Teachers' Technology Integration Matrix - 1 views

    This Matrix is divided into 5 "independent characteristics of meaningful learning environments" namely: active, collaborative, constructive, authentic, and goal directed. Each of these categories is aligned with five levels of technology integration in education, the total sum of which is 25 cells. And according to Arizona K12 Centre, "Within each cell of the Matrix one will find two lessons plans with a short video of the lesson. Each lesson is designed to show the integration of technology in instruction and classrooms as well as the Arizona Educational Technology Standards."

    While I was reading DBR, ''Forum theatre'' always came to my mind whether they resemble or not.After a quick search, i found that study.It is DBR.''It is understood as developing, testing,investigating, and refining learning environment designs and theoretical constructs, such as the pedagogical models that support learning and illustrate and predict how learning occurs.'' The data were collected through questionnaires.They used TML model(Teaching meaningful learning,you can see the table of it)According to the students, the video-supported forum-theater promoted most clearly the collaborative, co-operational,and conversational characteristics of meaningful learning.More,results suggest many refinements for Drama courses.

    Punya Mishra is a professor of educational technology and director of the Master of Arts in Educational Technology program. He is nationally and internationally recognized for his work on the theoretical, cognitive and social aspects related to the design and use of computer-based learning environments. He has worked extensively in the area of technology integration in teacher education which led to the development (in collaboration with M. J. Koehler) of the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework, which has been described as "the most significant advancement in the area of technology integration in the past 25 years." He has received over $4 million in grants, published over 45 articles and book chapters and edited two books. Dr. Mishra is an award-winning instructor who teaches courses at both the masters and doctoral levels in the areas of educational technology, design and creativity. He is a gifted, creative and engaging public speaker, having made multiple keynote and invited presentations for associations and conferences nationally and internationally.
    My dream is to work with him and Ann Thompson and also taking TPACK badge.:)

    Adopting a design-based research methodology, this study used digital video technology to support reflective tasks for language learning in multimedia environments. The emphasis was on the improvement of oral communication skills. The reflective tasks used in this study were exposed to iterative design process and the whole research process was driven by two underlying learning theories. This iterative and theory driven design reflects the nature of DBR well.

    Hi Yasin, thanks for sharing the research study. It is a good example for DBR, like you said, as it includes a theory driven iterative process which is one of the most fundamental characteristics of DBR.

    Is there ant iteration in the design here? Or is it the implementation of three different courses?

    Hocam, students' reflective practice happened in different formats each year. To be more specific, task-completion tools and task-completion formats were exposed to an iterative design. Each year a different tool and a format were implemented and the reflection by the students progressed in an iterative way though it was conducted with different classes. For example, in 2006, students of Class 1 reviewed their presentations in a multimedia player and reflected on it via a word-processing program. In 2008, YouTube was used for their presentations and they had a collaborative reflective task after being paired with each other. So, a different design was applied for each year but in an iterative fashion.

    A video in which there is an example of how TPACK is used in hands on context in learning of Biology and Maths. Possum magic' demonstrates the key elements of TPACK in a hands-on learning context. Students at Pallara State School in Queensland monitor possum activity using 24 hour surveillance cameras linked to their classroom computers. They learn Science, Biology and Maths content through this project. Pedagogical knowledge, content knowledge and technological knowledge are embedded and integrated in an authentic deep learning collaboration.
