The Nerdy Teacher: Using My iPad in the Classroom This Year (Redux) #edchat - 12 views

"Two years ago today, I wrote a post about how I was going to use my iPad in the classroom. It was simply titled "Using My iPad in the Classroom This Year". To my surprise, it is my most visited post of all time with over 37,000 page views. That is about 20,000 more than my second most read post. I thought it would be fun to do an updated post having used the iPad in my class for two years. Now that I have a class set of iPads, the number of apps that I use or will be using has changed and I thought I would share that with everyone."

Learning and Sharing with Ms. Lirenman: Using an iPad in a Grade One Classroom - 7 views

"Since November I've had the privledge of teaching with an iPad in my grade one class. Along the way I have discovered a lot of great ways to use it to help my students have their individual learning needs met.  Having just one iPad did bring about its own set of challenges but we were very lucky to have access to some additional iPads in the final term of school.  Next year we will have  iPads again thanks in part to my participation in my school's successful innovative learning grant application and another special project I'm involved with at the school district level.  Needless to say my head has been spinning all summer with ways I can integrate this technology into my classroom with out loosing sight of the important non technology based teaching and learning my students need too."

$10 iPad App Setup | My Hullabaloo - 21 views

  •
"One question I seem to get a lot about the iPad is what apps do I recommend that are free. I am hearing from a lot of teachers that they have no way to add paid apps and thus are stuck trying to find free apps. My experience is that many free apps stink. They have many adds, require in app purchases to be useful, or are just junk. I tend to stay away from most free apps. So what are you to do if the district controls adding paid apps? My suggestion is to build relationships with the decision makers. Don't just ask for a bunch of apps, instead provide documentation and purpose for a few apps you would like to have. I know this process takes time and effort but if you can show the purpose and learning you have a much better chance. If you need lesson ideas I suggest checking out my Pinterest page, and three of my favorite Pinterest pages: iPadsammy, TechChef4u, and Sue Gorman. Look for apps and lesson ideas there and modify them to fit your standards and kids. If I was starting from scratch this is the $10 iPad app setup I would push for in my kindergarten classroom. (I will be posting a $20 setup later)"

The best note taking application: Review of the Notability note taking app for iPad - A... - 6 views

"As a graduate student, I use my iPad for taking notes in my classes. I have tried 3 different note taking aps and have found Notability to be my favorite for its functionality, note organization system, and ability to detect my stylus. I mostly use this app to take hand written notes using a stylus. My stylus of choice is the Bamboo from Wacom."

iPad vs. laptop Part 1 | Elementary School Tech Ideas - 5 views

"I believe that I have now gotten to the point of giving up my laptop (MacBook Pro) and just use my iPad 2 for everything that I do. My poor laptop has not left my desk for months, but how do I really get things done (like work) on my measly little iPad (16 GB model)?"

iPads in my classroom « Farmer's Class - 1 views

"My school was lucky enough to get a class set of iPads (unless you have a class with over 30 students), and I was lucky enough to be the one in charge of looking after them. Since I am the one in charge of them and the one who really pushed to get them, it seems necessary that I make the most out of these devices. To do this, I have made them a daily part of my grade 12 class, and am currently using them daily with my grade 9 and 10 locally developed class. It has been about three weeks since the start of the semester and the start of my use of iPads in the classroom so I thought I would take the time to reflect on them."

iPad productivity apps - Matt Gemmell - 6 views

"I'm very invested in the iPad as a laptop replacement, and I endeavour to make it my main machine when I'm away from my desk (at which I currently use an iMac). I travel regularly, often to speak at events, and I try to embrace simplicity and to work away from my office as much as I can. To that end, I've compiled a list of my essential iPad applications for productivity, that I use regularly when:"

My "Paperless" Classroom: Gadget of the Day: my Ipad 4 Ed App List - 4 views

"Since I act like I know what I am doing and I carry an Ipad, a number of parents, teachers and friends have asked me which apps I recommend. This list is really just an inventory of what is currently on my Ipad, for each app I will discuss why I have decided to keep it. There have been many apps that have cycled through my iTunes, but only the most useful and least annoying get to have a permanent home."

EdTechSandyK: Parent Concerns in a 1:1 iPad Initiative - 13 views

"Last Sunday, I received a note via the contact form on my blog that was a first for me in many ways. It was the first time I had ever been contacted by a parent via my blog, the first time I could not put a comment out of my mind until I had addressed it, and the first time I ever thought about the impact a school's 1:1 take-home technology initiative could have on a family."

Now half way through the school year, I've discovered more about engaging kids with learning apps. I wanted to configure it for her so she could get up and running, so I thought I would just change a few settings here or there and give it to her using my settings. The funny things is that I know nothing about music - just to prove that anyone can really rock the iPad if they know a few tricks. So here are the things that we covered today."
