Super Teacher Tools - 0 views

  •
Classroom resource for games and management tools. This website provides very easy tools for creating seating charts, random name picker (think digital popsicle sticks) and random group maker. On the game side, easily create games like Jeopardy, Speed Match, and Who wants to be a millionaire. Save the links and use over and over. Highly motivating!

Kahoot! | Game-based blended learning & classroom response system - 1 views

  •
This is a web-based quiz type game that allows up to 30 students to respond to questions you made. The game only allows for multiple choice type questions. Players earn points based on speed and accuracy of their responses. This is a great tool for student engagement and reviewing terms/concepts in class.

Kenton - This looks like a fun site! I can see it motivating students. It reminds me somewhat of exittix.com. One thing I like about Kahoot! is the opportunity to have students be the creators of the quiz. One limitation is the multiple choice format. It would be hard to assess/practice higher order thinking skills through multiple choice questions in a literature class (which is what I taught).

This tool allows teachers to create review games, polls, and quizzes that students can access with cell phones. It turns the cell phone into a "buzzer" so that students can earn points by answering correctly and quickly. It posts the tops scores after every round which leads to some healthy competition.

Abby - This looks like a nice teacher site. It's nice to read a quick blurb about what the sites are along with the rating. I liked that there was a section of the site to connect apps to common core standards. This could be very helpful and I appreciate that I can start with the standard (objective) and connect it to the technology. I think sometimes teachers start with a cool piece of tech and try to make it fit in their curriculum and it becomes more of a bell and whistle than a purposeful use of technology.

Sarah I agree! I will admit that sometimes I see something so cool that I want to use, but am not sure it really fits.

Mission US | THIRTEEN - 0 views

This simulation has 3 chapters to it. It allows students to make decisions as if they were a person during that event. It has revolutionary war, civil war, and settling the west as missions. Students learn a great deal about the event while interacting with the characters and the primary sources. There is also a game functionality with it as well.

Cramberry: Create & study flash cards online - 1 views

  •
Create online flashcards for a class. You can share these with friends or colleagues.

I agree that these can be used in the classroom successfully. I have used something similar and have found success. Now, I am not sure what you teach but I think this would be best in a language classroom. That being said, it works in all settings. I like that this is primarily a student centered resource. Since students have to create their own flash card set they internalize the information. Finally, have you tried quizlet.com? It is a very similar resource that allows students to play different games with their sets. It too has an ipad app like cramberry which I like.
  •
I agree with Kenton - it is a great resource for students to use to learn information. What I like about this one is that you can search ready-made sets. But I like quizlet.com a lot better. It has interactive games to learn the words and can even write quizzes for the students to test their knowledge. I have used that for independent study of vocabulary words for novels. I couldn't write 30 different quizzes to assess their familiarity with the new words they chose for themselves, but on quizlet they can take a quiz and show me their score. It has apps from Apple and Android so students can use it from different devices. Also, it has a print option for students who don't have access to a smart phone or internet outside of school. I like that it gives them an active way to study and instant feedback on what they know and what they need to study still. Finally, it has class options so I could enter a set and share it easily with the students.

Scratch - Imagine, Program, Share - 0 views

  •
Scratch is a free programming language and online community where you can create your own interactive stories, games, and animations.
  •
One of the most popular resources for teaching basic programming. The platform is web based and simple enough to get started with that students would need little to know instruction to get started. The site offers many resources for teachers and students, and there is also a downloadable version to use when internet is not available.
