Siri Acquisition Brings Apple Much Closer to the 'Knowledge Navigator' Concept - Mac Ru... - 4 views

  •
"In 1987, Apple produced a concept video demonstrating a future computer called the Knowledge Navigator. The tablet-like device offered the user a natural language interface, video conferencing, multi-touch display and access to a global network of information. Siri understands what you say, accomplishes tasks for you and adapts to your preferences over time.mSiri can help you find and plan things to do.

While seemingly the product of an overactive imagination, Apple's recent acquisition of Siri brings Apple a lot closer to that vision than ever before. Siri reportedly was born from the CALO artificial intelligence project which sought to fulfill a call for a "a cognitive computer system should be able to learn from its experience, as well as by being advised."

Apple's value in acquiring Siri appears to be focused on this personal assistance technology. "

Siri is an excellent iPhone app that uses both text and voice to search for locations and much more information.

Mobile Libraries: Livestream Launches Free iPhone Service - 4 views

  •
"free service for streaming live to the iPhone and iPod Touch.
Using Livestream Procaster, users can stream live from their webcam, video camera or even broadcast their PC or Mac desktop. Livestream producers can start streaming live to the addressable iPhone and iPod Touch audience over 3G or Wi-Fi connections, with less than five minutes of setup. A key breakthrough is that the service doesn't require any proprietary player or application to be installed on the iPhone. Producers are free to integrate the iPhone live stream with their own website, iPhone portal or iPhone application using the API provided.
  •
Livestream is an excellent video streaming service similar to ustream.tv which now has a Procaster feature available for Macs with a new feature that alllows you to stream directly from your desktop to an iphone or ipodtouch! Very exciting new feature!

Prepare Yourself For iPod Video - washingtonpost.com - 0 views

  •
One of our sources in Asia say that Apple has placed an order for a massive number of camera modules of the type that they include in the iPhone. These are inexpensive cameras, in the $10 range. And the size of the order, our source says, means they can only be used for one thing - the iPods.
Update: Macrumors features two images of cases that are supposed to be designed for the upcoming iPod Touch and iPod Nano, and suggest that the next generation of said devices will indeed include a camera.
  •
What an exciting possibility! Looking forward to hearing more about this.

iPodNN | First Look: Find My iPhone - 0 views

  •
This looks like a valuable feature on the new iPhone OS 3.0. Getting ready to check it out. Has anyone tried it?
  •
One of the most anticipated features of the new iPhone OS 3.0 is the ability to find lost devices using Apple's MobileMe web service, which requires an annual fee. Find My iPhone plots the location of a missing phone on a map, allows users to flash a message on the screen and play an alert tone. If all else fails, the user can remotely erase any personal data on an iPhone.

T-Mobile Germany Banning Skype for iPhone - PC World - 0 views

  •
Sure glad we aren't having the problems they are having in Germany! I love the Skype iPhone app!
  •
at least we're better off than the folks in Germany, where the country's official provider, T-Mobile, wants to ban use of the Skype app on both its 3G network and its extensive Wi-Fi hot spot network.

Not only has T-Mobile said that the use of Skype is forbidden, but it's also declared its intent to cancel the contracts of any users who use workarounds to run the program anyway. The company's reasoning is that the program's high data use would choke the network infrastructure and that it violates the customer contract, prohibiting VoIP--a clause apparently used by all other German mobile service providers as well.

Skype for iPhone: It's official | Webware - CNET - 0 views

  •
Months after teasing us at CES with an announcement of Skype's native VoIP client for the iPhone, the free Skype for iPhone will finally be available to download from the iTunes App Store sometime on Tuesday. Calls on Skype for iPhone work only if you're in range of a Wi-Fi network, so your call quality will in part be at the mercy and strength of wireless networks nearby--calls will not work over the cell phone network on the iPhone (but chatting will.) Another imperfect, but still neat, feature is the ability to accept incoming conference calls. While you won't be able to initiate a call, we're told, you will be able to jump on one if a buddy invites you in.
  •
a little more detail about the new iPhone app for Skype coming out this week. Sounds very interesting!!

Gomeric Hill: My Latest Favorite Apps for iPhone - Part 2-Karen Montgomery - 0 views

  •
As I continue to explore new apps on my iPhone, I am striving to post about two types of apps each time: a game or fun app and one that is educational or increases productivity in some fashion. Also, I plan to highlight one free and one purchased app each time.
  •
Always great to find recommendations for iPhone apps from other educators. Liz Kolb mentioned Karen Montgomery in her recent radio show and Karen is sharing her favorites on her blog. Intrigued by Yummy which is a free bookmark manager that allows you to search Delicious and add/edit bookmarks from iPhone. Just wish it worked with Diigo too!

Recording video on the iPhone - Tips from The Kim Komando Radio Show® & Web site - 0 views

  •
Some good advice from Kim Komando re recording video on the iPhone. Sure hope an app is developed soon! I'm not willing to jailbreak my phone yet.
  •
The iPhone does not include a tool for recording video. The problem isn't that the iPhone isn't capable of recording video. It is. However, it does not include an application that will do it. Nor is there one in the App store. a number of developers are working on video recorders. In fact, you can download a video recording app online. Several are available. I strongly recommend that you avoid these apps, though. Why? The fact that they're not in Apple's App Store is a big clue. They're not approved by Apple. In order to install one, you must jailbreak your iPhone. Jailbreaking an iPhone replaces its firmware.

In order to install one, you must jailbreak your iPhone. Jailbreaking an iPhone replaces its firmware. It allows you to run unauthorized programs. I certainly don't recommend that you jailbreak your iPhone. Doing so will likely void your warranty.

Blog post by Wes Fryer on Dec. 7 re: concerns about hijacking iphone to be able to use video. Very helpful.
  •
I want/need my iPhone (without jailbreaking it) to support video-out functionality, not just for video/movie playback but also to show my active/current screen when selecting and using different applications. According to the Apple Support Article "iPod and iPhone: TV out support," the iPhone and iPod Touch just support "TV Out" currently. "TV out" functionality is available if you own an "Apple Composite AV Cable,"
