Skype in the classroom - Skype in the classroom - 2 views

  •
Skype in the classroom gives students and teachers a free and safe way to communicate with other students, educators, authors, or others who want to have input in the classroom!
  •
I didn't know this existed! As Skype accounts are so prevalent, I could see as a teacher using this to Skype with a sister classroom somewhere else in the country (or world!) for project collaboration. Also it would be useful for interacting with an 'expert' in the field somewhere, using their desktop or smartphone Skype app. Other possibilities are Facetime, Google Hangout, and Zoom, but I believe Skype is the easiest one to configure.

A safe place for you to add classes and share assignments and collaborate with student and staff. It has a Facebook feel
  •
Great way to get students started in organizing thoughts into words and posts. Excellent way to join and communicate with other teachers to share and collaborate with.
  •
Edmodo is a great resource. I have used it with my classes for 2 years. There is so much you can do with this site! I still haven't mastered everything that is available. It is also a great way to build your PLN by joining other groups. I love that it includes the ability to award badges. Kids are highly engaged with Edmodo and really enjoy posting to each other. I think this resource is equally shared between teachers and students, but even if you don't use it with your class, it is still a great way to connect with other educators around the world. Other than Facebook, which is less desirable because of the lack of teacher control, I am not aware of any similar resources for classroom teachers.

I like the teacher control I can have and the collaborative environment. The security and control that makes it good is also it's limitation in exposure to the outside world.

Skype is a tool that allows people to talk in a way that is similar to face to face.  This tool could be used in the classroom to become connected with other classrooms around the world.  Students would have the opportunity to learn about other cultures firsthand.

A blog by a teacher with a trove of free tech resources for educators to use in their classrooms. Some are already well known, but a few interesting, obscure ones as well for custom applications in your classroom.

This wiki provides educational tutorials and web 2.0 tools for me as an educator to use in my classroom and with my students.
  •
Ben - I also agree that this is a great site for educators to use with their students. I have looked through this site for different ideas of tools. I have found it to be most helpful in my search for things. I can see it being useful for both students and educators. I haven't found any other site that has different web 2.0 tools broken down into different categories.
  •
Holy cow this tool is awesome! There are so many tools listed that I have never herad of. Thank you so much for sharing this. This will be extremely useful when looking for new and engaging ways to enhance student learning. This tool could be used for teachers mainly, but if students are looking for a new way to present something, they could use it as a resource. I have seen similar "lists" of tools to use in the classroom, but none to this extent. Thanks for sharing! Do agree or disagree that the resource can be used efficiently in your own future classroom? Explain why or why not. Do you believe the resource is mostly for teacher use, student use, or both? Explain your perceptions constructively. Are you aware of any similar resources that should be considered? If so, what are those resources.

Abby - This looks like a nice teacher site. It's nice to read a quick blurb about what the sites are along with the rating. I liked that there was a section of the site to connect apps to common core standards. This could be very helpful and I appreciate that I can start with the standard (objective) and connect it to the technology. I think sometimes teachers start with a cool piece of tech and try to make it fit in their curriculum and it becomes more of a bell and whistle than a purposeful use of technology.
  •
Sarah I agree! I will admit that sometimes I see something so cool that I want to use, but am not sure it really fits.

A great site for younger kids, to get an idea for the size & characteristics of various marine species. Some of the most detailed visualizations available on the web...and the audio recordings are outstanding. This is a great site to display via a projector in a classroom...be sure to turn the speakers up!

Super Teacher Tools - 0 views

Classroom resource for games and management tools. This website provides very easy tools for creating seating charts, random name picker (think digital popsicle sticks) and random group maker. On the game side, easily create games like Jeopardy, Speed Match, and Who wants to be a millionaire. Save the links and use over and over. Highly motivating!

  •
I love it!! I like that parents and students can be alerted and no personal info is exchanged. Seems very easy to set up and use. Do you have experience using Remind101?
  •
Yes I do, my parents love it. I used to do more with a class website, but never had anyone read it. I figured, everyone now a days has cellphones I'd just send them messages that way. It's all anonymous so my personal info is safe. I just send quick messages about what's due or coming up.
  •
I've used this for a year. I have to say that the parents in my room are in love with it. I text out homework daily and misc. announcements.

Wiki that has videos made by students concerning different math topics.
  •
Abby - I really liked the fact that these videos were made by students. I feel sometimes that interests my students more when they see that other students have made it. I agree that this would be a very effective tool. I watched the video on the different shapes and thought it would have been nice to have shown my students that last month when we were working on geometry. I think the resource could be used by both teachers and students. Teachers could get ideas how to explain things or they could just have the students watch the videos. I usually use TeacherTube when looking for math videos.
  •
Good find Abby! I will definitely be able to use this in the classroom. This could help create a blended learning environment by providing students with videos created by other students, instead of the same voice and style from Khan Academy or myself. Do agree or disagree that the resource can be used efficiently in your own future sources that should be considered? If so, what are those resources. Teachers could use this to provide extra learning opportunities in the classroom as well. I have used YouTube to look for videos occasionally, as well as Khan Academy, but nothing made by students is typically found. Thanks again for this!
  •
If I were a teacher, I could definitely see using these in my classroom. Math can be so difficult for visual learners (like me!) so this makes the concepts a lot more accessible. Aside from YouTube and TeacherTube, I'm not aware of a similar dedicated resource to this.
  •
Wow. This is great! I'm going to try this out this fall! I can use this right away.
  •
I really like the fact these videos were made by students. Maybe if I am ambitious enough, I could have my students make videos to post on here!
