January 1st, 2012 marked the public launch of Assistive Technology Daily, a blog dedicated to sharing assistive technology solutions.

This is a place to find other Daily 5 folks that you might want to connect with. You may want to find another teacher working with a similar grade level or maybe you would like to connect your classes. I know we have members who have written collaborative stories together, follow each other's blogs and twitter accounts, and who use Skype for Read to Someone globally. You can use the Comments column to add any extra information.

It can be difficult at first to shift from thinking about AAC in pre-programmed phrases and sentences and activity based pages to focusing on using core words. Once the shift is made; however, it becomes easy to look at using core words in natural, everyday occurrences as core words make up 75-80% of everyone's daily, natural language. Listed below are daily activities that typically occur in a classroom and ways to use core words during these activities at the one-word, two-word, and three-word level to help get the thinking process started. Notice how many of the core words and phrases can be used throughout the day in various situations and activities.

Their website provides a wealth of free downloadable games and activities designed to provide fun communication opportunities.

While this informatation is hosted on the Dynavox site, there are pdfs, websites, and videos that may be generally useful when seeking communication solutions. be sure to check out the AAC Needs Assessment, accessed by doing a search on the posted link. The Implementation Toolkit was designed for you! It provides hundreds of real-life resources and examples that promote successful communication in daily life using AAC. Use the resources for your personal growth or to train others. The resources found in the Toolkit cover topics related to AAC, its users and the people who support them.
