The Association of Independent Multiple Pharmacies (AIMp) and senior official of NHS Property Services (NHSPS) had a meeting on August 18 to review the rent policy for health centre pharmacies. Earlier, the association had sent a letter to NHSPS that was signed by pharmacies from across the sector, including single independents, pharmacy groups and members of the Company Chemists' Association. The letter outlined concerns about rent reviews and the impact of it on the co-located health centre pharmacies. Dr Leyla Hannbeck, CEO of AIMp, said: "We outlined that whilst in the past, the norm established by the industry, was to base rents for co-located pharmacies primarily based on patient list size, (and taking account of a few other factors), the industry now needs to revise the basis on which rents are determined for co-located pharmacies." The association, on behalf of the pharmacy sector, met the CEO of NHSPS and two of their senior directors (director or property management and their finance director).

Wednesbury Pharmacy in Sandwell, West Midlands has been purchased by Sukh Gill of Sodaskill Limited who already owns a community pharmacy in the area, Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co, announced on Thursday (1st January) Located in the Friar Park area of Wednesbury, this pharmacy dispenses an average of 7,600 items per month and follows standard opening hours. It was owned by Enimed Limited for over five years before it was brought to market last year. The ownership of the business was changed to Gill, who already owns Friar Park Chemist just a few doors up the road, following a confidential 'off-market' sales process at Christie & Co. Christie & Co, a specialist business property adviser, recently finalised the sale of two pharmacies-one located in Wales and the other in Hampshire. Sylvia Williams Chemist, a well-performing community pharmacy located on the main high street of the Vale of Glamorgan market town of Cowbridge, has been sold after an impressive 50 years of ownership. Dispensing an average of 12,500 items monthly, the business has been owned by Kate Thomas and her family for nearly 50 years. It was put on the market to enable her retirement and allow her to focus on other interests, the broker said. The pharmacy has been purchased by Zaid Salih, making it his second pharmacy acquisition. Jonathan Board, Director - Medical at Christie & Co, who handled the sale, said that Sylvia Williams Chemist attracted a wide range of buyers.
