An article for history nerds and interested teachers who want to dig deeper into the materials they use in class. Many, many teachers use this cartoon as the basis for a full lesson or include it in the presentation of content. Teachers should read or even just skim through this article to recognize the vast depth of historical inquiry that lies beneath even the most commonplace elements of their instruction.

A tremendous asset for history teachers and students. It contains a large amount of historical information about nations and people from around the world and the creators are always adding more information. The site allows you to search alphabetically or use their search bar. It also contains timelines, quizzes and maps that identify historic locations. History teachers should really take the time to look around this amazing site. Best of all, the site is free to use.

This article provides a case study of  how the CRCD framework shaped the  development of the "Day in the Life of  a Teenage Hobo Project," a multi-day  investigation into the social history of  teenage homelessness during the Great  Depression. Using the framework, Tom  Daccord, a former U.S. history teacher  and current academic technology specialist in Massachusetts, designed a  project that used multiple technologies- search engines, blogs, and podcasting  tools-to help students investigate the  political, economic, and social history  of the Great Depression.

Read through the US census records from 1940.  If you're in the US, and your house is old enough, you can see who lived in your house back in the day.

These are a set of out-of-print guides made by the NYC Board of Education in 1993-1994. They are full of primary sources, short text selections and activities which many teachers have found very useful. Although designed for 7th and 8th grade they can be modified for high school and elementary school. Many teachers have used these over the last 17 years to help them develop their lessons. They are large files so they will take a few minutes to open. Note that both sets follow the same format but the 8th grade guides were done with a modern text style and therefore "looks" much better.

Timelinr is a simple web 2.0 application used for creating timelines online. You just need to enter the start year and end year of the timeline (range) and add events to the timeline and then click 'Create Timeline'. Timelinr will generate the Timeline based on the input you gave and it will return the HTML for your Timeline, which you can copy and use it anywhere!

A great website that uses primary sources to create critical thinking activities for students to solve. Recommended for upper level high school students.

A thorough collection of reports and official records from the US Civil War, from both the Union and Confederate armies. Very detailed. If you're interested in quality sources on the US Civil War, can I suggest History According to Bob at www.summahistorica.com? He's a professor on the subject and his podcasts give a thorough treatment of the topic.
