teacher and researcher Tom O'Brien offers resources and activities through this site, with planned updates each month to add more materials. These include books published by the UK's Association of Teachers of Mathematics--some out of print --now downloadable and available for purchase. Excerpts from the e-books are available free, as well as three articles by O'Brien and colleagues. O'Brien recommends software as well, some of which is available free of charge.

What does it mean to be a successful science or math teacher? The definition of success is an elusive thing and measured in many ways. Merriam-Webster dictionary defines success as - resulting in or gaining a favorable outcome. This, without a doubt, is your and every other teacher's goal for their students.

The Middle School Mathematics Institute (msmi 2010) will be held in Saint Paul, MN June 14 - June 18, 2010. This event is for teachers in grades 4 - 8. The institute is a 5 day course, where middle school teachers will learn the mathematics behind the math they teach. This year the subject is fractions, decimals, and percentages.

The list of teachers and student knowledge, skills, and dispositions was initially generated by teachers and administrators from Rockland County BOCES who explored a number of resources and references on 21st learning. A framework is provided for making connections between everyday math problem and solving real world math problems. Connections are made regarding project based learning for teachers new to the process, along with recommendations for teachers who are veterans of project based learning.

The following is a common question heard around teacher workrooms, teacher lunchrooms, faculty meetings, and science or math conferences. "Why use web 2.0 tools when teaching science or math?" The answer is both simple and complex at the same time.

Both wikis and blogs provide teachers with a a dynamic process for integrating Web 2.0 technology in their science and math classes. These two types of online tools offer students a more engaging process for learning. Both are relatively easy tools which do not require teachers or students to learn any special program tools or computer skills. Their uses and applications are only limited by the vision and purpose for helping students learn.

"This model for learning mathematics may be quite different from what teachers experienced themselves in the past where classrooms were less interactive, filled with little activity and conversation. Teachers were generally in control, directing all aspects of what was to be learned; different points of view and approaches seldom brought to the surface new ideas and insights and a high degree of redundancy meant that everybody learned the exact same thing at the exact same time.

The aim of SAIDE ACEMaths project was to pilot a collaborative process for the selection, adaptation and use of OER materials for teacher education programmes in South Africa. Over a period of two years we adapted, piloted and revised a set of materials on the teaching and learning of maths for teacher education. Maths Solutions features experienced teachers demonstrating solutions to a series of maths problems that are known to challenge students. The solutions are presented as a series of short video clips displayed on the screen in a step-by-step format; in the same way as a teacher writing on a page or whiteboard. Math Central is an Internet service for mathematics students and teachers. It is available in English, French, and Spanish. GeoGebra: Do the Math is a series of screencast tutorials for teachers and/or students. The tutorials were initiated as a project to support Maine math teachers in the integration of technology in the classroom. What is GeoGebra provides an overview of the program and its capabilities. Several tutorials present the program's menu options and tools in step-by-step format. Another group of tutorials provides examples of GeoGebra learning activities in major math content areas. These tutorials are intended as a visual supplement to printed guides and documentation. GeoGebra users can find a wealth of guidance and examples at www.geogebra.org. A web search such as "GeoGebra Pythagorean Theorem" will yield hundreds of additional articles, examples, and applets.
