How This Influenced My Thinking: It influenced my thoughts only when speaking about how the mothers thoughts can affect the unborn baby after about 6 months because the mothers hormones cross the blood supply to the baby allowing the baby to be affected by these hormones. Date Published: 2011 Why Relevant and Summary: The journalist and mother expounds upon the different research and studies that give insight into what a fetus experiences and learns in-utero. How This Influenced My Thinking: The last part of this talk discusses the "Hunger Winter" study and how prenatal exposure to famine effected health in adult life, and how 9/11 fetuses of mother who experienced the trauma, had babies with greater susceptibility to PTSD. Date Published: Nov. 2011 Why Relevant and Summary: As a science reporter and mother Paul combined her experience as a pregnant woman with her love of research to write about what a fetus is learning in the womb and what a mother teaches through their shared experience. How This Influenced My Thinking: there was a lot of interesting and pertinent information shared within this video. The shared experiences of a mother are vast. A fetus learns from a mother's voice, food preferences, language and culture to environmental events such as famine, war, fear and stress.

How this influenced my thinking: I am very interested in brain development and learning. I am excited about researching learning and brain development in the womb. Credibility of source: very credible news station and research is cited.

Title: Obese Children Twice as Likely to Die Before 55 Author:COURTNEY HUTCHISON and MICHELLE SCHLIEF Date Published: Feb. 11, 2010 Summary/Why Relevant: This article discusses a recent study done on children whom were obese. The stud found that over weight children were put at more risk for more health complications therefore more likely to die before the age of 55. How it influenced my thinking: This article made me more aware of the risk factors that children face when over weight. Credibility: Very. The authors provide citations for the research study as well as other resources.

Title: Puberty Before Age 10: A New 'Normal'? Author: Elizabeth Weil Date Published: March 30th, 2012 Why Relevant and Summary: It goes through the very basic changes that are seen in puberty, but it's discussing these changes happening in very young girls. In this article, they describe the situation of a little girl in the first grade! How This Influenced My Thinking: Made me aware of what I was consuming and how I may decide to raise my children. It is concerning that there's a possibility of "outside" estrogen causing this early onset of puberty. It's also interesting that we do not note this trend in boys. Credibility of Source: Good - NY Times is very popular. The article contains advice from a variety of doctors and professionals.

Title: Beginnings, Growth and Development Author: Dr. Mark Hill Date Published: 2010 Why Relevant and Summary: Many factors contribute to prenatal development: nutrition, health, environment, drug use, illness. Abnormalities are at greater risk of occurring during critical periods of development. This period is highest during the embryonic stage. By gathering research on what affects prenatal development, we can pinpoint when pregnant women are most at risk and the factors, thereby preventing congenital problems. How This Influenced My Thinking: It's very surprising how a span of 6 weeks can have such a life changing impact on a person before they're even born. It's crucial that women who are pregnant or may become pregnant be informed and get the proper care needed before and during a pregnancy. Angawadi health workers hold monthly meetings to teach on the importance of breastfeeding exclusively for the first 6 months. Before the health workers, mother's gave their infants goat's milk. They threw away the colostrum believing it was dirty. At first the women would not listen. The Angawadi health workers had to gain their trust. The health workers speak to all family members. Almost 2 million children die in India each year before age 5, mostly because of preventable diseases. How This Influenced My Thinking: Sometimes it just takes some educating and informing people on simple steps that can prevent infant and childhood death. title-ADHD author- multiple (its a governmental website) date-ND why relevant/summary-This site is relevant to my topic because it describes ADHD in a way that it easy to understand and break down. It discusses the 3 subtypes of adhd that i didnt even know existed. And it tells you what it used to treat it. how it influenced my thinking- This site influenced my thinking on what adhd is because before, i thought it was a straight forward disorder that people took medication for. But after visiting this site, i realized that there are different types, and it affects people differently. Not everyone is medicated for it, and many people go through life undiagnosed. credibility of source- credible since its a government website

Many people believe Americans don't practice co-sleeping but research shows that many Americans do. How This Influenced My Thinking: This webpage definitely helped me be more open about other cultures. I believed that only Latino families practiced co-sleeping, but it turns out that the majority of the world practices co-sleeping. Credibility of Source: This source seems credible due to the references that were used

It also talked about why co-sleeping is beneficial, what cultures favor it, and even provided a few statistics of the benefits of co-sleeping, and how common it is in the United States. How This Influenced My Thinking: This website didn't influence my thinking much because it spoke very highly of co-sleeping and i am already an advocate of it. Credibility of Source: The site seems credible because the information was backed with references.

How This Influenced My Thinking: I was never aware of cosleeping, at least to the extent with which it can occur. I was educated on the risks of cosleeping, which I never knew were possible. This article goes into detail about how a child can gain more self esteem and acceptance through co sleeping and how the mother can enjoy more sleep at night while also creating a strong bond with her child. How this influenced my thinking: It has enlightened me to the benefits of co-sleeping. As ignorant as this may sound before this class I always thought people co slept with their child cause they we too cheap to buy them a crib and quite frankly I looked down upon them. But now I understand some of the benefits a child gains through co-sleeping. Credibility: A published website

Title: Catholic Marriage Preparations Author: NA Date Published: NA Why Relevant and Summary: This website is very helpful if one is planning to get married in the Catholic Church. Although it's only an outline of the marriage preparation classes, it definitely helps to give the key points of what is needed before getting married such as sacraments and also includes how Religion plays an important role within the marriage. How this influenced my Thinking: This website made me realize what a marriage consist of. For many people like me one usually thinks that married life is the best time of one's life and there is no problems that come with it, but reality is that a lot of work has to be put towards the marriage from both parts in order to have a successful marriage. This article definitely made it clear that a marriage has a lot of components. Credibility: Seems credible since it's from a parish website

Title- why religion matters author-Patrick F. Fagan date-Jan 25th 1996 why relevant and summary- this site provided many supporting examples as to how religion influences a child's upbringing. This give my paper some depth and intertwined different view points. how this influenced me- i wasn't really influenced by this site because it didn't add anything that i hadn't heard before. It might influence a person more if they are not as familiar with religion, specifically Christianity, as i was. credibility-the site seems pretty credible. It is a .org website, and was written by someone with a PHD in his area of study.

For example, Dowling says, "go to bed angry if you want to" because you're better off getting a good night's sleep before tackling the conflict again. Another good tip is to remember that every relationship is unique and it is damaging to compare yours to other relationships. I think the other gives some pretty solid, yet basic marriage advice that couples considering marriage should read. How this influenced my thinking: I have been married and divorced, and am in another relationship that is progressing toward marriage. I hope to avoid the mistakes made in my first marriage, so articles like this one apply directly to my personal life. However, no matter how good the advice is, you've got to make sure you're marrying someone you can absolutely be with through thick and thin.
