Berkman Center for Internet & Society - 1 views

I'm sure you all know about Berkman Center. In case you're not on their email announcements list, you might want to be. As educators, parents and protectors of children, we have an interest and obligation to employ best practices for use of technologies and media dissemination. I'm certain we are all thinking about this deeply at this very heavy time.

Digital Divide Hits College-Admissions Process - 0 views

  •
Seems that students from low-income populations not only need access to up-to-date computers, but also they need much better college counseling supports. It's a shame that those who aspire to college, are stressed out that they aren't receiving the assistance they need.

Mobile Health Tech: From Novel Startups to Global Industry - 0 views

Very interesting article about mHealth summit and explosion of medical tech devices. Yet most innovations are for the consumer industry as opposed to the providers, who need innovations just as much. The regulations and approvals necessary for physicians is a huge hurdle.

Death On Facebook Now Common As 'Dead Profiles' Create Vast Virtual Cemetery - 0 views

How the web is changing the lives of people after they die. This is not depressing! I actually think it's quite interesting, and certainly now a part of "life after death." A friend of mine with over 2000 FB friends passed away last summer and I still see his page ranked highly on mine almost daily. Admittedly, it's odd, but it's also a nice reminder of him.

Collaborative Agenda - @NDI Unconference on #ElecTech - Using Tech in Elections - 0 views

  •
I was reading about using tech in elections and I ran across Hackpad. I had never heard of Hackpad, and this is a question for the teaching staff: Might this be a good option to have more of our class conversations in one place? I'd be curious to know how you think it compares as a discussion platform.

Tutors Teach Seniors New High-Tech Tricks - 0 views

My grandparents live far away, and it's really hard trying to explain computer stuff on the phone. It would be great if there were more efforts like this, hooking up high school/college students to help local seniors.

Technology Changing How Students Learn, Teachers Say - 1 views

  •
Interesting article with cons and pros of effects of technology on students attention. I know good teachers are competing more and more for kids attention. But I also wonder if students waning abilities to think deeply and critically have as much to do with flaws in our education system/schooling as use of tech.

Reflecting On A Year Of Blended Learning | GothamSchools - 2 views

  •
Some of the city's "turnaround" schools, including the one where this teacher works, are listing knowledge or willingness to learn about using a blended learning instructional models as a criterion for hiring teachers. An interesting and entertaining blig post about implementation & buy-in of blended learning in NYC schools.

Free Online Education is Now Illegal in Minnesota - 0 views

Wow, so online education is a political issue? How could Minnesota government think an arcane law to pay fees is going to deter anyone?
