Pachyderm Services - 2 views

Pachyderm is an easy-to-use multimedia authoring tool. Designed for people with little multimedia experience, Pachyderm is accessed through a web browser and is as easy to use as filling out a web form. Authors upload their own media (images, audio clips, and short video segments) and place them into pre-designed templates, which can play video and audio, link to other templates, zoom in on images, and more. Once the templates have been completed and linked together, the presentation is published and can then be downloaded and placed on the author's website or on a CD or DVD ROM. Authors may also leave their presentations on the Pachyderm server and link directly to them there. The result is an attractive, interactive Flash-based multimedia presentation.

Mendeley (2.0 tool) - 0 views

  •
Mendeley is both a (free) reference manager and an "academic social network." Users can import papers they are using for research, highlight, annotate, and tag them. Mendeley will provide an appropriately formatted citation for the paper. Additionally, users can search the citations (and descriptions) of papers that others have contributed to Mendeley, as well as creating and joining groups with like-minded researchers.

I am into my work because the following excerpt says so much to me..."goal state is initially only partially described" (every time!); the need to "scaffold the work of leaders" while "making a more improvisational style of collaboration possible". These phrases express truth and learning goals for me. "Her research on leadership in creative collaboration online explores how people can collaborate across distance on projects where the goal state is initially only partially described. Amy and her students are creating tools both to support existing creative collaborative practice by scaffolding the work of leaders, and also to try to transform that practice by making a more improvisational style of collaboration possible."

Reflecting on the "Narrating Your Work" Experiment - 1 views

  •
Posted by Hans de Zwart to his blog, Technology as a Solution..., July 19, 2011. de Zwart conducted an experiment with his virtual team (18 people) asking them to "narrate their work," using the microblogging tool Yammer. He tried to make the rules as easy as possible, so there was no requirement on how frequently they blogged, etc. At the end, he conducted a survey, which is summarized in this post. I strongly recommend reading the original post as well (link in 1st paragraph).
  •
Is this the equivalent of our "Rants and Raves" or coffee klatch? Would microblogging seem less onerous a task, so that we might do it more frequently? Is this the "killer app" for project management?

vizualize.me - 0 views

  •
On the topic of data visualization, this tool enables users to build a "visualization" of their resumes.
  •
I think that this is an interesting idea, though I'm not sure that the few samples (created by employees) take the visualization concept far enough. I wonder if/how we could create a data visualization resume to reflect the 10-year experience of KPI.
