I played the maths challenge Dragonbox, and was just going to spend a few minutes on this game but I found it fun to keep going and work out how to continue with the problems when I got stuck, until I understood the concept that the challenge was teaching. In a way I was trying to be creative in solving these problems along the way and was learning as well. This idea could be carried on outside the came creating my own idea of Algebra using everyday items. I think that when learning is taking place creativity and innovation are not far behind. Multiliterate Star Warians: The force of popular culture and ICT in early l...: EBSCOhost - 3 views

The abstract for this sounds interesting Can popular culture and information communication technologies (ICT) broaden early years' multiliteracies experiences? This paper presents a case study that begins with boys role-playing Star Wars action scenes at the commencement of the school year, and concludes with an end-of-year school community celebration of a new DVD Star Wars movie sequel, designed and performed by the boys. The Children's Star Wars Project was developed in a small Western Australian independent community school committed to the Reggio Emilia educational philosophy. The case study provides an exemplar of the integral relationship between early childhood pedagogy, multiliteracies metalanguage, and multimodal designs of meaning. Implications for educational research are that popular culture and ICT can be readily integrated with early childhood education (ECE) to broaden multiliteracies experiences. As shown in this case study, these experiences facilitate the achievement of The Early Years Learning Framework for Australia outcomes.

Conceptual Change - Emerging Perspectives on Learning, Teaching and Technology - 1 views
-
Teaching for conceptual change primarily involves 1) uncovering students' preconceptions about a particular topic or phenomenon and 2) using various techniques to help students change their conceptual framework
-
However, outside of school, students develop strong (mis)conceptions about a wide range of concepts related to non-scientific domains, such as how the government works, principles of economics, the utility of mathematics, the reasons for the Civil Rights movement, the nature of the writing process, and the purpose of the electoral college
-
Conceptual change is not only relevant to teaching in the content areas, but it is also applicable to the professional development of teachers and administrators
