I saw a guy playing an XBox video game that was loadd onto his console in Denver at Logan airport using a service like this. Very cool service that suspect will only continue to grow over the next year. Certainly this innovation in networked entertainment delivery has potential in the education sector.

Man uses Facebook for suicide note - 0 views

This SOB used Facebook to explain his reasons for taking his son's and his own life. Make no mistake this guy has some serious issues. Still, it is noteworthy that Facebook and other social media outlets (youtube, flickr) have been used by the public and authorities to intervene and prosecute people that broadcast their criminal actions and intent. Think about it, George Orwell's vision of the future had the authorities constantly policing and monitoring citezens, but this has not been the case. Instead, we the people, ourselves are the ones monitoring each other via ubiquitous content creation and social media sharing.

'MAG' brings worldwide warfare to PS3 - 0 views

Maybe it is a guy thing, but I think I would enjoy building a crack team of mercenaries to battle other 'gangs'. The VOIP functionality and real-time skirmishes sound like a lot of fun. I just had a great idea for a MUVE game... Rookie, a MUVE that requores the formation of a constant cohort of users that must work together to graduate a Police Academy (politics, alliance building, skills, civic quandries, etc). They rise through the ranks together culminating in SWAT team training and/or criminal justice track (courts).

  • new phase of Aspire, we’ll take a “socially innovative” approach that goes beyond traditional philanthropy, engaging people and technology to create new and different solutions to social problems.
  • new Aspire will also leverage technology to connect with students in new and more effective ways. And you can expect to see a particular emphasis on gamification (using game techniques to teach students math, science and other applications), mobile applications, video and social media – the communications environments in which many of today’s students are most comfortable – to instill a new level of excitement into learning.

The Most Dangerous Gamer - 1 views

Hey Guys, this is an Atlantic article a friend sent me awhile ago and I thought some of you might think it's interesting. It's about Jonathan Blow a video game designer with a unique taste. He's in the process of creating The Witness a game that is more artistic, contemplative, and zen-like than FPS type games. This is a long article and to be honest I didn't read all of it, but if you're interested there's a video half way down that gives you an idea of what The Witness will look like. He says users will really have to observe, pay attention and think in order to play the game. Seems interesting to me!

I agree! It really makes me want to play Braid and keep an eye out for The Witness (which rings a bell--I wonder where else I heard about it...). This article paints a vivid picture of the game designer and the type of art he makes. Thanks for sharing!
