Ancient History Web Sites - 2 views

An excellent list of sites related to Ancient History, focussing mainly on the Classical West and the Near East. I wonder why the Chinese and Indians and others still don't count as 'Ancient History' to most people? A great collection, though.

Another of the excellent sourcebooks run by those Jesuits at Fordham Uni. This is the best online primary source research for the ancient world I've found.

Group Ancient Civilizations's best bookmarks - 1 views

This group is dedicated to Ancient Civs, especially Egypt. I didn't want to just pinch their bookmarks as that's a bit rude (seeings I'm in this group) so I thought bookmarking their bookmarks, which will update, the best way. There are some great sites here.

Ancient History Encyclopedia - 2 views

Seems to give thorough and accurate definitions of terms related to Classical history. Seems to be neglecting the reality that Asia had Ancient History too, but that's a minor oversight. Only a couple of billion people lived there anyway... Would be great for preliminary student research and definitions.

I'm being lazy. I've been going through and saving these sites individually but I'm sick of looking at them. I'll come back later and finish the job. There are heaps of sites there on ancient history.

Ancient Lives is recruiting laymen to help transliterate the Oxyrhynchus Papyrii. No knowledge of Greek required, but you get first hand experience of what archaeologists and papyrologists do in the process - measuring manuscripts, identifying letters, etc.

Not quite sure why the "California Institute for Ancient Studies' has German on the homepage. Not great quality but if it's Bronze Age I usually bookmark it regardless - there's not much on that era.

Exploring Ancient World Cultures - 5 views

I usually don't add secondary sources (I've found books are much more comprehensive - secondary websites seem usually quite simplistic in their treatments) but thought this might be useful for people working with younger classes doing preliminary research or activities on ancient civilisations.
