Since we have talked about Lurking a few times during class, i thought this post in a help forum for Lefora.com (a forum host) was interesting. The subtle difference in perspective for this post is that assumes managers of the forum are appealing to audience rather than offering fodder for consideration and discussion. A trend I've noticed generally around the use of technology in education is how it requires teachers to be better persuaders and packagers of information. I think this is a good trend but I am wary of it going too far.

Yesterday afternoon, some of us were at a talk by Prof. Alex Pentland I found several of the topics tie back to our class discussion. Of course for young students it appears more complicated. I am considering reading his papers ( at least the non technical parts :) His ideas can impact learning in the class room too ! For Wiske's class - wouldn't this fit nicely into the CoI and PI models? If so, why wouldn't school embrace this use instead of worrying about inappropriate use of phones in class? Make the lesson or assignment engaging enough - generative enough - to hook and sustain appropriate interaction on the device that 93% of children have ACCESS to? Sounds like a win-win?

For those of you in Professor Wiske's class, this makes our course work all the more relevant. For the purposes of this class, what technologies are effective in providing the tools for teachers and students to engage in quality online education? Certainly a question that, based on these numbers, is only going to grow more complex with time...

Article about a Chicago high school's new digital library that encourages kids to produce and remix media. Certainly an intriguing idea, but I am reminded of the attention we must pay to the latest 'fads' with new digital media - will this library be outdated by the time this district's elementary school children reach high school? Still, wicked cool stuff and definitely moving in the right direction in getting media literacy into schools!
