Shifting responsibility by taking responsibility | Harold Jarche - 0 views

  •
Harold Jarche continues to rock my world! October 21, 2013 How do we keep an informed citizenry when we are already choosing TV news sources that affirm our existing points of view? His post began to worry me until I saw that it was ultimately a plug for his PKM workshop. Excerpt: With the consolidation of web media companies, where many, and soon, most of us will be getting our information, it will be increasingly important to build diversity into our own personal and professional learning networks. This may get difficult as more mainstream sites amalgamate their feeds and sources into something similar to Googlezon. Therefore, in this emerging network era, we will need to connect to other people, not centralized information sources, for our own sense-making. Diversity of people in our networks will ensure diversity of thought. This is something that even web media companies cannot control, as long as we maintain control over who we connect to.

Taking Charge of your own Development | Harold Jarche - 0 views

Interesting and accurate summary IMO by Rob Paterson of how work, jobs, and taking charge of your own professional development are changing. Either they have been listening to us, or more likely, we have been reading them! :-) Offers an e-book for $2.99 titled You Don't Need a Job, You Need a Trust Network by Robert Paterson

2 minute video on why Connected Learning is critical. While it's oriented to "younger" learners, and how learning needs to change for them, the principles apply just as compellingly for working adults far removed from their high school and college education eras. It's the world that's changed (s_____d!)...and we need to change with it.

Feminist professors create an alternative to MOOCs | Inside Higher Ed - 0 views

  •
Great article on DOCC (distributed open collaborative course) by Scott Jaschik, August 19, 2013, that helps inform/substantiate in a small way the Studio Learning Labs model of learning? ""A DOCC is different from a MOOC in that it doesn't deliver a centralized singular syllabus to all the participants. Rather it organizes around a central topic," Balsamo said. "It recognizes that, based on deep feminist pedagogical commitments, expertise is distributed throughout all the participants in a learning activity," and does not just reside with one or two individuals."

Great resource by Idealware for nonprofits to use to use social media well for different purposes such as events, outreach, volunteer recruitment, etc. Oddly, professional development or learning by staff/volunteers/across organizational boundaries is not mentioned. Wonder if we should reach out to Idealware's authors to discuss adding another section to guide next year?

Some of these would work with adults online, too.
