  • It’s important to have a revenue strategy in place to ensure that your total CPA (cost per acquisition) remains as low as possible for all bookings. When it comes down to it, direct bookings are often the key to growing your revenue.
  • When your customers move online, you need to be there too. Hotels will always be brick-and-mortar establishments (at least until virtual reality gets much further along!), but they still need a strong, active online presence.
  • The internet is key to growth, and a direct booking strategy is the most cost efficient way to grow online.
  • ...5 more annotations...
  • Beyond the technical details, here are two tried-and-tested SEO strategies you can use for your hotel: Focus on link quality, not quantity
  • Look at your social channels.
  • Video marketing is key when it comes to mobile.
  • Social media creates a dialogue with your potential guests. Contests are popular among millennials, and vivid imagery in your posts will grab attention.
  • If guests are turning to the internet for all their travel needs – and many are – it’s time to use the internet to attract their interest and get your hotel more direct revenue.
  •
This article discusses the strategy of drive direct booking for attracting the millennial travelers. There have 5 key insights into the millennial market and the ways to gain the revenue for the hotels. The hotel has to learn how to drive direct bookings through technologies. Market trends are changing fast, especially in hospitality industry. Thus, the hotel owners need to focus on finding the strategy that can help themselves to gain the income. The big benefit of direct booking is hotels can pay less to maintain our own brand website than pay OTAs and other third parties. First of all, the internet is the key that can help the hotel growth the demand. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Millennials have overtaken Baby Boomers as the America's largest generation. Hotel owners have to know that 90% of millennials go online every day. Thus, we have to move our attention to online as well. Second, hotels can take advantage of search engines. Almost everyone would like to use the search engines every singer day. For example, "Just Google it" has become a common refrain for the younger people. No matter search hotels, restaurant or airplane tickets. That is the best way they must be used. Just like the article mentioned "hotels should focus on quality, not quantity" of their website. Third, mobile phone or smart phone, the best hotel for the Millennials, that must be the hotel can provide the best technology in order to help them to save times. For example, my favorite hotel in Las Vegas is Aria. They provide the smartphone check out and check in service. Customers would like to choose the online service in order to avoid the line. Last, video marketing and social media. I believe the video can attract customers rather than the pictures. The article mentions that "2016 is going to be the major year for video on mobile". For customers, social media is the best way to let them know the hotels better. They will read the feedback from other travelers.

Event Planning In The Hotel Of The Future - 1 views

  • Combining today’s recognizable technology, such as touchscreen and virtual reality, with concepts that are beyond our time, these are some of the notable features hotels in the future will have.
  • he idea of using robots could help break down the language barrier that is sometimes the case when planning in other countries as these robots are naturally multi-lingual and can adapt to the language you are using.
  • This includes robot butlers, entertainment, greeters and business services which for planning events can be more cost effective and reduce human error, streamlining the process of communicating with the systems to get exactly what you want.
  • ...12 more annotations...
  • As one of the strongest drivers for change in the event industry, technology plays a prominent role in the planning and management of events
  • It could also be the case that it loses that human touch for the guests and when quick problem-solving is needed, robots won’t be able to deal with this as intuitively as they follow set protocols.
  • With 3D bio-printing currently being researched, it is not a huge leap to consider 3D printers in hotel rooms that can accommodate products such as headphones or clothing and accessories
  • Based on votes and crowdsourcing, venues can be made-to-order and self-assemble the environment around them to suit.
  • Larger venues and associated grounds could create an event in themselves by recreating famous landmarks or even movie settings that could be explored.
  • Based on your DNA, own health and genetics you would be able to visit health centers and spas that could promote longevity. It could become the latest trend in bachelorette parties or healthy event experiences that cater to the health conscious.
  • A hotel that is short-term and could pop-up in limited spaces would work hand in hand with pop-up events and mean they could be reproduced on a larger scale.
  • It is suggested that fast and effective hovering, autonomous airport transfers would be able to go supersonic in order to beat the traffic and reduce the journey. If this is the case it could free up plenty of time on the itinerary for corporate or destination events and this means providing a better experience.
  • As sustainability and environmental issues are becoming an increasing concern and given prominence, it makes sense that future hotels and venues would plan sustainable events and accommodation
  • Sustainable hotels that produce and operate on clean, self-sustaining energy will become a viable option for the environmentally conscious guest and the suggestion is that all hotels would have the option to become sustainable.
  • These would work in a similar way to how a concierge app works now and would streamline the travel bookings and searches. In the same way that Siri can help you access items from the internet or your phone, these avatars would be a more complex and capable version that cuts out the need for travel agents
  • rom biometric payment systems which can greatly reduce the risk of identity theft to eye scanner room entry, DNA authorizations will be more popular. As technology develops, so does the need for security
  •
This article talks about the future of event planning. The efforts hotels will have to make to be competitive in the industry. It also talks about the technology that will have to be offered such as VR (virtual reality).
  •
This article is very interesting because it lists all the ways that event planning will be in the future because of technological advances. It talks about autonomous staff, 3D shopping, made-to-order venues, personalized longevity health spas, pop-up hotels, supersonic air travel, sustainable hotels, personal travel avatars, and DNA authorization. 5 Profitable Internet Marketing Strategies for Hotels - 0 views

  • If you're a hotel owner, chances are you are always looking to attract new guests to your location
  • Hospitality marketing is not always easy
  • Optimize your website for search engines
  • ...15 more annotations...
  • One of the most crucial strategies for hospitality marketing involves ensuring the visibility of your hotel's website on search engines
  • Having this information available up front can provide enormous benefits for your hotel. If you neglect this strategy in your hotel Internet marketing plan, you will be sacrificing many potential guests. One study found that 40% of mobile searchers are looking for travel-related information, like hotels, are likely to place phone calls if the option is available. Setting up your Google My Business page can make that option available instantly!
  • Research has shown that the top result in searches gets around 33% of clicks. This drops to 17% for the second result and 11% for the third. If you're on the second page, you're looking at about 1% or less.
  • Strengthen your local SEO
  • earch engine optimization involves making critical updates to your website's content, code, links, and occasionally layout to improve its likelihood of ranking in user searches.
  • Because hotels may have a hard time gaining a large number of engaged fans to consume their content or make future bookings, a shift in approach is recommended. For hotels, social media can be an incredible way to encourage interaction with past, current, or future guests, solve customer service issues in a timely manner or highlight the positive experiences that guests have had at your hotel
  • Encourage interaction on social media
  • Linking to your social media pages from your hotel website, and ensuring that they are checked regularly, can help encourage potential guests to contact you there. You may also want to add a tagline to your website, such as, "contact us on Facebook or Twitter with any questions we may answer about your stay"—to encourage this behavior.
  • Social media also helps humanize your business so that you can more easily relate to customers, making it a valuable part of an overall hotel internet marketing strategy.
  • Educate guests with content marketing
  • you may know that adding informative, keyword-rich content to your website is one of the best ways to improve your ranking on search engines
  • Dominate your competitors with PPC
  • nternet marketing for hotels can be highly challenging if you operate in a city that is a popular vacation spot or tourist attraction.
  • Pay-per-click advertising, or PPC, is another way that you can boost your hotel's visibility in search results. Searches on Google don't deliver just natural (also called "organic") results—they also deliver paid ads that have been placed there by companies or businesses.
  • PPC advertising works like this: your hotel sets up ads around certain relevant keywords, like "hotel in [city][state]." You then bid a certain amount, usually suggested by Google, to have your ads appear at the top and along the sides of organic search results. You don't pay anything for your ads unless they are clicked—thus the name "pay-per-click."
  •
This article was very interesting because it provided us with 5 different strategies to effectively use e-marketing for hotels. The five strategies they come up with are: Optimize your website for search engines, Strengthen your local SEO, Encourage interaction on social media, Educate guests with content marketing, and Dominate your competitors with PPC. All of these are very helpful hints that we might have heard of before, but it is crucial to go more in depth. I found very interesting that all of them are free except for the last one that requires a bit of an investment.

THE PASSAGE FROM AIRLINE RESERVATION SYSTEMS TO GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION SYSTEMS - ProQuest - 0 views

  • Consumers also seek immediate confirmation of the reservation;
    • drbucky

One of the smart things about the evolution of the GDS is that designers keep the end user (the traveler) in mind and continue to make sure the systems are user friendly and provide assurances to the traveler. This is significant to remember because there are several GDSs out there performing similar functions so, designing customer friendly systems become competitive advantage.
  • GDS also uses the tourism
    • drbucky

A big benefit for organizations that have strong GDSs: This is an excellent opportunity to collect traveler/guest data. GDSs can be used as an amazing marketing tool in providing information to users in real time and collecting data to help learn how to "speak" more effectively with the users

  • Through automation, the efficiency of this process has increased tremendously, while valuable information is being supplied to the customer.

    • drbucky

Perhaps one of the strongest reasons GDSs remain popular in the lodging industry is that these systems are built to be incredibly flexible, reflecting variations in seasonal rates for rooms and for different room types.
  • 1. INTRODUCTION
    • drbucky

The reason I was attracted to this article was that the authors provide an interesting history lesson about the role of the travel agent before the advent of modern-day GDSs, including online travel websites, including Travelocity and Expedia.
  • travel agents spent up to 80% of their time doing things that prepared them for making reservations, and only 20% actually making them. But, due to the commission that tourism providers and travel agents relied on, only the 20% generated revenue.
    • drbucky

Important to note that although this article is specifically written about the airline industry, the entire concept relates directly to the GDS of the lodging industry.
    • drbucky

These systems tend to attract younger users - is this a missed opportunity to attract older users or are businesses intentionally ignoring older travelers who may still depend on more traditional travel agent services?
    • drbucky

Costs to use these systems are high but the ROI may be higher than traditional methods because, used correctly, these systems market and sell themselves.

This section describes how the lodging industry started to incorporate GDSs into their own businesses.

The Future of Tulum, Mexico: A New $12,000 Penthouse and More Luxury Development in Par... - 0 views

I found this article to be extremely interesting since I have been wanting to travel to Tulum for a while now. I was also aware that many of the hotels are focused on preserving their natural resources and maintaning their beautiful town, but I did not know to what extent. One thing I found to be so important was how many hotels are vegan or vegetarian. At first it doesnt seem like a huge deal, but when one realizes how the consumption of meat is bad for the environment, it really makes a huge difference. I think it is really cool that Tulum is trying to create menus that are better for the environment and healthy for their guests. Another thing that the article examines is how the new hotels in Tulum are staying true to their town and keeping things natural. For one example the hotel called Be Tulum is using materials that are 100% natural with wood that is 100% recycled. With having every detail of the hotel with purpose, it really changes the atmosphere of the hotel for the better. The idea here which the article explains is that hotel and shop owners are trying their best to keep Tulum safe and sustainable. The owner of Be Tulum said he was implementing sustainability intiatives and finding new and better ways to approach energy, water and food, which I think is what they are doing by being vegetarian. Overall there seems to be a movement of green initiatives in place for the future for Tulum.

  •
Technology is changing the overall event management experience making events more productive and fun. This article touches on things like advances in event organizing software, real-time feedback for speakers and data collection of attendees that can lead to personalizing activities throughout the event. I think most professional public speakers would say they already get real-time feedback from their audiences; no technology required. But for more novice speakers, that type of feedback would not only improve their session, but also help them hone their speaking and delivery skills more quickly allowing them to become better speakers faster. Personalizing an event to each attendee sounds pretty cool. Read the section about using the data collected during the registration process. It's interesting to think the data could be cross-referenced to bring delegates together for networking opportunities. Making important business contacts is a key reason people attend events.

I like you opinion that is scalablility. It needs inclination probably. In technology field many Cloud computings are cooperating with estimations. It needs more view points to prove that it's a strength for Cloud computing. According to Cloud computing methods, some chances based on one register matching to one password are possible. I think it's a fresh era to talk about many computers operating together to consider whether some jobs for related people could work together. Thinking about more sensitive site of cloud network. They are efficient in bank running. I think it's a relative reason to help people to know more about scalability in Cloud computing hospitality area. To make it more appearing to customers, the manager should take a purchase options on the view side that I love it. It's multi task. It's enterprising. According to passages, many opinions could be choosing from tabs due to period and seasons. I want to make sure about scalability that clients and customers are good enough for them to make more multiple options to take a preference look. It's financial economic computing assistance too maybe according to cost I think. In words, I think technology should keep scalability to let other clients and customers to put favors on it. No matter Sundays or cruise days.

This article discusses how cloud computing is already taken into affect in the hotel industry. They used examples such as mobile check-ins using the online system. I can vouch for this because in my current hotel we use the mobile key service and this creates a contactless check in process. On our end of the stick we process the credit card on file and check them in and email the guest a welcome letter and advising they may use the mobile key to enter their room. This has benefited customer service experience especially with COVID still being a conflict in our industry. The cloud computing caters to the need of new access as this article states.

Restaurant POS Systems - Intel - 0 views

  • Improve customer experiences. Customers spend an average of 70 percent more with companies that provide great service.1 The right restaurant POS system can give customers the convenience they want so they keep coming back. Promote new menu items with greater ease. POS self-service touchpoints, like self-ordering kiosks, make it simple to keep menus up to date and draw attention to new items. Offer loyalty features that generate repeat business. Most US customers (65 percent) are members of at least one restaurant loyalty program.2 POS systems can more easily link customers to their loyalty account to drive repeat business.
  • The next generation of self-ordering kiosks includes the combination of cameras and AI-enabled computer vision for new capabilities. For example, by detecting anger or frustration, a kiosk can trigger an alert that sends an employee to assist the customer.
  •
Intel has been at the heart of Restaurant Innovation and the hospitality industry. A business solution that continues to impress. In this post by Intel they refer to how the POS system for a Restaurant has a few different options that are becoming more popular today. The big touch screens from McDonald's to Hotels having touch screens in mirrors. The IoT is creating solutions by partnering with company's like Intel. One highlight for me in this post was Intel's solution of Kiosks systems that can detect emotions using Ai camera's, and alerting employees to help the customer.

The Pros and Cons of Restaurant Self-service Kiosks - 0 views

  • With 79% of customers saying that they believe restaurant kiosks make their experience more convenient, according to NRA data, expect it to be a growing trend.
  • Customers have grown accustomed to helping themselves at many dining establishments over the years, whether it’s placing their orders at counters at the restaurant POS or choosing items from a buffet and paying for them.
  • The main appeal of self-checkout kiosks is to make the ordering process more efficient, which is why they have become popular in fast food chains.
  • ...2 more annotations...
  • Another downside is that once you leave orders to the customers, you can lose out on some of the human customer service touches. Especially at sit down establishments, guests often ask waitstaff for recommendations or have questions about how dishes are prepared. You can’t do that on a screen.
  • In a poll released by MSN, 78 percent of diners said they were less likely to eat at a restaurant with self-ordering kiosks.

According to the article, NRA data shows that 79% of customers say they believe restaurant kiosks make their experience more convenient. However, an MSN poll shows that 78% of diners say they are less likely to eat at a restaurant with self-ordering kiosks. Although a kiosk may make the experience more convenient, are customers ready to give up that personal interaction with the service staff? This could be an issue that is based on the type of service model, with a younger audience or diners frequenting a fast-casual experience not minding the self-service aspect where an older more sophisticated diner frequenting a high-end establishment may want that personal service experience.

  • One of the main advantages involves a second-to-none level of in-house automation; freeing up staff members to perform other guest-related tasks. Additionally, hotel robots can perform around-the-clock functions that might be impossible for employees to achieve. Many requirements can be completed with a higher level of precision when compared to human counterparts. Finally, the presence of robots provides a hotel with a genuinely cutting-edge appeal.
  • some tasks (such as addressing a question that has not been pre-programmed by staff) will need to be addressed by a human.
