How This Influenced My Thinking:It's amazing to know that with each experience a baby encounters, it only aids in brain development. This goes into the discussion of cognition and toys and how infants learn from their environment. Children make schemas, how we organize and process information, in order to make sense of things. However, for children, assimilation and accomodation are necessary since they are constantly learning and can confuse things. How This Influenced My Thinking:Schemas are a good learning tool, but can also make learning difficult. It is important to be open minded in order to take in new information. It also discusses the other types of attachment; Anxious-Ambivalent Insecure Attachment and Anxious-Avoidant insecure attachment. How this influenced my thinking: This web based article allowed me to get a deeper understanding of the three different types of attachment that Ainsworth studied. Title: Social Emotional Development: 24-36 months Author: No author Date Published: 2010 Why Relevant and Summary: This is an accessible guide for parents of two year olds to learn ways to help their toddler understand his feelings, encourage early friendships, letting the child lead in play, and supporting older toddlers' developing skills, as well as helping the child learn to resolve conflict in healthy ways, understand reasons for limits/request, use language to communicate needs. How this influenced my thinking: As a mother of two children (fairly recently out of the toddler stage) this gave me quite a bit to reflect on as far as my own parenting and how I can make improvements going forward should I ever have more children, and it would likely influence any advice I may give out to parents of toddlers. Credibility of Source: National Center for Infants, Toddlers and Families is an organization dedicated to healthy child development, so this publication is likely backed by solid research.

Why Relevant and Summary: This site is relevant because it gives tips on how to handle toddlers in social interactions, and how to help them interact well with others, and understand to not only understand their own emotions, but the emotions of others as well. How this Influenced my Thinking: This showed me just how important it is to communicate with children about their feelings, and how to help them understand them. It showed me it is important to be calm and discuss what is going on, instead of simply reacting to a situation. Credibility of Source: Degree aquired by author, found on ahaparenting.com, a website for parent to seek helpful and beneficial tips and lessons on raising kids.

How This Influenced My Thinking: This articles identified the importance of communicating and intervening with your child to help develop social skills and the importance of knowing how your child feels, and helping your child understand other peoples feelings. Credibility of Source: The author is a doctor.

Author: TVO Parents Date Published: October 8 2009 Why relevant and summary: Great information about ADHD and interviews of people with ADHD How this influenced my thinking: I have never been "officially" diagnosed with ADHD but I have always struggled with attention, organization and time management. This resource gave me some great information on finding other resources available. Credibility of source: Very credible resource. Cites other sources and experts who contributed to the show.

Title: "I'm Passionate About Life" Author: Matt Lauer Interviews Tom Cruise Date Published: June 25, 2005 Why Relevant and Summary: This interview looked at the criticism for medication for ADHD. Tom Cruise gave his reasoning on why he thought meds were bad and it related to the ADHD and culture portion of the short writing assignment. How This Influenced My Thinking: This gave insight on the opposing side to meds. Credibility of Source: It was an interview so I don't think he could lie about his opinion!

This article was an interview with Susan Smalley, Ph.D., is a professor in the department of psychiatry and biobehavioral sciences at the University of California, Los Angeles, Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior and director of its Mindful Awareness Research Center. How this influenced my thinking: I was fascinated to find out about some of the environmental factors that show increased lecels of ADHD. Credibility: I'm on the fence. The doctor seems credible, but I am not sure about the writer.

It discusses the 3 subtypes of adhd that i didnt even know existed. And it tells you what it used to treat it. how it influenced my thinking- This site influenced my thinking on what adhd is because before, i thought it was a straight forward disorder that people took medication for. But after visiting this site, i realized that there are different types, and it affects people differently. Not everyone is medicated for it, and many people go through life undiagnosed. credibility of source- credible since its a government website

Date Published:Jan 6, 2012 Why Relevant and Summary: It gives a nice overview of what exactly ADHD (and also ADD) is, what symptoms there are and how to work with it. it also gives interesting facts about how long it may have been around, and how many people are diagnosed with it. How this Influenced my Thinking; This just gave me a few extra bits of information about ADHD and its history, i am already familiar with it, as i have a younger brother who was diagnosed with it. Credibility of Source: The authors have degrees, and it is on a credible website about many varying aspects of psychology.

How it Influenced my Thinking: I was really surprised by the number of children in america that have ADHD. It says on average one student in each classroom will have it.
