Title: 10 Ways to Raise a Grateful kid Author: Homa Tavangar Date Published: ND Why Relevant and Summary: This article is very helpful if one is doing Assignment 9 on "Parenting a Toddler". It gives several examples on how to make your child grateful for everything and in the process it also helps children to be more social and overcome shyness. How this influenced my thinking: This article was very helpful. I was aware of all of the examples but it definitely made me put in action the examples whenever I have a toddler, because I definitely want them to be well educated and respectful. It also describes the components of attachment. It also discusses several different characteristics of attachment. How this influenced my thinking: This influenced my thinking because I hadn't realized how important attachment is to a child.

Title: Social Development Author: Growing Miracles Date Published: 2010 Why Relevant and Summary: It's relevant because it talks about the social development and all the aspects of what a toddler learns in this stage of life. It talks about communicating, sharing, putting the child in home settings and setting limits for the child. How This Influenced My Thinking: It influences my thinking because it makes me want to go back to when my children were small so that I can teach them differently than how they were taught. Credibility of Source: I think it's credible because even though it was reprinted with permission, the information is similar to that of research.

Title- Mary Ainsworth Author- Saul Mcleod Date published-2008 Why relevant and summary- This site goes into depth about who Mary Ainsworth is, what she did for psychology, and how she came to develop her theory of secure attachment. The site gives a lot of information on the different attachment styles and what they mean, as well as providing a video that illustrates the different types of attachment. How this influenced my thinking- This influenced my thinking by allowing me to see how crucial of a role attachment plays in the development of children. It explains why it is important to promote development for the toddler during early development. Title- Piaget's theory of cognitive development author- Many published- 2012 why relevant- This webpage talks about Piaget's theory, assimilation and accommodation, and breaks down all the motor stages. how influenced-Although i did view other websites to learn more about Piaget's theory of development. I felt that wiki broke it down in a way that not many other sites did. I was able to see what was going on in each stage of development, and it even went further into explaining the substages and what they encompass. credibility of source- I checked what wiki was telling me against other, more credible websites so i feel that the info i got was credible, even if the site itself has a bad rep for being credible :)

How this influenced my thinking: I am very interested in brain development and learning. I am excited about researching learning and brain development in the womb. Credibility of source: very credible news station and research is cited.

Title:Outdoor Play Author: Johnson, Christie & Wardle Date Published: 2005 Why relevant/summary: This article is relevant because it throughly discusses the importance of physical activity to a growing toddler, specifically how outdoor play can aide in not only their physical development but how it can also be used as a tool for cognitive learning opportunities. How this influenced my thinking: This article opened my eyes to how outdoor play is not only providing play and physical activity for a young child but also many different learning opportunities that they may not experience otherwise. Credibility of Source: Very credible, the authors provided many examples as well as citations and references.

Title: ADHD Overview Author: Jacob Silverman Date Published: No date Why relevant and summary: This is a comprehensive overview of ADHD, the causes, symptoms, diagnoses, treatments and related disorders. There are also a number of other highly relevant articles that are easily accessible on this site. How this influenced my thinking: There is a lot of information about raising a child with ADHD. I've never had experience with this in regards to my own children, but as a former teacher I have been aware of the 'basics' for many years. There is so much to learn and understand on this topic, especially so that caregivers can be more understanding of individualized needs and be less likely to judge or treat children with ADHD differently. Credibility of source: This is a Discovery Health article. It may not be highly credible in it's own right, but likely pulled it's information from scholarly/medical/research based resources.

Title: Social Emotional Development: 24-36 months Author: No author Date Published: 2010 Why Relevant and Summary: This is an accessible guide for parents of two year olds to learn ways to help their toddler understand his feelings, encourage early friendships, letting the child lead in play, and supporting older toddlers' developing skills, as well as helping the child learn to resolve conflict in healthy ways, understand reasons for limits/request, use language to communicate needs. How this influenced my thinking: As a mother of two children (fairly recently out of the toddler stage) this gave me quite a bit to reflect on as far as my own parenting and how I can make improvements going forward should I ever have more children, and it would likely influence any advice I may give out to parents of toddlers. Credibility of Source: National Center for Infants, Toddlers and Families is an organization dedicated to healthy child development, so this publication is likely backed by solid research.

It also discusses the other types of attachment; Anxious-Ambivalent Insecure Attachment and Anxious-Avoidant insecure attachment. How this influenced my thinking: This web based article allowed me to get a deeper understanding of the three different types of attachment that Ainsworth studied. This goes into the discussion of cognition and toys and how infants learn from their environment. Children make schemas, how we organize and process information, in order to make sense of things. However, for children, assimilation and accomodation are necessary since they are constantly learning and can confuse things. How This Influenced My Thinking:Schemas are a good learning tool, but can also make learning difficult. It is important to be open minded in order to take in new information.
