The second part of Project Tomorrow's Speak Up 2011 report (based on a national survey of teachers, librarians and administrators), was just released. This part focuses on how "today's educators are personalizing the learning process for students," and how they are personalizing the classroom experience with online, socially-networked media and digital content.

Okay, I'm only bookmarking this for those of you who are interested in how gaming may or may not be related to other cultures. This is an "Indian" on line magazine and to me, looks very typical of magazine articles I see when I go to Indian grocery stores or when I was in India (ten years ago). Notice the American faces showing how to care for Indian hair. My point is, pretty much anything acceptable here will be acceptable abroad. It's just not the India (or other country) that's shown on CNN or National Geographics. At least that's my opinion.

March 20th people all over the world will be quiting their phones,computers or whatever other device of choice keeps them from spending time interacting with other humans and enjoying the analog beauty that is all around us.

I can't do this and I'm pretty old! Can't imagine young people being able to.

SETDA's "National Educational Technology Trends Report" spotlights state efforts to boost learning through the federal Enhancing Education Through Technology program

Very disturbing findings. Here's a quick excerpt: "There is still debate over whether scientific collaboration leads to better results. Jonathon Cummings, an associate professor of management at Duke University, and his colleagues got a grant from the National Science Foundation to look at 491 research collaborations funded by the foundation. They discovered something unsettling: Collaborations of more universities fared worse than projects primarily executed at a single university. More collaborators meant fewer patent applications, fewer published papers, and less chance of the group seeking additional funding to keep projects going." "Dr. Cummings says it appears that the amount of coordination required to make progress on research-everything from setting up meetings to integrating knowledge among group members-outweighed the potential benefits of collaboration. In the wake of the study, he says, the science foundation now requires grant applicants for some programs to detail how they expect to manage the collaboration."

from the article: "...students don't think of programming as a whole separate world the way older adults tend to, but as a tool they can use to explore their interests." The article also identifies several trends in EdTech including ATT, GeorgiaTech and Udacity's partnership to provide an online masters in Computer Science.

Within five years, Yale-designed robots may be helping teach children. A Yale-led team of researchers from across the country received a $10 million grant from the National Science Foundation on April 3 to pursue the creation of "socially assistive robots" to help young children learn basic skills and in some cases overcome cognitive disabilities.

Tax exemption, better loans, and interesting training options would certainly be motivating for me. However, are National Teacher Awards motivating for anyone?
