Interesting platform for sharing lesson plans and networking for teachers.

The SPINNER project from the Responsive Environments Group at MIT Media Lab is the first research platform designed to investigate the world of ubiquitous video devices. The Spinner can automatically edit video to fit a narrative structure. It uses video from cameras installed at the Media Lab and sensor data from people generated by wearable smart badges to track their activity and location. The system then creates a video using the characteristics detected from the sensor data with the video captured by the cameras.

I was reading about using tech in elections and I ran across Hackpad. I had never heard of Hackpad, and this is a question for the teaching staff: Might this be a good option to have more of our class conversations in one place? I'd be curious to know how you think it compares as a discussion platform.

TED talk on Coursera . If you haven't seen it, its a well constructed case in favor of the platform. Perhaps remedial for our understanding, but useful for dissemination of understanding this technology.

An Indian firm has created a mobile device platform that "empowers social enterprises (at the bottom of the pyramid) to capture, analyze and process information remotely through smartphones / tablets". I think this is interesting in it's bringing mobile collaboration to some of the most remote places, physically and economically.

Kaggle is a platform for data prediction competitions that allows organizations to post their data and have it scrutinized by the public. In exchange for a prize, winning competitors provide the algorithms that beat all other methods of solving a data crunching problem. Kaggle is in Class is a statistical & data mining learning tool for students.

Udemy offers online platforms easy to design courses

Thank you for posting - this is fascinating. This is not only a threat to Blackboard, but also the MOOC companies (Coursera, Udacity, etc.). If the tool continues to be developed in terms of functionality and ease of use, AND third party developers build out applications that plug into this platform, then colleges and universities will start to build their own online courses, and not farm out their content to the Coursera's of the world... This reminds of the dot com era (circa 2000) when companies large and small hired "web development" firms to create websites for them. Now companies largely do this themselves...

This site advertizes that it is the first virtual mentoring site app. It is intended to be a way for educators, parents, students, and/or at-risk youth to stay connected using a single platform. It even has a built in VRM (Virtual Relationship Management) tool.

Thanks for sharing Andrea! The ones that I'm really hoping for are biotechnology, nano tech, wireless power, green tech and of course educational tech. Something from the many comments that other users on that platform shared that stood out for me 1. Importance of a policy framework to make it all happen 2. Importance of separating noise from value.
