Title: Helping Your Child Through a Divorce Author: Michelle New, PhD Date Published: Updated 2011 Why Relevant and Summary: This site if very helpful because it gives several examples of how one can tell ones child that they are going through a divorce. It also goes through the different ages in children and how they might react to the divorce. Overall, this article is great for helping one cope with a divorce as well as ways to help your child cope with a divorce without making much damage. How this influenced my thinking: My parent are still together, so I was never exposed to any divorce issues, but I do remember having friends whose parents were divorced so I knew it was a hard process especially for my friends. Because I don't talk to my high school friends anymore, I honestly wasn't sure what the negative outcomes were of a divorce, but after reading this site all of the pain and sorrow from my friends came back. Everything that was mentioned especially about teens reactions were the way that my friends reacted during their parent's divorce. Credibility: This site seems to be credible.

How This Influenced My Thinking: There were some great tips on parenting after the divorce and some great example on how to help your child cope with the situation. I thought it did a great job of explaining how the child may feel and how to address those feelings. Credibility of Source: Author has their PhD and the website is a credible website

It discusses how to break the news to them, giving them consistency, how to parent as single parents, and not bringing arguements to them. How this influenced my thinking:I believe that it is very important to never argue in front of children. When this happens, children may feel like they need to choose sides. Title: The Alarming Reason Why More Girls are Starting Puberty Early Author: Dr. Joseph Mercola Date Published: August 26, 2010 Why Relevant and Summary: This article was relevant because it explains a great deal of information that be or may not be factors in why girls are going through puberty at much younger ages than they once were just 20 years ago. In this article, Dr. Mercola explains some of the largest factors or early onset of puberty and explains why those things may cause early childhood puberty. How This Influenced My Thinking: This didn't so much influence my thinking as it confirmed my belief that chemicals in the food our children eat may very well play a major role in when they begin puberty. Credibility of Source: I find this article to be highly credible, Dr. Mercola seems to have done extensive research on the topic as well as included the input of other knowledgeable professionals.

Author: Ann Hallemans Date Published: May 2007 Why Relevant and Summary: This article is relevant to the study because it demonstrate a longitudinal study done on infant of the earlier stages of walking. It also provides research done and the methods that were included as well. How This Influenced My Thinking: This had influence my way of thinking by now knowing that earlier development is in walking is not only with our nervous system but as well with our mental capability. Title: Urie Bronfenbrenner and Child Development Author: Angela Oswalt Date Published: Jan. 17, 2008 Why Relevant and Summary: This page is relevant because it speaks of Urie Bronfenbrenner's model of development. The main focus is on child and adolescent development. It compares Urie's model to other theoris of development. This is a great starting point if you want to learn about Freud, Erikson, Piaget, Kohlberg and Urie Bronfenbrenner. How This Influenced My Thinking: From this model I understood that how a child develops is influenced from the systems in the child's life. However, when taking microsystem into consideration and the important people in the child's life, the way the child acts towards the microsystem (people) also influences how those people will act towards the child. How This Influenced My Thinking: This entry helped me understand the systems a bit better. Credibility of Source: its a 17 page document covring many ideas and theories, it has many links connected to it.

How This Influenced My Thinking: Makes the idea of ZPD and scaffolding very clear in my mind and reinforced the importance of this idea. This video shows how young children can be taught not only by teachers and adults but by their peers who are slightly more advanced than them.You are able to witness both Scaffolding and guided participation within this segment. How this influenced my thinking: It gave me a better understanding of Vygotsky's theory. Credibility of Source: it was published by a professor.

It also discusses a wide range of what to keep in mind when it comes to a child's temperament. How this influenced my thinking: This changed the way I think because it goes in detail how truly prepared a parent has to be. Credibility of source: it seems reliable it has refrences and cites everything.

Title: ADHD Overview Author: Jacob Silverman Date Published: No date Why relevant and summary: This is a comprehensive overview of ADHD, the causes, symptoms, diagnoses, treatments and related disorders. There are also a number of other highly relevant articles that are easily accessible on this site. How this influenced my thinking: There is a lot of information about raising a child with ADHD. I've never had experience with this in regards to my own children, but as a former teacher I have been aware of the 'basics' for many years. There is so much to learn and understand on this topic, especially so that caregivers can be more understanding of individualized needs and be less likely to judge or treat children with ADHD differently. Credibility of source: This is a Discovery Health article. It may not be highly credible in it's own right, but likely pulled it's information from scholarly/medical/research based resources.

Title: Social Intelligence for Toddlers Author: Dr. Laura Markham Date Published: n.d. Why Relevant and Summary: This site is relevant because it gives tips on how to handle toddlers in social interactions, and how to help them interact well with others, and understand to not only understand their own emotions, but the emotions of others as well. How this Influenced my Thinking: This showed me just how important it is to communicate with children about their feelings, and how to help them understand them. It showed me it is important to be calm and discuss what is going on, instead of simply reacting to a situation. Credibility of Source: Degree aquired by author, found on ahaparenting.com, a website for parent to seek helpful and beneficial tips and lessons on raising kids.

Although it's only an outline of the marriage preparation classes, it definitely helps to give the key points of what is needed before getting married such as sacraments and also includes how Religion plays an important role within the marriage. How this influenced my Thinking: This website made me realize what a marriage consist of. For many people like me one usually thinks that married life is the best time of one's life and there is no problems that come with it, but reality is that a lot of work has to be put towards the marriage from both parts in order to have a successful marriage.
