It describes the needs and expectations needed for healthy coping through divorce. Children need reassurance, stability, patience, and love even more during a divorce. Keeping these important staples intact will help the child deal with divorce. It discusses how kids are going to express their feelings and red flags for more serious problems developing due to divorce. How This Influenced My Thinking: I have always thought that no matter what the parents do the children involved in divorces will feel the repercussions and that there is nothing that parents can do to fix it. This false belief that I have had is untrue-many children that are provided stable,secure, and loving homes after divorce learn to cope and turn out to be just fine. How This Influenced My Thinking:This helped me understand why it is need to focus on the children during a divorce proceeding and how divorce can effect a child. Title: Co-Parenting After Divorce - Sixteen Arguments in Support of Co-Parenting Author: Edward Kruk, Ph.D. Date published: April 16, 2012 Why relevant and summary: In the absence of violence, abuse, etc., the best thing for children in the midst of divorce is to have time with both parents. Shared parenting or Co-Parenting encourages children to maintain meaningful relationships with both parents after a divorce. Although in practice, this can be difficult and the reality is that in many divorces, kids will live primarily with one parent, the point is to set aside our anger and conflicts with the ex spouse and really put the children's needs first. How this influenced my thinking: I recently went through a divorce, and my ex spouse lives on the opposite coast. Co-parenting is quite tricky, but the bottom line is that we both agree that the kids need their father in the picture as much as possible. We have agreed to never, ever use the children as a weapon against each other. We always consult each other in terms of the children's needs, education, etc. Although the kids live 100% of the time with me, I encourage daily contact with their father via Skype/FaceTime, and when they are a bit older, they will be able to travel and spend some school vacations with their dad. Why Relevant and Summary: In this article, I learned that the sex talk can help prevent a lot of things. Such as fear, awkwardness, and curiosity. Having the sex talk is well awkward, but it helps prevent unsafe sex, unplanned pregnancies, and well sex. Apparently, if a parent talks to their child about sex it decreases the number of partners they will have and it will keep abstinence a lot longer than others. For a girl, it is easier and less awkward to talk to your mother about sex than it is your father. I learned that it is never too early to have the sex talk with your child and that there are websites and centers that can help you ease into the sex talk without it being awkward. I read about how there are signs that indicate puberty is around the corner for girls and how a mother should have open communications with her daughter when it comes to puberty and sex. How This Influenced My Thinking: i knew sex was always an awkward topic, but when i was young my dad explained to me what it was, and discussed puberty with me and it was normal and not odd. as i grew into adolescence it became wierd to talk to my parents. this just showed me that parents can find it difficult to the point where they ignore the issue and dont bother discussing it. This article provides support in the maturation of girls and boys and why some people prefer the age difference and why some people may not. How This Influenced My Thinking It helps my thinking to understand where my husband and I are at in our marriage to where we were when we dated in high school. I was more mature than he was, but now he has matured and to be more intelligent than I am but we are equally mature enough. We are also 3 days apart in age.

For example, Dowling says, "go to bed angry if you want to" because you're better off getting a good night's sleep before tackling the conflict again. Another good tip is to remember that every relationship is unique and it is damaging to compare yours to other relationships. I think the other gives some pretty solid, yet basic marriage advice that couples considering marriage should read. How this influenced my thinking: I have been married and divorced, and am in another relationship that is progressing toward marriage. I hope to avoid the mistakes made in my first marriage, so articles like this one apply directly to my personal life. However, no matter how good the advice is, you've got to make sure you're marrying someone you can absolutely be with through thick and thin. Title:Why I Love My 50-Year-Old Body Date Published: January 7, 2013 Author: Dr. Lisa Kaplin Why Relevant and Summary: this article is relevant because it talks about the body at age 50. it tell people to love their body and not to discourage or be ashamed of it. it explains how to maintain being healthy and hoe to eat right at 50. it is a useful article for those who have body image issues at an older age. How This Influenced My Thinking: this made me realize that people have major body image issues even after they are older. it makes me stop and think that even through all that these older folk have been through, somehow the image that is distilled on the younger generation caught up to the older generation and made them want to be in their 20's all over again when their bodies were at the peak of being viewed as beautiful. This article has a real life perspective of people going through the motions of caring for and making decisions for their elderly parents. Times of caring for the parents were described in depth from the perspective of the adult caregiver. This article gives a great outlook on the emotional roller coaster that the adult caregiver goes on and how this affects her deeply. How This Influenced My Thinking: This article made me really think about how difficult it would be to care for an elderly adult that is affected by dementia or Alzheimer's disease. Having to make the decision to put your parent in a home that offers better care than you can must be a devastating heart wrenching decision that must be made . Credibility of Source: no

The elderly begin to withdraw from activities they love because of an illness, for example. Little by little, they lose their independence and remove themselves from social networks. How this influenced my thinking:It's is sad to think that some elderly will withdraw themselves from society when they lose independence. It is important that as family, we keep in touch with our elderly family members and keep them as close to society as possible. Whether it be taking them to the park, grocery store, or just talking to them on a daily basis. Credibility of source: Seems credible. It includes all its sources.

It also gives a great example of a 75 year man who tries to maximize his cognitive resources. Further more, it breaks down the word 'selective optimization with compensation' and tells you what each word implies on its own, and how all the words as a whole make up the meaning of the theory. How this influenced my thinking: This influenced my thinking by providing me with a great example of SOC in a way that really helped my understanding of it. The idea of SOC makes perfect sense and i can see why psychologists use it when they are talking about successful aging. Credibility of source: I feel like the site was pretty credible.
