Here's a brilliant blog with lots of different links to ICTs that can be used along with mini-tutorials. Of particular interest - the Soo Meta program that could be useful for the video part of the assignment!

37 Ways Teachers Should Use Pinterest - Best Colleges Online - 4 views

Pintrest is such a fantastic tool for any creative subject. the only problem is it is usually blocked in state schools. it can be unblocked through a process set by DETE and probably well worth the effort
  • Looking to liven up your classroom? There are tons of photos of great classroom setups, from kindergartens to high school that you can use for inspiration.
  • Do you find yourself jotting down ideas or bookmarking websites and then forgetting about them? Pinterest can help you keep these ideas organized and easy-to-find when you need them.

  • Pinterest can also be a great place to get students working. Teachers could have students pin ideas on a board that relate to a particular project they’ll be working on.
  • Of course, pinning itself could also be an educational experience. Students could have to pin items that fit a certain set of criteria as part of a lesson.
  • Whether you’re working with your colleagues or helping students to work on a group project, Pinterest can be a great place to collaborate. Share images for presentations or links to papers, resources, and research.

Building Parent-Teacher Relationships | Reading Rockets - 24 views

Page from the American Federation of Teachers describing the benefits and some approaches to building parent-teacher relationships. The artefact for assignment 1 is intended to be something that helps build a parent-teacher relationship.

Parent Benefits Positive parent-school communications benefit parents. The manner in which schools communicate and interact with parents affects the extent and quality of parents' home involvement with their children's learning. For example, schools that communicate bad news about student performance more often than recognizing students' excellence will discourage parent involvement by making parents feel they cannot effectively help their children.

Reading Rockets is a great resource, I remember using this for an assignment quite some time ago. Thanks for bringing it back to my attention.

Interesting take on ICT role in the Australian curriculum stating it should be separately assessed. This is a good point but I still feel it integrates across all learning areas and needs to be up to the teacher how they use ICT. I agree though that a subject teaching the skills and workings of ICT is a good idea and there does seem a huge variation as to how much ICT is used in the classroom. This article may be a bit dated (2011)....

I played the maths challenge Dragonbox, and was just going to spend a few minutes on this game but I found it fun to keep going and work out how to continue with the problems when I got stuck, until I understood the concept that the challenge was teaching. In a way I was trying to be creative in solving these problems along the way and was learning as well. This idea could be carried on outside the came creating my own idea of Algebra using everyday items. I think that when learning is taking place creativity and innovation are not far behind.
