Overview: The purpose of this website is to provide historical information about the legacy of the U.S. Navy. The audience for this website is anybody interested in learning about the history of the U.S. Navy. The available resources of this website include a list of different research topics, education programs, and various highlights of significant naval events/topics. This website is an effective informational website. It is not the most attractive site, but the vast information/resources within it make it worth visiting. Content: At first look, it is clear where one is. There is a graphic for the website and a quick scroll down shows various topics regarding the U.S. Navy. The information in this website is clear and useful. Many topics are available for research and for those with an interest in the U.S. Navy. The only downside to the site is that no revision dates are provided. The quality of information is great. With or without prior knowledge of some topics, the information is accurate and easy to understand. There are other additional resources provided as well. Design: While the design is not the most attractive, it does serve a clear purpose. Sponsors are identified under the "Support Us" tab and links to their sites are provided. This site is very efficient in that it is easy to navigate. In just a couple clicks, one can find the information they need. Internal and external links to graphics and multimedia are provided in the site. The site also uses the same format throughout the site, also making it easy to navigate.

Mandy Toll 9/11/11 Overview: I thought that this website was very useful in finding more information on presidents of the United States. This website's audience is mainly teachers who are looking for lesson plans on U.S. presidents. It tells you information about where the presidents are born with a lesson plan to teach students in grades third through fifth. It also tells you when they were presidents and how long they were. At the top of the page there are also other lesson plans on social studies units that you can choose from the drop down and also choose your grade level that the lesson plan is geared toward. I thought that this website was very easy to use and that it would be good for other lesson plans in the future for other social studies subjects because there are a lot of resources available on the website. Content: This website from National Geographic is easy to tell the content and audience of the site. Because it has lesson plans its audience is more likely teachers who are looking for lesson plans on the U.S. presidents. The information on the site is up to date and has material on it that is appropriate for learning more about presidents. The links to other sites are current and work well. The other lesson plans on the page for other social studies units also work well. The information on the website is well organized and easy to understand. The information on the website is also accurate and consistent with similar information in other sources. There are many links to other sites that have to do with the U.S. presidents from this website to help you further your knowledge and gain more information for doing a lesson plan on presidents. Design: I thought that the website was not very attractive however there are images and other things to engage you and let you know what the website is about. The website is intended for teachers and students who are looking for more information on President Lincoln. There are educational games for students to learn more about Abraham Lincoln, links to information on other U.S. presidents, the Gettysburg Address, famous quotations from Lincoln and many other informational things about Abraham Lincoln. Within the site there are a lot of links to other pages to further your knowledge about U.S. presidents but mostly Lincoln. I thought that this website was useful in allowing you to find information on Lincoln and would be suitable for students to use as well as teachers when learning more about Abraham Lincoln. Content: There was a lot of good content to this website. There are a lot of different links to allow both students and teachers to gain more knowledge on Abraham Lincoln and some information on other U.S. presidents. It is easy to tell what the website has to offer and who the audience is. The information is up to date and is appropriate for finding information on Abraham Lincoln. The links on the page to other sites are current and work well. The information on the site is for finding more information on Lincoln and games for students to play to gain more knowledge on the president among other things about Abraham Lincoln. Purpose:The purpose of this website is to give students from kindergarten all the way to the 12th grade and parents and teachers information about the United States of America. The information ranges from how the government works, U.S. documents, and differences in state and national government. To me I think this is a great website, it has information for all ages and the information is very age appropriate and covers all aspects of American government, even though the information is not extremely  in depth it covers all the surface points that give a great understanding of government.Content:The information in this website is very thorough, and it all is very credible. The website was made as a service of the Superintendent of document of the U.S. government. The information is very vast and is focused on different age groups. The information covers basics; such as the flag, the national anthem, and what simple things in our government means. Then goes in depth about the processes that each department of government has and the importance in which they serve.  The content is very well organized in which there are main categories of information in which each category has many sub-categories with further information.  Overall I would give this website an A in contentDesign:The design of this website is also very good. The home page starts with the age in which the information is set. Then there are categories that direct you to further information about specifics in each category.  The information is clearly labeled and directs to easily find the information needed. There are also fun interactive games that allow the students to learn in a different way.

There are a lot of reliable resources on the website to allow you to get more information on presidents. My overall impression of the website was that it was easy to use and very useful for the information I was looking for. I think that students and teachers will easily be able to use the site and it is easy to find more information by asking the ipl2 librarian from the button shown on the website. Content: It was easy to find the content of the website and who the website is intended for. On this website there was a lot of information on the author of the site and the sponsor of the site. There is also a button you can click to ask questions to gain more information about the topic you are researching. The information on the presidents from this website is updated to the most recent president. The links on the site also are up to date and working properly. There is a lot of information on this site to inform the user about the president they are researching. The content overall was organized and appears to be well done and the information is accurate. Design: This website was easy to use do to its design. The website looks attractive and you can easily tell what the website is trying to inform you about. This website is easy to navigate. All the links on the website are helpful and give you more information on the U.S. presidents. The only thing that this website did not have was graphics and videos which might have made it a little more exciting. All of the information on this site is easy to find and

Overview: The purpose for exploring this website is to obtain resources to help students look at U.S. history more objectively. The audience that this website is aiming at is teachers of middle/high school U.S. history courses. The available resources of this website are various historical subjects ranging from colonization to the 21st century; and a vast library of U.S. historical themes (e.g. slavery, civil rights movements, etc...). This website does a great job of supplying sufficient information while presenting itself in an appealing way. There numerous links and PDF documents that relate to the specific content area being looked at. Its design is very appealing and is also well organized. It is easy and quick to find information on the website as well. Content: One of the best things that this website accomplishes is its coverage of topics from colonization to the 21st century. Each section has numerous PDF's and/or websites that teachers can use to help teach that content area. Information about the authors/sponsors are readily available under the "About" section. The thing that this website lacks, however, is the revision history; there is only a copyright year. Overall, the website achieves its purpose of giving teachers the tools to help students learn about U.S. history more objectively. Design: This website has a very appealing design to it. Not only does it look nice, but visitors know exactly where they are once the home page loads. The site has an effective layout; the audience only has to click a couple times to get to the information that they need. The downside to the design of the website is the use of multimedia. There is little to no use of graphics, audio, and/or video. The overall design, though, makes this website worth visiting again in the future.

Overview: The purpose of this site is to educate kids about the U.S. Government. On the home page it asks for a specific audience in which you belong to: K-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9-12. My impression of this site is that it is kid oriented, fun and educational to use, and also easy to navigate. It is a Government website and was updated last in May 2010, and then February of 2009. I focused on the 3-5 grader part of the website Content: The content is fun and informational about our Government. The information is cut up into different sections and aspects of the Government, from "Our Nation" to "Symbols of our Country" The content is fact driven but has a high value in my opinion because it also has games and activities. Design: The design of the site is very easy to follow and clearly states everything a student would need to know. The homepage is attractive and cartoon-like so it easily grabs the attention of the younger grades. The site is organized into different sections that are very focused on the different aspects of U.S. Government

Jamie Szallar Website Evaluation #1 9-1-2010 U.S. Department of Education www.ed.gov Overview The U.S. Department of Education website is extremely useful. I found the information to be current and correct. The site is easily explored and visually appealing. Overall I would highly recommend this site to anyone interested in education, teaching, or the United States public school systems. Content The content of this site is amazing. The information given covers a wide variety of topics related to the education field. Links to numerous educational sites, as well as other government sites, are easy to use and all beneficial to furthering the understanding of the site subject. The site is very well organized, subject headers make it easy to find what part of the site you are interested in exploring. Contact information is given for several government agencies, as well as other educational resources. Design The site has great eye appeal. A general theme follows the entire site, appropriate photos and emblems are add nicely. The home page does have a large amount of information on it, but is not cluttered to the point that it becomes difficult to navigate. This site is definitely worth visiting and would be valuable for a wide variety of visitors.

Dane Xavier Servantez 10/11/12 Overview: This website is very useful for students, teachers and parents who want to learn about the basics of health and safety. Some of the topics include chemical safety around the house, to drug abuse and nutritional value. This website is great because it comes with worksheets and advice for teachers and parents. Teaching health and safety isn't the funnest thing to learn in the first place, this website makes that fun for the students happen. The overall site is easy to navigate and deals with kids from K-5 and teens from grade 6-8. Content: The content of the page is exceptional, it is powered by USA.gov and has services from the Office of Citizen Services and Innovative Technologies which is part of the U.S. General Services Administration. There is a contact information link followed by the policies and privacy of the website. I assure you the information given is professional and current.  Design: The design of the page is not the most appealing page, but it gets the job done. The organization is not the best, its kind of random and everywhere. The links are all labeled in correct subjects, as are the pictures that are presented and the overall color is somewhat appealing. This website wont catch your attention right away, but it also wont drive you away either.

Overview: The purpose of this website is to give teachers tools to help engage student learning about U.S. history. The audience of this website is history teachers all the way from elementary school to high school. The available resources of this website are teaching materials for teachers, content about numerous historical topics, and a section about the best practices for teaching history. I like this website because not only does it offer history content to teach, it gives teachers tools to help engage students in the material. The quality of this material is high and is well organized and it is eye appealing to visitors. Content: At first look, visitors to the website are able to know where they are and it is made clear who the audience of the website is. The authors and sponsors of the website are made available and contact information is provided. The only negative point about this website is its information currency. There is no last revision date, only a copyright year. The quality of information is great. There are numerous links to sources about various historical events and there are links for each grade level as well. There are also quizzes on the website to help enhance student learning. Design: The speed of this website is high; the homepage downloads immediately. The main page is very appealing and the content is accessible from three different tabs on top of the page. The information regarding authors/sponsors is also accessible at the bottom of the page. The navigation of the site is good; however, there are no directions available to visitors for navigating the site. . The site is compatible with various browsers and the content of the website is well organized and is plentiful.

Overview: This website had a large choice of topics to choose from where a student could get quick facts or information on a subject. On the homepage all the different subjects ranging in alphabetical order from Art to Social studies could be researched by students. The site led to other sites that contained the information and all the secondary sites appeared to work fine. This would be a good starter website for teachers to send students to check out because they know for sure information will be correct because the site is operated by the US Government specifically for kids to use. The site was very navigator friendly which works for the benefit for both the student and teacher. No update was listed on the page was the only problem again. The website says on the bottom that it is a service from the Office of Citizen Services and Innovative Technologies, part of the U.S. General Services Administration Content: The content provided informational resources for students to use to do their research on a variety of topics. The website made it easy to find the different topics and the next link would take the student to another page that listed more specific content regarding the larger field of study. I focused on the kids part of the site but there was also more information for adults and teenagers. For the kids, they had three choices to pick from starting with learning stuff like information, playing games or watching information videos. Design: The design of the website was easy to follow. A bright background with slightly darker tabs made the page aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Three different tabs were listed for the kids section with learning stuff, playing games and watching information videos. The design of the site was easy to navigate and easy enough with navigation that kids in elementary school would not have a problem with it.

Not only does it inform its reader about what it is, but what people can do about it as well as how to prevent it. This website makes many resources available, as well as valuable knowledge that can be put to use almost immediately for anyone who reads this. The intended audience is the general public, not just someone who is researching this topic. This website relates all of its information to society, so it is relevant for anyone who has taken notice to cyber bullying. Overall, this website seems reliable, though it isn't perfect. It is the better of the two resources I reviewed. The issues are minor, and the overall combination of design as well as content is strong. Content: When first viewing this website, the user can determine the basic content of the site, as well as its intended audience. The specific author wasn't clearly identified, therefore the information about whomever wrote the information on this site isn't available or known by the users of this website. The sponsor was clearly identified, though, as this is a government site so it clearly states that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services sponsors this website. There is a link to the website for that specific department, where one can find more about the sponsor as well as how to contact them. The latest revision date wasn't listed, so it is unknown if the content is updated. The content is complete, well organized, and easy to understand. It is free of bias, as well as interactive. Kayla Rider January 23, 2010 Overview This site, I believe, is a very resourceful website. It is for those intended audiences looking for more information on Queen Elizabeth 1. This would be useful for any history course involved with the years of which she reigned, or any Shakespearean class. I have used this site many times throughout my collegiate career. It has some great information within it and is easy to move around in. Content The content of this website is as I afore mentioned. It allows you the choice of U.K. or U.S. English to follow along to. It gives you a table of contents to divide the history and story of Queen Elizabeth 1. This website has a vast amount of information about her and does not get boring. It has a section about the author, giving her credit for this website, and also letting the readers know if she is credible, which she does seem to be. It allows you to e-mail her with questions in the About the Site link. Overall, I believe it is a credible and reliable source to venture to. Design The design of the website is very appealing. It catches your eye at the moment you log into it. However, it doesn't over power the content of the site either. It allows for pictures within the text to help you follow along with the times in which Queen Elizabeth ruled. Overall it is very appealing and informational.

Cole Baumann January 24, 2010 This website helps teachers build their lesson plans and assists them to help the students. I could see this being a really good website for new teachers due to all of the lesson plan designs for any category of learning such as history, or mathematics, English, and literature. All subjects have different sections in the website showing how to make a lesson plan. For example, there is a lesson plan for a Kinesthetic, visual, and auditory method to teach students about the U.S. Constitution. I find this site to be very helpful for teachers that do not know how to teach a visual learner or a Kinesthetic or auditory learner. The website is very easy to navigate with a lot of fun little bits everywhere. There is a search bar in this website so that teachers can type in whatever they are looking for and find anything from how the Roman Empire fell to the book The Epic. There is also a whole section in this website devoted to video so if you are not much of a reader you can watch these videos and find new ways to teach in the classroom. This all helps teachers grow and become more successful in the classroom for the students. This website is good for any new teacher to learn how to finally develop lesson plans and be effective to all three ways of learning. Also, it could be good for teachers who want to teach the same thing, but they want to do it in new ways each year which keeps it fun and exciting for the students and the teacher. This website has many educational videos which is also very good for teachers to demonstrate other techniques of teaching.

This site has a lot of stuff going on in it. There are a lot of advertisements and just unneeded things in the website. The purpose of the site is to make life easier on teachers and help them in the classroom. The website is a little out of control and I would think this makes it hard to navigate. I had some problems figuring it out at first so I think students would struggle as well. Content: This is a website that is a little overwhelming when you first come in. There is a ton going on and you really don't know where to start. I would say it's a little hard to determine what exactly this website is used for at first. It's hard to tell if it's a teacher or a student website. The authors of the site are hard to find and the site is hard to navigate in its own right. You will click on one thing and it will take you on a little bit of a wild goose chase to find what you want if you ever do find what you are looking for. The links on the site work fine, but there are very few of them and most of them are distracting advertisements. I'm still not sure if this is supposed to be an educational site or if it is suppose to be for games. This site is hard to understand and I'm not sure this is a good site to send students to. Design: The website comes up very quickly, and is a fast site as far as downloading goes. However, when you get to the homepage you are confused from the start and you are overwhelmed with chaos. There is far too much on the homepage and it is like to much stimulus to know what to do next. I found it hard to navigate my way through the site. There are advertisements and it takes way too long to get to your desired destination. I think the graphics and animations are very hard to follow and take away from the site instead of enhancing it. David May 1/23/11 Fun site of games and entertainment. Educational to younger children. Overview: The website is filled with games and fun quizzes for younger children. The games look interesting, but they aren't filled with meaningful information for anyone with a mild understanding of history. The history information quiz is very basic such as who was the first president of the U.S. There are links to crafts and home activities. The website is for children and parents because the home activities and advertisements. Content: The audience is younger children which is clear by the bright colors and the fun game link pictures. Another hidden audience is the parents of the children that will be playing games on this website. This is shown through with the home craft projects and the advertisements for sandwich meats and other child oriented products. The website has a large copyrighted page and a large page of contact information with phone numbers as well as email addresses. Helping children learn is what the supposed site goal is with many advertisements of things that children would want. The clear owner of the site is Disney because the ads and the many links to other Disney sites and online stores on the links areas of the website. The site is very well put together to gain the attention of child and does a good job of entertaining them while hiding a bit of learning with it. Design: The site has wonderful appeal even older than grade school students get caught by this site. Everything is where it says it will be with wonderful smoothness and ease of use. Any type of additional information regarding the copyright, other links, and sponsor (which is Disney) is clearly identified with an entire page or more devoted to it. The site is very well put together and that is easily seen. The games and animations work very well and are quick to load. The games and animations will keep eyes locked on the screen for hours.

Kids.gov Michelle Petty, January 22, 2011 Overview: This website is aimed at students, ages K-8, and educators. For educators, it offers a wide range of information on topics from science, math, social studies, and health. It then access sites that are relevant to the topic selected and gives links to other sites on a variety of topics within each broad category. For students, it offers them a similar experience. They can go to social studies, and then pick current events, maps, natural history, U.S. studies and world studies depending on what they're studying. This site is great because it offers a variety of information under every category. It is easy to navigate and has very reliable and dependable sources to back its information. Content: The site is very easy to navigate; the top has tabs for students' breaking it down for grades k-5, grades 6-8, and educators. At the bottom of the homepage there is a link to an about us which gives information on the site, who maintains it and who provides the information. The Federal Citizen Information Center (FCIC) out of Pueblo, Colorado, maintains this site and if that weren't enough information it gives a link to the Pueblo site. This site is mainly links to other educational pages, but it is easy to understand and use. It is aimed at all educational branches, and provides educational sites as well as fun game sites. I would use this site in a classroom setting, because it is educational and easy to use. Design: The design of this website is pretty straightforward. It is basic which makes it easy for all ages to use, and all of the links lead to the site promised without advertisements popping up. There isn't a table of content, but it is broken down into such specific categories, that a table of contents is not necessary. That is what the purpose of this site is, to link you to other useful and educational websites. Overall Review: This website is easy to use, making it worthwhile. The information is presented clearly and simply making it easy to navigate from one link to the other. It also includes a navigation bar and a site map which are both very useful. The links have great information and do not take long to get to. There are no dead ends, and they bring you to what they say they will. This website is a great resource for finding educational sites. John Paul Evans May 18, 2011 shmoop.com is a wonderful and professionally designed website with many resources for educators. This review focuses on the US history portion of this website. Purpose: The websites purpose is to provide a planning aid to U.S. history teachers. It provides timelines, videos, guides and more for every year of American history. Most of it's resources are free but advanced resources such as quizes and advanced student work sheets to require a premium membership which is fairly affordable a $7 a year. Content: The best part of this site is it has a very large amount of unbiased, free content. It's content provides authors, citations, and dates, even for it's photos and video clips. Further, it provides great links for more in depth study on any given subject. The only downside is that a small portion of the website does require a membership. The membership content is always clearly defined and always for a specific and consistent purpose such as student worksheets. Design: The website provides a clear purpose and is designed professionally. It makes great use of photos, and videos while allowing access to them in a way that does not clutter the individual pages. It provides great search and sort features and most importantly everything is organized in a way that the content is found without hassle.

It is easy to navigate and offers sufficient information. Also, the links are up to date on the website.
