By the way, these example web-apps are meant to viewed fullscreen on the iPad, so after tapping their thumbnail images, tap the plus sign (+) in the Safari toolbar to add them to your homescreen as links. Then tap one of the created bookmark links on your homescreen, and the apps will open in fullscreen mode! iPhone Screen Replacement - Step by Step - 0 views

  •
One of the most complex repairs on an iPhone is a screen replacement repair, before you attempt this repair be sure to have sufficient time to complete the task, and have a clear working space for your iPhone and the replacement screen to sit in while working on them. For a replacement screen repair it is necessary to completely disassemble the iPhone, therefore I would suggest that prior to commencing the repair get a few small pieces of paper in order to label your parts, and I particular the origin of the screws. Label them as follows; Metal Back Screws, aluminum back case, and motherboard - lay them out on the workspace in this order with a small space between them for the other iPhone components and replacement screen to lie in.The tools and equipment required for this repair are; a case opener, a small Phillips screwdriver, a paperclip to eject the SIM tray and the iPhone replacement screen, once you have these to hand and the paper labels lined up. Be sure to have clean hands before starting the repair.

$10 iPad App Setup | My Hullabaloo - 21 views

"One question I seem to get a lot about the iPad is what apps do I recommend that are free. I am hearing from a lot of teachers that they have no way to add paid apps and thus are stuck trying to find free apps. My experience is that many free apps stink. They have many adds, require in app purchases to be useful, or are just junk. I tend to stay away from most free apps. So what are you to do if the district controls adding paid apps? My suggestion is to build relationships with the decision makers. Don't just ask for a bunch of apps, instead provide documentation and purpose for a few apps you would like to have. I know this process takes time and effort but if you can show the purpose and learning you have a much better chance. If you need lesson ideas I suggest checking out my Pinterest page, and three of my favorite Pinterest pages: iPadsammy, TechChef4u, and Sue Gorman. Look for apps and lesson ideas there and modify them to fit your standards and kids. If I was starting from scratch this is the $10 iPad app setup I would push for in my kindergarten classroom. (I will be posting a $20 setup later)"

Save and Transfer YouTube Videos to an iPad | iPad with Wes - 10 views

  •
"Sometimes, to teach a class, its can be helpful to save a local, temporary copy of a YouTube video to your computer and transfer it to an iPad. Then the iPad can play the video from its "Photo Roll" without being connected to the Internet. This is especially helpful in places where wifi Internet access to YouTube is not available. In this four minute tutorial, Wesley Fryer explains how to use the free website saveyoutube.com along with the $2 iPad application PhotoSync (and free desktop companion software) to do this."

"Today we launched the iPads in first grade. After several technical delays due to syncing issues, we launched a one-to-one, hands-on introduction this afternoon. My tech coordinator pushed-in to help with this lesson and it was wonderful to have two adults to provide support and also model appropriate iPad behaviors. My amazing tech coordinator taught students how to transport the iPad using a "table-top" carry, how to use a "butterfly touch" to interact with the screen and how to keep the device flat upon the table when working."

This wiki is intended to be a clearinghouse of applications, lessons ideas and experiences using the iPad in the classroom. The intention is that all apps listed have been tested and recommended by teachers using them. The Apps pages are generally created using google docs spreadsheets, feel free to update the wiki or the spreadsheets. (A link is provided on each page for the spreadsheets... at least the ones I've started working on...) At this point, as a high school science teacher, most of the apps I've recommended and investigated are geared to this level. Some can be used at any level. I invite you to add pages dedicated to your areas of interest and expertise if they are not already listed here. I would love to see a section on Literature and Language and Elementary Skills added to the wiki along with additions to any of the currently developed spreadsheets. It would also be sweet to share specific lessons or ideas for applications and activities.

AppleInsider | iPad now 97% of tablet traffic, eclipses iPhone, iOS remains mobile leader - 0 views

  •
" iPad now 97% of tablet traffic, eclipses iPhone, iOS remains mobile leader By Daniel Eran Dilger Published: 04:27 PM EST (01:27 PM PST) A new market research report notes that mobile devices now amount to almost 7 percent of all US web traffic, with Apple's iOS representing a 58.5 percent slice of all mobile traffic and the iPad now accounting for more traffic than iPhones. The growth of mobile devices has claimed a 6.8 percent chunk of US web traffic from conventional PCs, according to a new report by comScore. Of that segment, about two thirds of the traffic is from mobile phones and a remaining third is being generated by tablet users. The group notes that Apple's iPad now accounts for 97.2 percent of all tablet-originating web traffic, driving home the reality that competitors have not yet released a significant tablet competitor. Among iOS users, iPad now accounts for 46.8 percent of all traffic generated, making it now a more prolific tool than the iPhone for mobile web use, which represents 42.6 percent of iOS traffic. An increasingly important market segment The firm also outlined why the growth of tablet traffic is significant, noting that almost half of tablet owners have completed purchases using their tablet. "Tablet owners exhibited significant use of their devices throughout the entire online shopping process," comScore reported, "from doing the initial planning, conducting product and store research, making price comparisons, to finally transacting. In the past month, more than half of tablet owners looked up product or price information for a specific store (56 percent) and read customer ratings and reviews while on a tablet (54 percent)." The group added, "the incremental reach through mobile and connected devices should not be underestimated," pointing out that, "in August 2011, the additional mobile and connected device audience for Pandora accounted for more than half of their total cross-platform audience." Siri Acquisition Brings Apple Much Closer to the 'Knowledge Navigator' Concept - Mac Ru... - 4 views

  •
"In 1987, Apple produced a concept video demonstrating a future computer called the Knowledge Navigator. The tablet-like device offered the user a natural language interface, video conferencing, multi-touch display and access to a global network of information. Siri understands what you say, accomplishes tasks for you and adapts to your preferences over time.mSiri can help you find and plan things to do. While seemingly the product of an overactive imagination, Apple's recent acquisition of Siri brings Apple a lot closer to that vision than ever before. Siri reportedly was born from the CALO artificial intelligence project which sought to fulfill a call for a "a cognitive computer system should be able to learn from its experience, as well as by being advised." Apple's value in acquiring Siri appears to be focused on this personal assistance technology. "

Six Examples of iPad Integration in the 1:1 Classroom | Edutopia - 1 views

  • 6) Digital Literacy by Andy Marcinek (@AndyCinek on Twitter) Objective: Demonstrate what you have learned throughout this class. Consider the Google Zeitgeist 2011 video we watched prior to break. It should work as a demonstration of what you learned as opposed to a retelling of applications and ideas you learned. NOTE: I'm not looking for a PowerPoint presentation. Requirements: Creatively show what you have learned from the course. You may want to demonstrate how you will use these skills in the future. You may want to highlight one application or multiple applications that appeal to you. You may want to present on a specific subject such as digital health and wellness, digital identity, social media, privacy or creative commons. You may want to create something entirely new using the applications and ideas you gleaned from this course. You may want to create a movie trailer for this course. You may want to create a documentary about this course. Or, you may want to do something completely different. Grading: You will be graded on your ability to clearly demonstrate to an audience your learning over the past few weeks. I will be looking for the following items in your final work: Creativity Engagement Understanding Proficiency Presentation Participation (in class) Examples: Google Zeitgeist Video 2011 Educational Technology Course Projects from - Dr. Alec Couros Joe Sabia: The Technology of Storytelling Presentations and demonstrations will begin on January 11th and conclude on January 13th. "At Burlington High School in Burlington, MA, we are entering our eighth month of a 1:1 iPad initiative that began in September 2011. Don't get me wrong, we think the iPad is a great device for learning and gives each of our students a dynamic learning tool that can be used across the content areas and to accomplish a variety of tasks. Many of the critics claim that we are backing our students into a corner by giving them one brand and one skill set to learn exclusively on one device. This is not the case at Burlington. Furthermore, I have support. "

Apps in Education: 10 QR Readers for the iPad - 0 views

"Here are 10 QR readers for your iPad - all bar one for Free. QR Code scanners can be lots of fun in the classroom. We have used them to generate discussion around types of data, presented classroom information as well as presenting clues to treasure hunts. The treasure hunt idea is always a popular way to finish a unit of work. We normally use QR codes to give hints to the next clue or to the location of the clues. The students have to use the information from the unit of work to solve the clues along the way. Lots of fun, lots of laughs and lots of learning. "
