"Technology enhanced learning (TEL) aims to design, develop and test socio-technical innovations that will support and enhance learning practices of both individuals and organisations. It is therefore an application domain that generally covers technologies that support all forms of teaching and learning activities. Since information retrieval (in terms of searching for relevant learning resources to support teachers or learners) is a pivotal activity in TEL, the deployment of recommender systems has attracted increased interest. This chapter attempts to provide an introduction to recommender systems for TEL settings, as well as to highlight their particularities compared to recommender systems for other application domains. "

eduTecher is a great place to look at new educational technologies, or to find just the right technology to do a job (e.g. document collaboration or word clouds). Each tool is reviewed by the staff, and users can search the database various ways. While many tools have a K-12 focus, there are plenty that would be useful in postsecondary education as well.

With the tagline "search, recommend, collaborate, remix," Folksemantic claims over 110,000 OERs. The product was developed for the Center for Open and Sustainable Learning. At the current time (Sept 2010), they are asking for help evaluating their recommender tool.

Carrot2 is open source code that enables search results clustering based on two "document clustering algorithms." The site provides downloads of the code, as well as documentation and a forum for coders.

Mendeley is both a (free) reference manager and an "academic social network." Users can import papers they are using for research, highlight, annotate, and tag them. Mendeley will provide an appropriately formatted citation for the paper. Additionally, users can search the citations (and descriptions) of papers that others have contributed to Mendeley, as well as creating and joining groups with like-minded researchers.

Provided by Futurelab, Education Eye "brings you a wide range of exciting, relevant and useful innovations which are selected from the best of the web and updated daily." (from About page). At first blush, the site might seem tricky to navigate, but it is loaded with interesting ideas. Entries are color-coded (key is on the left), and you can also search for specific terms.

Open Access journals are freely available on the web. Like other scholarly journals, some are peer-reviewed and others are not. This directory, published by Lund University Libraries (Sweden) helps users to navigate nearly 7000 journals, over 3000 searchable at article level (as of 8/2/11).

This site might be helpful for searches as you conduct your own scholarly research, and also as you consider publishing research.
